Sounds like Raynaud's Syndrome, especially if it is the cold that often causes it. Especially if the hands turn white or blue. You can read about it here:

this first came up last november and it's now february and it has been on and off since then... i only get it in my left hand and you can see a massive difference between both hands... mainly my fingers and thumb are red, swollen, itchy and hot... i'm not sure what it is but my Dr is stupid as he hardly done anything but prescribed me tablets that didn't work, not to mention the side affects were a lot worse than the actual problem! for example a few of the side affects are loss of hearing, liver problems, cardiac arrhythmia, damage to the blood kidneys or central nervous system. like wtf... well this sucks....

I have been getting this off and on that lasts approx 3 days and it switches from fingers to hands to wrists..Very painful. Sometimes mine turns blue and green..They throb but sometimes itches and burns..The skin is so hard it feels like it is going to pop. This all started for me in 2007 when I had my 1st knee replaced and then it slowed down. Had the 2nd one done in 2008 and started getting bump on lip, swelling severe in fingers, hands, wrists...Been to so many drs. and noone has ever seen it., I am back on prendisone for a few days..This will work til something else appears. So frustrating. I hope you find out what it is. I had allergy testing and was told allergic to disperse orange..Again, they never heard of it and printed the info from google which showed cotton, polyesther etc..Very strange Hope this helps. Feel better :)

Ive had these same exact symptoms but not super often. However I do get cold fingers and toes and can turn pale or blue. I was diagnosed with Raynauds phenomenon secondary to hyperparathyroidism.

So heres how it works. There is Raynauds phenomenon (caused by another disease) and raynauds disease (idiopathic-meaning they cant pinpoint a cause)

Once in medical school I learned more about the disease and connected the dots and then verified with my physician.

Basically, there is a hypervasomotor response- the muscles around the vessels carry blood constrict more then they should. This causes decreased blood flow. You get the cold pale or bluish color, numb feeling usually in extremities like the fingers and toes. THEN, once dilation (widening of the vessel) has been restored (either from warming them up or a physiological response of the body recognizing the decreased flow and releasing histamine to dilate the vessels-which is why antihistamines help) the vessels become engorged with blood and you get the redness, swelling and itching.

This can be caused by triggers such as cold and stress, so it is recommended to avoid these triggers. Sometimes however you are unable to recognize these triggers and its horrible. Ive been woken up in the middle of the night just going crazy!

I strongly encourage to google raynauds, learn about it, and speak to you health care provider about exploring the underlying causes; which can be a lot of different diseases. Just a name a few hypothyroidism, lupus, renal impairment ect that if caught and treated can help be curative and preventative of future health complications.

Hope this helped:)

Dealing with this too. Thinking the same thing. Tests are negative so far for me. Only been dealing with for a month. Hands, joints, feet. Swollen, itchy, painful. Going a little crazy. Prednosine seems to work great. I'm fine when on and not when off. Seeing both Dr. and allergist. Now they want me to see a Rhemotologist. Newest symptom is reddish circle rashes appearing and going away, so far on just my hands. They are under the skin, not raised. Kinda would think ring worm but its not. So frustrating not knowing why this came on so suddenly. Yes, I do have stress.

I have been having red, itchy, hot palms for over a month now. The only that helps is benadryl, but unfortunately, it puts me to sleep. And mine is also triggered sometimes by pressure - shoes, trying to open a jar and carrying something in my hands. My ENT said to try plain Allegra.

So do I extreamly hot and very itchy so much so it wakes me up during the night, this is in the cold weather as well as the summer. I also get very itchy ,hot legs and backs of arms. My only solution is to put on a very cold face washer to the area until it cools and usually it will go away but the hands are the worst. On my legs I use Celestone 0.01% cream this will help nothing else does and Drs. don't have a clue they just let you suffer.

I have the same issue but it only happens on my right hand. Tonight I woke up to feed my 4 month old and it just appeared. When it's happened before I would have to wash my hand 4 or 5 times and then it would go away. With two small children I'm always cleaning something.

I've had the same mostly in my hands itchy, red hot, tight feeling then a balloon hand. I have a reaction to dust on my hands, but even with gloves on still does the same must have very sensitive skin! Lol. Even walking home today I got wet feet and they both started itching, gone red swollen and just 1 of my hands. I'm thinking maybe cold weather and sensitive skin. Better book an appointment at docs see what they say.
