The exact same thing often happens to me when I'm shopping! Dust can trigger it too when I'm cleaning something dusty. But no one that I know has ever heard about it. It feels good to know that I'm not the only one! Thanks for sharing your experiences!

I've had this problem for a few years.  It begins with intense, extreme itching.  AFter a while it turns red, then swells and heats up.  It happens mainly on the digits (fingers and toes).  My family Dr. once told me it was RA (then reversed that), also said it was an allergic reaction.  It simply seems to come on at any random given time.

My swelling and itching hands have been going on for months. I have tried all kinds of creams, lotions, coconut oils, wearing cotton gloves. My skin actual splits and so I have to deal with that pain as well. Dermatologist gave me some ointment but it doesn't help at all. I use ground oatmeal soak for the itching, helps just a little bit, but that doesn't help the swelling at all. Most of the time the itching is so bad, I take a fork to scratch it. Benadryl helps some but not enough !!!!!!!

Hi all for the past six years I have flare ups where my hands get itchy feels like from the inside out on both hands and feet, they get extremely hot and go red and are very painful. Doctors cannot diagnose have tried steroids and piriton, I have been allergy tested and they even said stress two days ago I found this name erythromelalgia. This fits doctors agree and have just done bloods to start to try and confirm if I have primary or secondary. Please look up the name and hope it helps. When mine flares it last for a week or two not nice good luck e veryone

The same thing happened to me. I was put on the Z-pack in May for a sinus infection, a few days after I finished the antibiotics, my lip and eyes swelled up and ever since then up to now I've been experiencing hives, facial swelling and the itchy, swollen, red hands. Now I'm wondering if it's even worth going to an allergist? Have you figured anything else out since your last post?

Yup I get the swollen hard to bend fingers with heat & itchiness, doc knows nothing either but a lady told me it was a heat rash reaction. I do pedis everyday & hot stones is part of the job, she didn't know that but seems to be it.I get numerous lil bumps too though & a clear liquid comes out, gross! Dries my hands like crazy once its calming down.I just hold ice to help but wish there was something!

I'm a Dr and I saw a patient like that; I think it's erythromelalgia. It could be due to too many red blood cells or platelets. Also it is a symptom of lupus and other connective tissue diseases. It responds to aspirin.

I am on BC and thought maybe it was blood pressure....but my doctor suggested Raynaud's Phenomenon. It's like being allergic to the cold. And can stem from having RA or Lupus etc. So it's pretty possible for some of you it sounds like..
