Wow, I'm so glad that I'm not alone on this. I had the IUD inserted in 2008, had numerous BV infections and hated every part of it...the smell, the discharge, the uncomfortableness in my own skin. Ugh. I went to my gyno and complained about the problems that I was having, mind you I've NEVER had any issues down there before, ever. So my nurse at the gyno office tries to talk me into keeping the Mirena in, finally she let my husband and I discuss this together to make a decision right then and there to take it out, so she did. She pulled the Mirena out and she actually looked at the Mirena and she saw (sorry might be gross) a piece of discharge that had attached itself to the IUD and thats what was causing me BV's so many times. I had the IUD removed Dec. 28, 2010 and I thought my nightmare was over, nope. After almost 3 years of it being removed I still get BV's and had my first ever yeast infection like 2 months ago. I wish I never got the Mirena IUD, it has totally screwed up my system...I don't feel the same anymore about my body like I used to. Does anyone have any natural tips to get their system back on track?
I have had the mirena for about two years and I have battled with bv.
I had Mirena for 5 years. Only complication was loss of a fallopian tube because of a giant cyst in it. I was told it had NOTHING to do with Mirena. (No big deal, right? I have a whole other fallopian tube!) Just had my second placed in Oct. At my follow-up visit I asked them to check for UTI because I thought I had UTI symptoms. Negative. I got a call a week later - I tested positive for yeast. It has to be uteral, because I didn't feel lower vaginal symptoms. I took the Diflucan and feel worse now. Interesting comments on this string. I will have to keep an eye on it. Just seems strange that I had one placed in '08 and only yeast problems I ever had were after IV antibiotics. I could set a timer for that. It would be strange if the second placement caused a plethora of new issues
Read this article first before making the final decision to have it removed. Now that I have reached my 5 year mark and I have an OB/GYN appointment in three days, I am considering having it reinserted after reading this......
I have had Mirena for 3 years. I have not had sex for 1 year, 3 months. This odor just started about a month ago. I thought it was from pool chemicals at aquatherapy. I have been noticing a smell that reminds me of a hair perm. It is awful. I am a clean person too. I shower every day. I am calling my OBGYN this week because I don't know what to do. I am glad someone else understands this.
same issues, get treatment and then it comes right back. I have tried 3 different oral antibiotics and creams and still nothing. getting removed today, hopefully I see some improvement
Im so sick and tired of this mirena!! Ive had mine in for 12 months and have had constant irrittion and yeast infections. I had it in for heavy bleeding and a fibroid. Anyway bleeding on/off since insertion, finally bled for 7 weeks and noticed awful smell, yes BV. I asked my gp to remove but the pain was too bad, i had it in under GA asmy cervix never opened. So have to wait 2 week to see gynae about getting it removed and probly have an albation done instead. I feel so ill right now i wish it would come out asap!!!
I had mine put in July 2013 and I have had the same as you, bv, constantly on a monthly basis! I have asked my GYN to remove it but they keep telling me its not the Mirena its my body getting use to it. Its very irritating and embarrassing. They put me on the pill to remove the infection and to use the gel for two months twice a week to see what my body does. I have already done this process three months ago and it doesnt work. Even after taking two pills twice a day the infection came back while STILL on the pill to fight the infection. SMH.If this doesnt work I am going to have it removed and try the Implanon.
I just had my iud put in a few days ago, and I'm already noticing symptoms of BV. I've had a long battle with bv and have seen many doctors, natropaths and have done some self research. Here is what to do. First take a shower with hot water and use unsented soap with all natural ingrediants, no don't use dove. Next blow dry off and make sure you are very dry. The new treatment for bv is 250mg vitamin c in a gel cap. Do not use tablets as they are to harsh. Insert the vita c gel cap and leave in overnight. This may cause staining on your underwear so you may want to use a pad. If the gel caps do not disolve well break them open inside of you or order some quick desolving tabs of Amazon. Continue the treatment for 2 weeks or longer if you like. Infact you can use this treatment whenever you want!!!! It is 100 percent safe. In the morning wash out the vitamin c and insert a probiotic tablet to keep you protected durring the day. I use fem Dophilus, it is the best! Also take 30 billion probiotics daily (oral). You may not ever be bv free, but with these tools you can control it in a SAFE way. No more antibiotics, no more doctors and I hope you all get some relief.
