I have had the mirena for 6 years and had countless BV diagnosis... To the point where my obgyn has told me to put water/hydrogen peroxide inside! Why haven't they connected the iud to the chronic bv!?! I've read that hormone imbalance can cause bv.... So the hormone in the mirena can definitely be the cause!

I had My Mirena out two days ago. I have had yeast, BV, yeast again and then pain that felt like a UTI with out any bacteria in my urine. Its been about 12 weeks now since this all started, I had the IUD in 16 weeks ago.

After many treatments with anti-fungal's of all sorts and 1 heavy does of antibiotics I was still very unwell and in pain. (Itching, burning, pain) Yet all tests were negative for yeast and bacteria over growth.

Doctor said time to pull it out, or I could be on Anti Fungals for the next 12 months. I had it removed.

Itching and burning are almost gone (36 hours later), slight throbbing still from time to time.

I'm hoping that when the inflammation goes away I can get back to my life.

Birth control is bad, I'm beginning to think. Some people are fine their whole lives on BC, others if only ruins their lives.

Try a probiotic. Also, douche with apple cider vinegar after sex and anytime you have an odor. The probiotic will balance you out but you need to keep it rolling.
Something else that kills the bacteria and smell is coconut oil...
I've not done a single antibiotic and I have gotten it under control after months of unbalance and a doctor that was useless.
No odor anymore... Unless its around my cycle and 1 douche and it's gone.

I don't have odor just pain.

I to have had this same issue. I've been to the doctor on several occasions for treatment of bv. I never had an issue until I had the Mirena put in following the birth of my daughter. I will be scheduling an appointment to have it removed. I stopped having a desire to have sex because it seemed that every time I had sex it was worse. It is comforting to know that it is not me but this Mirena. My OBGYN has told me on several occasions that it was not the Mirena. I will be scheduling an appointment to have it removed and going on a new form of BC. Thanks for your post. It helped me a lot.

Yep! Same here! I started having the discharge & foul odor in March. From November 2015 until February of this year, I use to get real bad stomach cramps. It will be a year in August since I had the Mirena placed.

I have had my Mirena IUD out for a year now but I regret ever getting it in the first place! I had nothing but problems when it was in and still now that it's out. I had the cramps you mentioned, constant pelvic pressure/pain (like I was gonna start my period any moment), thought I had a bladder infection, went to see my doctor. Urine test did not show infection. I told her I would just like the thing out of me. The only positive from the IUD was I had no periods for a year. I've had it out for a year but have had yeast infections and still on and off pelvic discomfort. I hate that doctors suggest Mirena and say it usually causes NO problems, YA RIGHT.

I am still in pain now 4 months later. I think I still have yeast and I am pretty sure I have developed IC...look it up. It's awful. Taking the Mirena out did help a lot right away but my body is still healing and possible permanently damaged.

Listen to yourself, if it feels wrong after even a week get it out! I should have listened to myself. Now I can't have sex or eat any type of tasty food or drink. It all started with that darn Mirena.

I have had the exact same problem. I got my mirena inserted 7 months ago & have had numerous episodes of itching, burning & fishy foul odor during & after sex. It is very embarrassing. My fiancé has been wanting me to have it taken out since I got it, but I believe that I have endometriosis & it's been helping tremendously with my pain. My doctor just told me to treat myself with a 7 day monistat. I've been treating myself every other month & I'm getting sick of it! I'm torn.

I have had the mirena fir 2.5 years and suffered from infections quite often for the first year it was every month with bv!!! I have now decided to take it off as my general gp advised me that this could be due to my body not accepting mirena ... my gynea and also other gyneas said that the infections are not caused by mirena but im not sure who to believe as my infections started when i had it inserted ... I have finally decided to go with mu general gps opinion and had it removed so we will see how this goes ... I have had my mirena as a treatment i hope i wont have to do it :(

I am going through this exactly as you are describing it and I was trying so hard to believe my gynecologist that it has nothing to do with the mirena because I really didn't want to go back to the pill :( looks like I have no choice, I can't continue like this

I've had the same problem, docs have always said it's not to do with the mirena, just some women are more prone to it. Has Anyone had the mirena removed and noticed an improvement with the bv?
