What was the result of the vitamin D and juices??

Stats: 43, vegan diet for 1.7yrs, sedentary desk job, not overweight, semi-active, no alcohol, no cigs, occasional soda, 1 coffee/day.

I just started getting this pain in the morning about a month ago. Sleeping on my back with a pillow propping my legs relieves it to a degree, but I usually have to get up soon after.

I think there is something most people are overlooking here: for most people the pain goes away after getting out of bed and relieving one's self. But is it relief from urinating or defecating? Since I have become vegan, the increased fiber in my diet has me eliminating far larger quantities then previously. Not to be crass, but I'm talking LOGS. But the morning is the only time I have to go #2, though I should probably be eliminating several times a day.

My theory is, with the increase in solids backing up in my large intestines as the night goes on, which in turn blocks gas from escaping normally (some people say passing gas helps temporarily as it does me), by the time morning arrives it starts to put pressure on my kidneys. As soon as I get up, have my coffee, a little breakfast and move around a little bit, I have to relieve myself - and presto - the pain magically disappears.

So, along with some of the suggestions here (Vit-D, etc.), I'm going to try some natural laxatives to try and get my colon emptied more often. I might also get a colonic to really flush it.

Thanks and just wanted to share my experience. Good luck!

Thanks! Keep us posted. I eat pretty much everything. The moving around is what stops the discomfort for me. If I do get up and urinate, I'm not sure if it's the moving around or the urinating That helps the discomfort go away. If I do urinate though, I feel better when I lay down, than if I didn't. I've also recently removed silacone based lube from intercourse, in case it could be absorbing dermally and not filtering out properly. Good luck!!

I have the same issues with my right kidney.  I only drink water, but always have my morning cup of coffee.  Always wake up with kidney pain.  this happened a few years ago as well any my naturopath had an ultrasound done and found a small cyst.  We treated it naturally with topical minerals to draw ot the cyst, instead of risking surgery.  It went away, but I fear it's back.  I'm no longer in the same state where I was under the care of my naturopath.  I recommend getting an ultrasound if u are having kidney pain.  I'm going to make an appointment with my doc on Monday.

Hi there, I also have this problem. I wake after about 5 hours sleep in strong pain left side which I think is kidney related. Although as you mentioned if I do not eat at night I have much less pain. My fluid intake does not seem to impact the pain, as long as it is not alcohol. I stop eating by 4pm and my pain is only 20% of what it would be if I ate later. This had made me question if it is kidney pain or maybe pancreas? You are the first person who has also found this beneficial.

Yes I agree, it is the postural change not the urinating that seems to help me. I can wake after say 3 hours of sleep and need to urinate and I have no pain at that stage. I then wake after say 5 hours sleep in strong pain that demands I sit or stand up. Once I am upright I get some relief and the pain dissipates relatively quickly. Sometimes leaving a dull ache for a few hours. I have significantly less pain if I do not eat at night. The earlier I stop eating the less pain I have. I wonder what it is about lying down that causes it to happen and why on earth not eating at night makes such a difference. I have had this problem for more than 12 months and it is impossible for me to get back to sleep if woken I need to be upright for a few hours before I can lie down without too much pain. Agghh

All- I have the same exact symptoms that have started up within the past year. The pain exists JN the morning when I wake up and subsides within an hour after standing and moving around. I went to doc and learned info have kidney disedisease - accompanied by high blood pressure and that my enlarged kidneys were causing the pain.

I too have had this problem for years, get woken up with pain in my left side every few nights after 6/7 hours of sleep. Once I'm up, drink a glass of water and go to the toilet it seems to subside. It's just frustrating as I've been tested and I'm not dehydrated, have had my bladder checked and all good - drs don't care it really hurts! When the body is in pain something isnt right?! What's going on inside us and how can we stop this?

I am going through the same thing & have no idea what is going on

Kidney stones, as long as they are still in the kidneys are not a problem. They move around and have pointy edges. Make sure u r well hydrated and before going to sleep. This will diminish the pain.

I have had this same problem for years, it seems. I would roll on my side and that would help a little. After urinating it would seem to relieve the pain but really getting up and moving around is the only thing and even then only after a little time. I started researching this and have found very little information, only other people like yourselves wondering what the problem is. Then i thought to myself, "What if its not my kidneys?" The adrenal glands basically sit on your kidneys... Adrenal insufficiency is something I have been studying and following common sense advice only from people not trying to sell me something. Look it up... "They" say adding some good salts, vitamin C as well B5 and b6. Avoid stress, sugar and caffeine. Give the body what it needs to heal. The adrenals regulate cortisol, the stress hormone as well as other hormonal functions etc... After 20 days without refined sugars, caffeine, sea salt on popcorn couple times a week and no alcohol, I have woke up for the last 5 days with no pain! I am just giving my body what it needs to heal evidently and for me, I think there is hope.
