(doctors, that is) read and study the research to better understand what and how the medication is suppose to work. If you really want to know about a drug and it's side effects talk to a pharmacist. It is my hope that you will see that we really are on the same side, we are just looking at it from different views.

tessr71, I wrote a reply to your second to last post 2 hours ago. It was eloquent, if I do say myself and somehow it didn't post. I will try to capture again what I said.

First, no apology necessary. I am frustrated sometimes by my inability to precisely convey my thoughts. My daughter tells me I am too strong in my conversations. You are so correct about what I said " Doctors for the most part are the ones who have been formally educated and therefore understand thoroughly the effects and side effects"... I left out the word "should" after "therefore". You are absolutely correct. I was married to a physician and know full well they are myopic at best and are trained to look for horses instead of zebras. They don't usually have a chemist background or PhDs. They are not taught about prevention so much. A lot of them believe vitamins are worthless. There are many types of doctors. There are some awesome doctors in every field but I do know that many get into the "business" of medicine because of the prestige and money. Certain specialties obviously are more lucrative than others. If everyone were moral and a saint we could all rest assured that there wasn't ulterior motives but I am afraid in many cases the latter is true. With my own severe medical condition many doctors just wanted to write me a prescription or several prescriptions to mask the symptoms. I had one doctor not even look me in the eye and take out his prescription pad. I am so angry by the current medical system I just want to bust at the seams. I am sorry for your condition. After my son-in-law's suicide I learned a lot about SSRI's. You are also correct about pharmacists but even they are often lacking in knowledge about these drugs. I known for a fact Big Pharma financially back medical schools. There is a lot of propaganda starting with the med students' first day with gifts of stethoscopes and supplies. You may know about Dr. Breggin. You can Google him. He has a website. He is a Harvard-trained psychiatrist and believes SSRIs actually cause much of the mania and psychosis patients experience. He is a big advocate of Empathic Therapy. I have struggled to find a cure for my disease for over 25 years so I am not unsympathic to your struggles and pray you will find relief, if you haven't already. It is my opinion after much study that most SSRIs are very dangerous. With my family member the doctor nor the pharmacist warned the family about signs to look for. I now know what a black box warning is. It was the ethical and legal obligation for the doctor to inform us of what to look for. We knew something was wrong but we had no idea how much in trouble he was. Because we weren't informed we allowed him to live alone. He would be alive today if we had known. As far as a patient studying about what the doctors give them, again you are correct but in our case he trusted his doctor to know what he was doing. Now, I question everything. I said in the reply that vanished that you and I are probably more similar and on the same page than not . When I read your last reply I had to laugh, we are on the same side. I don't think links are allowed but if you want to go to wwwdotprescriptiondrugsarekillingusdotblogspotdotcom I have put a lot of info on my blog. I wish you all the best.

I started writing a book about my experiences with Cymbalta.  I started getting uncontrollable alcohol cravings and drank like a drunken sailor.  Lost jobs from the drinking and almost lost my husband too.  It crept up on me so I didn't put 2 and 2 together until it was too late.  Losing the jobs caused me to lose my health insurance so I couldn't afford the Cymbalta anymore and forced me to quit cold turkey and started me on a whole new path in life.  This took awhile too because Eli Lily was more than happy to provide free samples.  Brain zaps no,  I call them brain knife stabs, because it felt like someone came up behind me and stabbed me in the head with an extra sharp knife down to my spine.  My whole body jolted from the pain.  There was no warning, just an unbelievably unbearable sharp stabbing pain  This happened while I was on it too if I was half an hour short or past taking the next dose.  I took motion-sickness meds and stayed in bed for the 2 weeks I was withdrawing with shivers, severe insomnia etc...

Cymbalta just about killed me.  I didn't take it because I was depressed.  My doctor gave it to me for fibromyalgia.  It ruined my colon, gave me trouble with my heart, made my muscles and tendons as hard as rock and made my fibromyalgia worse than it has ever been.  My pastor says that it is ok to stand up for your self and sue when you have been hurt by this drug.  We trusted our doctors that tell us that we won't have those side effects.  As for going off, you have to go off of it plain and simple.  You will be sick, your ears will ring, you might be dizzy, but it gets better.  NO ONE SHOULD TAKE THIS DRUG!!!

I feel for those who experience negative side effects I myself going through several different drugs to find what worked took a huge toll on me both physically and mentally however I have been on cymbalta for over a year now with little to no side effects at all. I had even been off it for a month and a half due to my Dr. Not following thru on my script and then going on a vacation. I had no real withdrawal in this time frame. I guess what I am trying to get at is with any medication you take there is a chance that it may or may not work for you. It took me until the age of 35 to find and begin using cymbalta and for the first time in 20 years I began to feel right. I could bad mouth any number of drugs and could maybe even press for legal action but to me it's more important to accept that those meds that did not fit are just that, not the right kind for me. One case in point, I spent over 2 decades battling insomnia due to use of Prozac but low and behold since starting cymbalta I sleep increasingly better than I had in years. Drug companies will always try to find a way to capatilize but some of these drugs do work and work well. I have also looked at and put to use some of the dietary minerals and vitamins that were recommended to evade the side effects of cymbalta and maybe this is why I have had little to none. Finding the right chemical balance is a very difficult journey and I wish you all well. As for this scrip in dealing with pain, maybe that needs to be revisited and personally researched by individuals to wether its worth the potential risks. Again, best of luck to all.

There are many issues other than just asking God for health. If the drug company knew they were giving a drug that could cause side effects, they need to be sued. That is the only way a person and FDA can win against having that drug on the market. It would help others in the future. Now yes suing can be for all the wrong reasons. but others (even though it has not happened to you being egocentric based on your ego) will not help those making a decision on teaching the manufacturer of this harmful drugs. As a matter of fact the Cymbalta commercials are stating the increased benefits of Cymbalta and the FDA issued a warning against such claims, but they will do it because no one is stepping forward to say their experiences and they have their legal team working for them. It is not about the money as much as it is the principle. Many may have many claims to why they want to sue Eli-Lily, and all we can hope for in the end a difference was made. As unfortunate as it is to not be able to control others for what we want a better utopian society or against being dishonest, we need to honor those who are not dishonest and who need to make a voice so that a medication is not distributed to others who might go through the same issue.

I love God immensely, but I have a problem with those who use God as a means of judgement here on earth. Ultimately what a person decides to do is up to them and God. We are all equal. We help people in need, but judging them is not a human  duty. Our egos had lead many people to judge. I am going through stuff of what this medication has done to me, and I want my voice heard. If it helps others not using this drug and getting the side effects that is what matters to me. Working in a doctor's office many drug reps were generous, and I know that has influenced some doctors. Some doctors just increased Cymbalta thinking it would help because of all the claims (raving about the good things that can be done with this drug). It causes serious damage to others. The question of why it would not work for you was not in my doctors mind, and for that I payed the price with my health in addition to not giving me blood tests to check the side effects.

If I know about lawsuits I will let people know. Christina

I guess the best way to see who can help is talk to someone from the FDA.gov or go through your state attorney office. I say to look there because there is alot of ambulance chasers/dishonest lawyers. Going through your state or FDA may be an easier way in order to find an honest lawyer.

Thanks for the information. I am hoping that some lawyers would do it for personal integrity, but I also do not want to be naive either. I will check out the sites you have offered, and I am sorry for your loss.

Thank You for reply

Chrissiee, I don't claim to have all of the answers and if you find an attorney more power to you. The best attorney to have the most success in winning cases against the pharmaceutical companies was Andrew Vickery out of Houston. I spoke with him myself regarding my family member. He told me that the pharmaceutical companies came up with a black box warning label and it virtually relieves them of any legal liability. It put the responsibility back on the patient and mainly the doctor. Sad fact is most doctors do not do what they are supposed to do with black box warning labeled drugs (most anti-depressants - psychotripics) and that is to sufficiently warn the family members of the patient to look for unusual side effects or reactions to these very dangerous drugs. The pharmaceutical companies have made it virtually impossible for them to be successfully sued. So therefore you will not find any attorneys willing to take on the pharmaceutical companies. Before the black box warning label was in place it took a lot of money to go against the billion dollar pharma companies so even before the black box warning labels came into being it was still nearly impossible to win. Andrew Vickery has since slowed down his case load and was on the verge of retirement the last we spoke. I am sure he is retired by now. The best way I know to beat the pharmaceutical companies is to educate people on a grass roots level. Like cigarettes once the public knew the tobacco companies were infusing the cigarettes with chemicals to make the addiction nearly impossible to break, that is when the public woke up and now many people don't smoke because of this knowledge. Nowadays a lot of doctors don't even realize the fact that all pharmaceuticals are toxic and all psychtropics are addictive. Good luck in your search. Post any lawyers you have found to take on such a lawsuit because I will be second in line to sue the pharmaceutical companies. Nothing can bring back my family member but the public needs to know. Unfortunately, one of the ways to educate people is to have won a large settlement. Like I said, I don't believe that remedy is feasible but one can always hope. Good luck!

This is from my personal experience and my best friends. She is on a number of medications for diabetes, migraines, depression and more. After suffering a stroke last year at the age of 35 she was assigned a Pharm D. I'm sure that you can guess that these are Dr.s and phycisians that's deal specifically with the use of multiple medications and their effects. While I hope that my general practitioner knows something about what she is feeding me I don't count on it. She had put me on serequel and within 2 weeks I felt like I was homicidal. I immediately quit taking it. Upon talking to her of my behavior she suggested that I continue taking it so she could see the effects, ummm no, that never happpened. I guess what I'm trying to get at is definitely do not think that your general practitioner, neurologist, psych...whatever the case may be know these drugs or know you. Please ask for your case to be referred to a pharm d. At least at this point you know that someone who is knowledgeable of what your putting into your body is working with yourself and your doctor. I wish everyone here the best ans I hope that each of you may find some relief, peace, justice.

I agree, I was put on it for pain and depression and I had to go off it because of the side effects, I have had vertigo, nausea, vomiting been to my MD, neurologist, ENT had MRIs, CT and they can't find anything and refuse to say it's r/t the Cymbalta but that was the only thing new in my life. They are now calling in migraine related which I don't have headaches and never had migraines..and again they have an answer for that.."sometimes migraines are pain free" BULL...and for srives1 I'm not looking to sue anyone and I do pray..but sometimes people need help and apperently this medication wasn't it...

I have been reading everyones posts since my first post a few days ago and I'm really scared! I don't want to live with these side effects. I can't even imagine day to day feeling this pressure in my head, ringing in my ears, dizziness, light sensitivity and just waiting for those debilitating severe vertigo and vomiting episodes that put me down for damn near a week and in the ER..I read a post where someone experienced seizures months after stopping this medication..WOW. I stopped taking it in October and my last attack was January 4th that's when I ended up in the ER but I had the opposite effect on my B/P it was 100/51, with HR 45, chest discomfort and a pain in my right shoulder blade area I thought was just a fluck, maybe a pulled muscle but I still have it and now sometimes its across my back...Everyday I'm dizzy and little movements remind to to move slow...I'm afraid to drive, afraid to be alone waitng for the next crazy ass side effect to happen, I'm a pretty independant person, no real major health problems. Now I feel like everyday I'm calling my dr telling her something new...., I just don't know what to do anymore? The doctors just will not entertain the idea it may be the cymbalta and truthfully I didn't really start putting it together until I did my own research of changes in my life at the time this all started...and now NOONE can change my mind the Cymbalta did this to me..I hope and pray these side effects go away but this medication needs stonger warnings, doctors need better education or it just plan needs to be removed from the market before more people are hurt and god forbid dead....GOOD LUCK to all who are going thru hell like me!!
