It will be 2 years in February, 2007 that i quit smoking. I have gone through every emotion possible and have even thought that I may have had a small nervous break down.

I am a currently not working and am quite comfortable at staying home for now, to avoid any conflict or stress with anyone. I have a bubbly personality and most everyone loves being around me because I have a positive attitude. I didn't have the lump in the throat symptom but since I quit I have become very lazy and feel tired all the time. I used to be somewhat hyper and had all my house work done in a couple of hours everyday but I just can't seem to get out of this rut. I am bothered by the mess but in another way, I dont care. Before I quit I used to go to the Gym almost everyday and had lost 40 pounds and looked good. Now I am 45 pounds overweight and I cannot seem to get that positive energy back to start going to the Gym again. What is wrong with me and has anyone had these symptoms?? If so, please send me an email telling me what I can do.

Also, after I quit I ended up with Acid Reflux, and sinus problems (which I thought would be gone by now).
My Doctor did tests but everything seems fine.

Can anyone give me some answers?
It's been around two weeks since I stopped smoking, and I have the canker sores and sore throat some have described here, along with a persistent cough and difficulties swallowing. The thing is, I've been smoking (tobacco with marijuana) for only two months or so.

Is that normal, to have those symptoms after so little smoking time? I didn't experience any other withdrawal symptoms, as irritability or depression. Actually I didn't "stop" per se, it's just that I'm on a long trip and I can't smoke here, not that I need it. Again, does someone knows if that is normal? Thank you so much.
I quit smoking cigs 2 weeks ago because of throat pain...it literally hurt to talk. I had only been smoking for one year...about 12 a day...20-25 if I'm drinking which was about 3 nights a week. Well since quitting it has become easier to talk, but I have a new problem, and it's kind of strange. I'd say right now my voice is at 90% or so of what it should be, but when I smoke pot and am high my voice ability drops to around 50%. As the high fades away my voice returns. I just don't understand it. Is it because weed smoke is thick, or something? Basically my throat hurt a lot when I smoked cigs and I found it hard to talk, but since quitting it has gotten much better, but even now when I smoke pot it temporarily feels like it did when it was the worst and I was smoking cigs...but goes back to normal when I'm not high!

Also on a side note, my throat hurts when I sneeze or try to clear it. I'm assuming this is because my vocal cords are damaged and tender, and slowly healing?
EDIT: sorry..it double posted my post for some reason.
I live in New York and they have this smoker hotline thing, you call in, they ask you some questions and if you 'qualify' you get sent free nicotine patches. I hestitated using them because I enjoyed smoking cigarettes a lot. But then I got really sick and decided what better time than now. Craving wise, been pretty damn good. Not much of a craving, I didn't really think the patches would help but they definetly break that physical need. Withdrawl wise, I have been a bit constipated, which appears is normal and now this new thing....it feels like I have bronchitis, when I breathe in deep you can hear a rattle in my throat. It doesn't hurt though and I've been coughing up this greenish mucus....it's disgusting.
What's amazing though is that it's only been five days and my body is trying to repair itself. This is an exerpt I found though....

"One of the most unpleasant withdrawal symptoms (but definitely the most positive) is when your lungs start to eject all the tar you’ve consumed. This will mean coughing up green and sometimes black mucus for a period of days or weeks. It’s only when you see what your lungs were clogged up that you’ll really start to understand just how much damage smoking was doing to you"

I feel so much cleaner, my mouth feels cleaner, my hair, my skin....I bought a new car and REFUSE to smoke again in it or have anyone else smoke in it. I really think I can handle it this time and stick with it. Good luck to all of you and I hope we can all get through this!
I quit seven week ago. I had been smoking for 22 years and had only tried twice before for about a week. At three week I got sick. Mind you I had only been sick once in the past ten years. This I know because I have been married that long and only one day in that ten years did I need to stay in bed. Now at week seven I'm sick again. I feel like I have asmatic. Runny nose chest hurts. I hope this goes away. I do agree that there needs to be a full web site explaning not just the good of quitting but the reactions that might happen and what to do to ease the discomfort that from what I've read is more common then I thought. o.O !
I quit smoking on 1/21/06 after smoking almost 15 years. I increased my vitamins slightly, drank extra water and added a colon cleanse (Colonix) to my repertoire.
    1000 IU Nat E
    3000-5000 mg Vit C
    50 B Complex
    500 mg Golden Seal Root
    600-1000 mg Kyolic Garlic
    GNC Mega Man Multi-Vitamin

This winter everyone around me is sick - I haven't the slightest cold. I attribute this success to quiting smoking, Vit C and Colonix.

I still have that nasty c**p in the back of my throat (which is what brought me here) after one year - but I still think the benefits outweigh the negatives.

*** If anyone is reading this and needs help with quitting - I think I may have some helpful tips.
#1 - make a decision to quit
#2 - while you are still smoking, determine what activities cause to you to smoke the most and work on breaking those habits prior to completely quitting (ex.#1 - if you tend to smoke while driving out of habit - start the quitting process by not smoking in the car first. ex.#2 - If you smoke while on the computer or in the house, start the quitting process by making yourself go outside)
I quit smoking 2 weeks ago and have been having problems with my neck and jaw hurting. I didn't put 2 and 2 together until I read all the comments here. Last night the pain was throbbing and had trouble sleeping. I haven't gone through the bad coughing spell though. I'm on a patch to help me quit. I smoked over a pack a day for 4 years. It feels like there is something in my throat. My throat isn't like a soar throat though. It doesn't hurt to swallow. It hurts to chew. It doesn't hurt to turn my head. It actually feels like it's bruised inside my neck. It's only on the right side though. The pain is worse sometimes then seems to get better only to hurt bad again. The pain can go all the way up to my ear. When will this go away?
I just wanted to add that since I've quit smoking (and thinking back, almost every time I've tried to quit) I've had the same symptoms -intensely sore throat, stuffy head, general feeling of having a cold that you can't kick- I'm not sure how long it lasts for, but I have quit for four months now without much help. Sure, my lungs feel better, but these withdrawl/healing symptoms are terrible.
I've never been a heavy smoker, only two or three at night. well after doing this for three or four years, I started developing pain in my chest - in the center by where my heart is and a little to the left in my lung. I also developed a sudden case of ED (Erectile Dysfunction). I completely stopped now, about a month ago and I've still got the chest pain and ED. Has anyone experienced symptoms like these and how long will I have to wait this out??? I hope to God this isn't permanent. Thank you.
I came out to this forum to confirm that my husbands flem and sore throat issues are related to his quiting smoking. He is on day 5. I see that many others experience similar problems. I also googled quit smoking free Colorado because I recall that Colorado gives out free nicotine patches if you are a Colorado resident and you follow there quit program. Details here http://www.smokefreecolorado.org/data/pdf/NRTQuitlineBrochure_LITE.pdf

From the smokefreecolorado.org site above, I found that shortness of coughing, sinus congestion, fatigue and shortness of breath decrease at 1-9 months. This info is in the pdf file listed above.

    Good luck everyone of you!
I quit smoking in October '06, and have been on and off again with the butts. More off than on though. I smoked a pack of 25's every two days and felt it was time to quit. I enjoy the $11.00 I save every time I don't buy a pack, but I have not realized any of the health benefits I was promised. In fact like many of you I have taken a turn for the worst. 2 head colds in 2 months (I never get sick), aching joints, black phlem. And the most disturbing part is a localized pain on the side of my wind pipe when I swallow. And with the all the saliva being produced since I quit, I swallow a lot. They say after 15 years of not smoking I'll have the lungs of a non-smoker though.
ive been getting that too. i was even worried about it for awhile since it wasnt really on teh list of "withdrawal symptoms". everyone i talk to say its obviosuly because your muslces in your neck are overworking to clear things out , plus your blood flow no longer has all the smoking toxins in them. I had expected changes , but nothing like this. Im glad to know I'm not the only one experiencing the neck problems , throat problems , and everything else thats been going on. Knowing that this is all (generally) normal actually makes me less worried , in turn making me lees anxious/nervous , which , incidentally , calms down my muslces lol. Hang in there ppl.
i have quit smoking after ten years. im only 29 and have quit for 3.5 weeks. I have had all the same symptoms, difficulty swallowing, localized numbness in the throat, chofing, postnasal drip, constant mucus in throat etc. but the strangest thing is that i have actually had my throat scoped by a ENT (ear nose throat)specialist because you guessed it i feared CANCER and he has claimed all these symptoms to Laryngopharyngeal Reflux (LPR) at first i thought the doc was crazy ive never had heart burn but ive done some research and alot of the symptoms are there. so maybe this could be a side effect of quitting smoking (im no doctor but i am well educated) here is a decent link to a site that describes LPR

    http://heartburn.about.com/od/gastrictractdisorders/a/whatis_LPR.htm

hopefully this helps someone and hopefully i start to reep the rewards of not smoking.
it has been ten days since i stopped and I have developed a runnie nose and sore throat. It is nice to read that I am not the only one. I am just wondering if it will end or what plus i have a ear ache.
