Look up cannidiod hyperpermisis syndrome. Long term use of weed can cause this. I just saw a new gastroenterologist today and after hearing my symptoms and history of smoking he recommended I look it up.

A very dear family member (whose name I shall withhold) has been chronically smoking pot and complaining of the same symptoms discussed above: nausea, waking up with abdominal pain, vomiting, etc. After several emergency room visits and visits to GI specialists, we had this person get both a colonoscopy and an endoscopy, basically covering the entire GI tract from both ends. What the results of these tests show are esophagitis of the lower esophageal sphincter ("LES", where the top of the esophagus meets the top of the stomach), and lesions around the stomach wall. The doctor analyzing the tests is seeing more of this condition, which he attributes to cannabanesis. The current literature and findiings are that marijuana, when heavily used, can cause the functioning of the GI tract to loosen. This results in the LES not fully closing and allowing highly acidic gastric juices to leak back into the esophagus. People with GERD experience this same thing.

Ironically, weed use may alleviate some of the nausea this causes, but it appears that weed use ultimate causes this problem. The over-saturation of cannabis on one's system appears in some people to cause the GI tract to weaken. In addition to reflux, it also appears to affect peristalsis, the routine contraction of the GI tract which pushes food through one's digestive system.

If one continues being harmed by "reflux" of those gastric juices, there is a potential for esophageal cancer.

This doctor is going to recommend total abstinence for three months to allow the GI tract to recover to normal functioning.

You are so wrong. Smoking and digesting marijuana is proven to cause cancer. I suggest you read the Eugene generals report.

Yes I have this exact problem. My gastrointestinal doctor says it's from my habitual use of marijuana, I quit for a summer and sure enough the pain subsided. I began again this fall and the pain is right back to where it was

Hello, I have been getting severe stomach problems. I have smoked for about 4 years and never had this problem before but now it seems to get worse the more I smoke it has been persistent. I have been to the accident unit and they told me it was musculo skeletal damage. Now just keep getting trapped wind and cramps also irregular bowel movements and my stomach is churning away 24 hours a day. I have lost sleep and weight and I need to know what is wrong with me :(

Hi there,
My boyfriend has the same problem at this very moment, and he has been smoking for years. He would smoke at least 3-4 times a day either a small splif or fat joint in a backwoods. He has been having these pains for about 6 or more months now and in the beginning the pain were pretty minor, come every now and especially after eating a full meal. So he had to eat very small potions but he would eat very unhealthy. Mind you he's been to the hospital where he did xray, ultra sound, blood work and pee test and the doctors said everything was normal. Now just the other day the pain worsened to the point he was puking up blood bad, having cold sweats and hunched over because the pain in the stomach was excruciating. So he had to be rushed back to the same hospital where a different doctor who recognized the symptoms in weed smoker told him he has cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome and that he needs to quit smoking. He was prescribed some pills to help the pain, the acid reflux and vomiting. So I suggest you guy quit smoking cuz if you don't it could worsen and cause kidney failure.

I don't smoke often, but I feel that this is what may be happening to me. I have pains in my upper abdomen which increase after smoking mj. No more smoking for me, it's really not worth the pain. I also have memory loss so that's pretty scary and there are many times where I get "too high." I guess weed just isn't for everyone ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I agree 100%. I can identify with all the symptoms listed and was diagnosed with gastroparresis 3 years ago after many tests, an endoscopy, several specialists and (ultimately) a gastric emptying scan. My flare ups are pretty predictable: poor diet (low caloric intake), stress to the point of abnormal breathing and holding my breath & excessive air. I believe the way I smoke definitely can trigger a flare up. If I accidentally inhale into my stomach a few times, I'm screwed. I feel your pain. It really sucks.
