I have been lifting seriously for about three years. I smoke marijuana on occasion (once a week, max) and I have not felt a difference in my lifting intensity or work ethic. Motivation and determination are the key in anything you enjoy. If you were a track runner or swimmer, I would advise you to narrow if not completely quit smoking because you will feel the effects of inhaling deep smoke. Moderation is the key.

The best way to work out is high, and I have proven that. My wait is about 160 and I bench well over 300 pounds. I got this strong with the help of mary jane every one of the 10 years that I've been lifting my ass off in the gym. It definitely gives me motivation in the gym by making me want to lift harder, and not talk to every one as much; being high while at the gym gives you that extra concentration on the exact muscle that you are working on; I get the best pumps ever and the greatest feeling when I'm done that I recommend it to everyone.

I disagree a huge deal with most of y'all. Most of you are under the american propaganda that 'weed' is somehow worse than alcohol. Yet if you were to drink all day everyday you'd be frikkin dead in the hospital or in the grave. I smoke weed every day, i go to school and I get A after A after A. I go to the gym four times a week.
Weed only makes you be lazy if you LET it get to you. I must admit it isn't for everyone either so please don't go trying what i do either, its true in my case but i'm not sure if everyone could do the same thing, its well known that medications have way different affects on different people.

i am an advent smoker and love to get blazed out of my mind before i hit the gym or go do my cardio. I never get crazy pumps unless i am ripped. it helps me put the mind in the muscle more and concentrate and visualize. as far as effecting cardio that is no problem . i will blaze a fatty and go ride 60 miles on my bike. i hate all those people that say oh it makes me this or that . the real fact of the matter is that you are just looking for an excuse to be a typical lazy american. suck it up and deal with it. as for asking if it is a good idea or not , no one can tell you why cause they are not in your body. listen to your body it will tell you what it likes and doesn't like. as for me ill be puffin , pumping, swimming , and riding till the end.

I smoke bud. It doesnt f**k with my motivation at all. I will smoke before I lift. And I am just as strong. It puts me in a zone and my pumps will be insane. I am also on Test e and EQ.
smoking pot has its positve and negative effects paranoia is negative but progression of thoughts is a trippp it helps me withmy music and art

No it does absolutly nothing to alter your height. Though it is far better to ingest marijuana by eating it in the form of cannabutter or an ingredient in some food you are preparing. Vaporizors remove all the problems with smoking it, smell and the mess. I highly recommend a quality vaporizor to use as a means of ingesting pot.
Ok so I believe the effects of weed can be different for everybody. For me, when I am high I seem to get into my workout (not to say that I can't without) but I like to push it. Something that I noticed tho if I smoked everyday it messed with my gains. I couldn't make the strength gains when smoking everyday. As far as having positive effects, I would say only for enthusiasm for some people. I think weed like alcohol has negative effects on any workout gains. Depending on the person and consumption.
The people who say that weed hurts your workout are stupid. I smoke every time before I go into the gym. EVERYTIME. And I kill it for 1 hour. 5 min warm up. 40 min resistance training, and 15 min. cardio. I have 6% body fat, weigh 210 and am 6'1", probably in the best shape of my life. Weed isn't the reason for why my body looks so good, but it does help me focus in the gym on the task at hand, which is lifting hard and in proper form. Marijuana neither hinders nor helps your workout, you are responsible for your efforts in the gym and whether it be cardio or resistance training, if there is no will...there is no way!
And for all of you who speak so poorly about marijuana in the gym, f**k you, I will out lift you and look better doing it. Pussies!

Forget the personal opinions that everyone tries to convey and look at it from a more realistic perspective:
If you want optimal progress, working out while under any substance isn't the best thing for your body since you're essentially wearing yourself out then letting your body recover.
Think about it, your body is ripping your muscle fibers when you lift. The soreness and muscle growth you get is a direct effect of the body repairing itself. During this time, especially in the first hour or two following the workout, your body is sucking up the nutrients it can to help this process.
The thing is, there really isn't any conclusive evidence on it. Hell, they can't even prove that long term use causes cancer, brain damage, or stunts growth. A lot of negative things you hear are largely myths, but I'd put it on par with alcohol and cigarette smoking.
Anyway, in my opinion, use the same logic you would with drinking. You shouldn't workout while drunk, or drink while working out, so apply that to marijuana.

These replies saying that marijuana will destroy your life, make you stunted in growth, and turn you into super devil are all incorrect. People that are losers in life that happen to smoke weed just smoke the weed to self medicate. Remember, marijuana is a drug, and we are prescribed drugs all the time for ailments. So the people that have a few loser friends that are potheads and think they are smart enough to use those small case examples to judge the whole group of marijuana users are just pseudoscience-jumping-to-conclusions-can't-see-the-whole-big-picture pseudo intellectuals; or they are just so brainwashed by the government they assume if anything negative happens in a person's life it has to be a result of the marijuana, instead of the marijuana being a result of the failure.
I know tons of successful people that smoke pot. Don't you think like 90% of the movie industry smokes pot? At least the good ones do, because I'd stake my life that they are more creative overall! Anyways, pot has been used for medication already, part of its properties are painkilling in certain strands of pot, I believe indica strains help more with the painkilling. So pot can really help with putting in an extra rep or too. Also, your heartbeat is going to be a tad bit higher so cardio might prove even more effective since you'll be operating at approximately 10 BPM more for that 20, 30, or whatever minutes you're running for. Plus, if you're running outside, things are a lot more interesting while on pot than otherwise. Try to make sure you're in a really kick ass mood before smoking pot though, as your high is largely guided by your overall mood; if you're too mopey the pot might very well make you want to lift less and push yourself a lot lower than you'd ordinarily want to.
I'm not trying to make everyone out there smoke pot; but people need to realize that pot does not control your life unless you let it... and if you're letting it, then you already have psychological issues and maybe you should consider to keep on smoking pot if it makes you happy, or see a psychologist. A psychiatrist will just give you more drugs. :-)
