I don't think that there is anything wrong with smoking marijuana. For myself, it allows me to understand every aspect in my life much clearer. I do believe that just like anything in life, moderation is the key. For most, smoking weed every day will possibly induce paranoid behavior or perhaps a cognitive dissonance that may not be as prevelant when not high. This happens because you are recognizing inconsistincies in your life that demand correction. Marijuana will enable you to understand, and if that doesn't make sense then you may be smoking the wrong stuff or for the wrong reason. I smoke maybe only once or twice a month, and find it to be the most beneficial plant that the government doesn't want you to enjoy for a reason. It gets in the way of executive decision. They would rather have people remain uneducated robots rather then enlightened intellects.
Whoever is trying to criticize someone for smoking needs to clearly look at themselves in the mirror. I love weed, graduated from college, have sex with hot girls, have money, and work out. What do you have Mr. Judgy McStraightedge? As long as you keep your sh*t straight, weed is awesome.

I actually only read the first page, and I am sure this has been adressed at some point, but I am 25, smoked a lot in college, still smoke 6-7 times a month. Its just like drinking a glass of wine to unwind, anything in moderation is fine, enjoy life.
but anyway, I am still curious if pot has any positive effects. I have always wondered if you get the munchies but don't eat, is that burning more calories. does pot speed your metabolism, which would speed up your recovery time after lifting, which would also help
I too love smoking weed. I haven't heard of marijuana having a positive effect on weight lifting, but I came here to see if anybody knew of how it could have a negative effect on weight lifting. I don't think it does, but wanted to check just in case because I'm about to smoke right now and I got back from the gym a couple hours ago. I know it's not good to drink alcohol after working out, just wanted to know if the same goes for weed. But if it is positive, then that's great. I agree, it does effect memory and concentration somewhat, but it will never cause me to miss a workout session. Besides, my friends don't smoke and I can control myself so weed isn't that bad at all. It doesn't effect my schoolwork either, since I did have my best semester of college last semester. PUFF PUFF PASS, WHO'S NEXT?

jackasses....ive been smokin weed since i was 12 and im still playin sports and workin out....it all depends on the person...and what ure mentally about...if ure bout gettin blazed then workin out then do it...and keep up w/ it cuz if u dont then ure gonna fall off

This is correct. I've been smoking weed for about 4 years and working out for the last year and a half. I've gained a stone of lean muscle with the help of creatine and a good diet. People tend to look at advice on a forum and use it the second they find a good quote, but it really depends on who you are, what body type you have and how dedicated you are to certain things in your life.

i smoke weed and i still work out and play sports and i finished college and going to university. So like they said it depends on the person u gotta know when the time for it is. I am not gonna smoke before a test but damn sure will after.
My buddy smokes and goes to the gym and says its great. He is more focused and his muscles tell him how much he can do. So it depends try it just don't drop the weights on yourself.
every argument against smoking marijuana is completely opinionated.

its all bull. smoking makes you lazy if you want it to
all potheads are gonna find reasons to justify their habit. this is denial. quit that sht and get on with your life. you'll save money, get laid more often and anyone who feels that there are any benefits from sucking down tar all day is a damn fool. marijuana affects the part of the brain that regulates dopamine, the pleasure chemical. if you smoke too much your dopamine levels are out of whack and thats why you need it to feel just "ok". motivation is related to dopamine 100% no wonder potheads USUALLY are unmotivated apathetic losers who never get laid. then again i do feel that in some cases the individual can triumph over the negatives of smoking but that just adds to justification for using the drug
there`s this girl i wanna go out with and we`ve been freinds for awile now but she`s a marijuana (cant spell it) addict....... she`s cool and everything but like in the morning she come`s in reacking of the stuff and so i high that i end up haveing to help her just to think straight so should i confront her about it or what?
yes weed stunts your growth. It decreases your growth hormone but not to a large degree. I smoke weed every damn day and work out every day. I love them both and recommend them both. I have done some research and it doesnt look like smoking weed will hinder your results as long as you stay motivated!!! cheers to mary jane
There are a couple sides to this debate. First of all, I would like to tell you my personall expierence before we get into some of the science that I know or have heard. I am about six foot tall and weigh about 255 pounds, im usually about 235 but I have been bulking to try to add some pounds to my lifts. I have been lifting for about two years and have seen most of my gains in the last year or so. I bench press around 425, squat around 455, and have a dead lift of 455 three times. These numbers wont be confirmed until I do a competition this year, and also I am 21 years of age. The funny thing is that I smoke weed when I have the money and time about once or twice a week. Last year when I was lifting really heavy and hit a personal best bench of 385 and a deadlift of 475 I was smoking about four times a week. I also have a 3.97 gpa, granted it is at a community college, but still not easy to do anywhere. I have lifted four to five days a week for about two years straight now with no real breaks, just off weeks to recover. As you can see, marijuana really doesnt have a great affect on motiviation in life itself, although I will admit that when I smoke it I will be useless for about four hours, so I just do not smoke it when I have things to do. I agree with many people when they say that it is the person that it depends on and not the drug. I can stay motivated when Im not high and I put up big numbers in the weight room when Im not high.
The science part of it is very anecdotal and not quite proven yet. Not enough studying has been done on the subject. I have heard and read that marijuana can reduce swelling. This is a great thing in lifting because swelling of muslces can cause pain and deter from making a workout. Also, this helps tendons and joints greatly. I take this concept from the fact that arthritis is treated with marijuana, and arthritis is inflamation of joints. So that is a positive if it is true. Also, for many smaller athletes, food intake is key to putting on quality muscle. Marijuana stimulates the appetite and can help you take in those needed calories. I will say though that I do not smoke when I want to lose weight becasue I take in so much food when I smoke. Yet again, this is case by case basis and marijuana effects everyones brains different. It is the same concept as saying that everyone is different in personalities. Everyones brain is wired differently and the cannaboids will effect your brain different than someone elses.
The negatives of marijuana can be that it decreses your testosterone levels for heavy users. It has been linked to decreased test functions. Testosterone is a major key in muscle mass gains and strength and needs to be very high to deal with the stress of lifting and building muscles. Also, I have heard that THC can block the bodys ability to respond to sickness and hurt the bodys ability to repair muscle. I dont know if there is scientific evidence behind that but I have heard comments like that.
All in all, if you are a serious training athlete and are competing at the highest levels, you probably should not use marijuana just because the effects that have been linked to your body. On the other hand, I love the way marijuana makes me feel, unless I get some bad stuff, and it is hard to give up completely. The effects it has on you cannot be generalized to the entire population of humans. Everyone has a different expierence. I have accomplished great numbers in the weight room while smoking marijuana for recreation a few times a week or less. I want to compete proffesionally some day in powerlifting or strongman and I am on my way, but right now I feel marijuana enhances my daily expierences and I will not give it up soon unless outside forces make me. Thank you for reading this!!
The effects of Marijuana are all in your mind, it's all what you want to do. Some loser up there ^^ was talking about not getting laid cause of it. Buddy, i smoke almost daily and i get more women then you ever have. Smoking makes you question a lot more things that you normally wouldnt. It opens your mind to new things, and that's a good thing! If you want to have one view of the world and have one line of thought about things then thats your choice. Smoking Marijuana can help you understand things you wouldnt when your sober. And its also a VERY benificial plant.
I've been lifting consistantly for about a year. The first 8 months i lifted and usually didnt blaze until much later or not at all;

Without blaze sesh after, 8 months-
Gained 137 - 155[]Bench went up 125 - 160. (7 rep max)

Blaze sesh immediatly after, 4 months-
Gained 155-167[]Bench went up 160 - 200. (7 rep max)

Note; i hit the gym 4 days a week, i just listed bench because it stands out the most for me.

Take it how you will, i'll be liftin' -> burnin' -> munchin' -> growin'
yo niggas let me tell you something..i smoke weed all day everyday..i got a good job..get alot of money..go to the gym..play video games..play with my son..everything..people who say get educated and all that ying yang get smacked..i graduated from high school and college high..i graduated everything while i was smoking so much weed you couldnt even believe it..now its no fun anymore but whatever its ok..to answer the question..you get a little weak unless you put effort and take care of everything that needs to be done..agree or dissagree i dont give a fcuk you digg? smokee weed all dayy...420
Hello.
I've been lifting weights for like a year now. Recently I started smoking weed with my friends because well.. it's what we do in high school right?
( 2008 yeah! ) anyways.. I wouldn't recommend smoking weed if your planning on lifting weights. I found it very difficult to lift as much as I could before after I started smoking weed. Also made it difficult to play sports like football and basketball because I would run out of breath easily. I have no medical condition and im in very good shape. So I figured its the weed. Thats just me.

Weed is cool. But playing sports is better. 8)
What an interesting topic. A lot of drugs (licit or illicit) can affect the degree of secretion of important hormones. It is said Marijuana decreases the secretion of testosterone, obviously important for muscle development. I'm not sure if it does decrease secretion however. I have had blood tests whilst smoking weed and my testosterone levels have remained within a normal range. My HgH levels however where increased above normal ranges but this was when i was smoking along with weight training. Who knows? Specfic research needed! But no one will research it because marijuana is illegal. I personally don't see an issue with marijuana use, it has some awesome benefits, society is c**p, life isn't, how else do we put up with all the wankers of society without some "relief" or fun downtime. Marijuana addiction will affect your life, but any addiciton will. That's any addiction. Because you're doing it all the time and in today's society we have responsibilities whether we like it or not and have to allocate time to them.
