Width and Length are separate topics. I prefer width size play, my first wife preferred to test me with length (possibly because I wasn't huge on it - more 'punishment' than pleasure.) Most of my width play is solo. You can work yourself, with practice, up to very large sizes. I use bottles (household) because they are convenient and cheap/free. Lots of bathroom products come in small - medium size bottles (plastic bottles have give and are easier as they conform slightly). A glass bottle is extremely strong (you can't break it by squeezing it) if it is not compromised (cracked, nicked) but be careful - obviously anything glass has a shatter risk and that would be very very bad (saw a video on the internet - trust me - very bad - people have bled out from having sex with horses, probably other internal injuries.) If you are into the extreme 750 ML wine bottles are typically between 23 and 26 cm (circumference, 2.8"-3.24" diameter) that's a good goal, many are tapered at the bottom (smaller) which can help. Once you graduated beyond these there are many different bottles to get you up to 1.5L wine bottles. Yes this is possible as I have done it hundred of times but it takes practice and you need to be careful. I never bled until I started pushing it beyond 30 cm (3.75" diameter).
VERY IMPORTANT - if you see blood STOP, small tears become large tears fairly easily and they bleed for a long time (hours). Once with a 1.5L bottle I bled so long I feared bleeding out and was in the hospital overnight (obviously embarrassing but also expensive.) They didn't really do anything (except a saline drip and observation) and it stopped on its own eventually but don't ignore the warning signs If you do bleed insert ice cubes, lay on your stomach and relax (try to lower your heart rate) and hold it as long as possible (the ice will constrict your blood vessels, which may allow your body to clot/heal enough to stop.) If you bleed you must take a few weeks off to heal entirely so don't push it.
However - It isn't dangerous (well no more so than say riding a motorcycle, skiing, or playing a contact sport) if you STOP when you see any blood or have stabbing pain (you should know) but I pushed through that as I really wanted to achieve a larger (new) size (mistake.) I can now (safely) do a Yellowtail 1.5L wine bottle (31 cm - almost 4" diameter) but I think this is about the max for my skeletal structure (pelvic opening is only so wide). I've occasionally gone slightly larger but I need to be careful so after many years of stretching I'm pretty much at the max (which saddens me a little - I really enjoyed the chase of a larger bottle.) Trust me though almost anyone (full stature) can do a standard wine bottle with practice. I'm not sure if women have it easier (wider pelvic) or not but almost all videos on the internet of extreme size (Hard to trust photos) are of men. This may just be that men are more into 'extreme' stretching than women.
