I had a thermo uterine ablation done in 2009 and decided to go with an IUD in 2011. A few weeks after the placement of the IUD when I went back for a routine check, they said it had slipped (I never felt anything uncomfortable) and that they'd need to remove it and place a new one. 3 weeks after placing the new IUD, I started have cold sweats, extreme cramping, & nausea. Luckily I worked for a large group of ObGyn's at the time (none of which were my personal physicians). One of them asked me what was wrong and I told her my symptoms and about the new IUD placement. She told me I most likely had Pelvic Inflammatory Disease and to get in to see my doctor right away. I ended up seeing a doctor who was covering for my doctor as she was out on maternity leave. Well, the doctor I worked with was right. I was put on an antibiotic and mild pain reliever and the IUD was removed because "women who have had ablations are discouraged from using IUD's because there's no lining for the IUD to 'grab' onto". I wish my doctor had known that in the very beginning!

Hi, I know this post is old but I hope you'll reply as I'm having no luck finding info on the net. I had both procedures yesterday and I just wanted to know how long you bled for after the procedure? I'm bleeding very heavily (as expected) bit just curios as to how long it goes on for. Thanks

I had this done, I was told afterward by a senior consultant gynaecologist that it should NEVER have been done at the same time as an ablation, this is because the ablation causes scar tissue and can pull the more a up as it heals and then can grow into the womb, which is exactly what's happened with me it cannot be removed safely so I'm now facing a hysterectomy, my advice don't do it!

I am so glad to see people talking about both since I'm seeking an ablation but going through too much bureaucracy getting the tubal with it. I don't feel safe getting the ablation alone because my tubes are huge and i would have an ectopic pregnancy for sure. Let me know if this is a thing. Thank you community!!

Hi there. Anyone else ever done paragord and ablation?

I had ablation and mirena fitted in June. I had a week off as directed. Had a bit of cramping and slight bleeding for about 2 weeks. When my period was due had very slight spotting and then nothing since. I totally recommend this procedure, I have my life back. My heavy bleeding was due to perimenopause and was horrendous, was anaemic most of the time. I'm so glad I had it done.

Yes..i had this today. I've been discharged and recovering from ablation as well as fibroid removal and then mirena inserted at the same time. It might be too early to give an outcome just yet but all i can say is I'm absolutely exhausted from the GA and bleeding bright red a lot but glad I'm home!! I will check in with you from time to time with an update if this helps.. happy to share my experience.

I am in the same boat! Had heavy bleeding at age 48. Was advised to have an ablation and then Mirena placed at the same time. Now, 4 years later, the IUD is embedded into the lining of the scarred-over uterus. It can't be removed without first having two different radiology procedures and then proceeding with being put under anesthesia to try and "cut" it out, and if that doesn't work, hysterectomy. Having a hysterectomy just to remove an IUD is insane! This is going to cost me a fortune! I want it out though because it has caused SEVERE acne ever since being placed.

Hello all! I am in the hospital right now. I had an ablation done on 9/20/17. Light bleeding and nasty discharge. Everything seemed to be subsiding and then I had a fever from 10/8 to 10/9. I figured one of my kids was getting sick and I just caught it. Then last week on 10/12/17 I ended up with a brown discharge that smelt honestly like something died in my pants. I was put on flagl to stop this and it was working great. Then on Sunday night,10/15 when I got out of the shower the blood was pouring out of me. Bright red and the clots were huge. We called the doctor and was told if I was filling the pad in a hour to go to the ER. Well my husband forced me to check my pad, this was 22 minutes later and it was filled. Off to the ER we went. Pain wasn’t bad until we got to the ER. Basically I was having a contraction of about 200 no exaggeration that had no downtime. My body was trying to pass the. Lots and my cervix was open. The ER told me since my vitals were fine I could wait. After sitting in the ER for 2 and a half hours I left to go to another ER. I was in and out of the other one. He removed some of the clots and gave me pain meds. I already had an appointment with my OB on Monday from the other incident on Thursday. My husband called Londay morning and had my appointment switched to the am which thank god he did. I have been in the hospital on fluids, antibiotics, pain meds and progesterone trying to stop the bleeding. Today I am supposed to get a DNC and possibly a Mirena put in also. Honestly I want a hysterectomy because I am so fearful that the Mirena will get stuck and cause other complications and after what I went through I am beyond done with all this. I will bookmark this page and let you know what I had done but I hope that everything works out for you all.

Hi, my name is Shelley. Almost 4 weeks ago I had a Novasure ablation & a Mirena put in. Bloody sore for the first two days. But now just the yellow discharge coming out not sure if it's meant to be yellow but I'm guessing it is. I'm due for my periods but so far just the pains . This is meant to stop my periods hopefully it does after suffering from so much heavy bleeding over 16 years of it.

I had an ablation and iud insertion 4 weeks ago. I have had the weeping stage immediately after the alabation which lasted 2 weeks but without much pain. I then had brown gunk pour out of me for 1 week and I’ve had a period for the 5 days with no end insite, infact it’s getting worse. I now have bloating, backpain, pelvic pain, cramping and breast pain. I had no pain of any sort before the procedure(s). I am feeling so defeated and incredibly sad. This was to 100% effectively end my periods into menopause - I am 48. But this has made it worse. I regret my decision and want it removed. When I can have it removed is of course an issue, appointments are hard to get. Today I actually just cried.
