i had the mirena for almost 4 years and just recently had it removed. i experienced the mirena crash and hard. i have baseball size blood clots cramps that feel like labor pains. i have been extremely emotional. my mood swings got so bad someone contacted local cps on me cause they thought i was an endangerment to my children. now that i know whats going on with me im taking the steps to fix it. but when i reached out for support on facebook from friends and family I got welcomed with hatred and ridicule saying i couldnt blame my problems on birth control. I wish there was a way that we could get the word out there more and make ppl aware that it does happen. I just hope i can fix everything before cps decides to take the kids. i have been so emotionally unstable and having regular panick attacks no one trusts me to care for my kids.
Yes - this is terrible to hear that many stories of IUD side-effects - the IUD can be a cause of serious complications which include hemorrhage, pelvic infection, perforation of the uterus and even death. Additionally IUDs also act as abortifacients (i.e. during ovulation) - achieving its birth control effect by preventing the newly conceived life (after fertilization) from implanting in the uterine lining (endometrium) - the similar mechanism, which works in case of hormonal pills (by not allowing already conceived life to attach to uterine lining). As I wrote on this forum many times - go natural - use natural birth control methods / natural family planning - I use Lady-Comp natural birth control fertility monitor, which recognizes fertile and non fertile days in your body with clinically proven 99.3% effectiveness.....it is a really great device and 100% healthy and safe.... In relation to hormonal pills: “Complications arising from the use of the Pill are very frequent. Infertility after its use for 7-15 years is a very serious problem. S crypts are very sensitive to normal and cyclical stimulation by natural oestrogens, and the Pill causes atrophy of these crypts. Fertility is impaired, treatment is difficult. [...] After 3 to 15 months of contraceptive pill use, there is a greater loss of the S crypt cells than can be replaced [...] A pregnancy rejuvenates the cervix by 2-3 years, but for each year the Pill is taken, the cervix ages by an extra year.” - Professor Erik Odeblad, Sweden Additionallly: - Hormonal pills and some other “birth control’ methods like intrauterine device (IUD) very often act as abortifacients – while using them, a woman can still have “breakthrough ovulation”, what occurs frequently. Unfortunately a woman can still conceive a baby, who because of synthetic hormones cannot attach to the uterine lining and is aborted! -The pill’s third mechanism is to change the lining of the endometrium (the lining of the womb), which creates a hostile environment for a newly created human being. The tiny baby cannot implant and is spontaneously aborted by the body.- it is terrible to hear that many doctors don't say about that.... Definitely try natural family planning methods - or visit the site: http://www.ccli.org/
Just take note mine started that away. Then I felt pinching. Discomfort. I later found out it was starting to embed that is why it was pinching and discomfort. Now I have Abscesses I have great hygiene but the abscesses started right after I made the doctors remove the IUD. This is bad also. I only had the IUD in a few months. This was a few years ago. Doctors refused to remove the IUD since it is good for 5 years. I had to call the State medical Board to get help. Guess what I never had a problem getting pregnant before. Now I can not get pregnant. I hate the IUD.
I was diagnosed also with adenomyosis and I just had put in an IUD about a month ago and I've been spotting since. i just had my period few days ago and it was a lot lighter that before. i also got this IUD to avoid hysterectomy because every time i get my period it was so heavy and a lot of clots with thick and flaky blood it wont even soak up in my pad because of thickness and slimy. my concern now is that I've been spotting since i got put in my iud and i can see string of blood in the toilet when i pee. im tired of wearing liners everyday and i'm married good thing i have an understanding husband...
I had my first Mirena put in Dec 2003, in 2008 I started feeling weird and not acting right, flirting with other men, staying out all night, acting not myself at all. I got the Mirena replaced in 2008 and now 2013 I am starting to feel the same way as I did in 2008. I love my husband very much and I don't know why I am acting like this, it's like I'm getting a thrill out of it. I have a appointment to get the Mirena replaced next month, but I don't know if I want to get it replaced now and not just removed. I'm weepy, not sleeping, talking with other men, considering leaving my husband of 16 years. I feel like I am going crazy.
I have had the Mirena in since 2011. I bleed for a couple of weeks at first but then I got regulated and now I have very light periods monthly. I was very worried about all the side effects that they warn you about but as of yet, nothing has drastically changed with me. I have had a very positive result with being on it. I have had a little discharge, but with no odor. Everyone's body is different and I do have a history of heart problems but the Mirena has not effected that either.
Not only you hate it - many, many women can testimony the same what you do and also it all depends from the doctors, as not all of them fully inform about all consequences of using IUD and pills like also not all of them inform that pills and IUD have anty-nidation effect for newly conceived embryo....the same is with natural birth control methods - they are great and effective ways of birth control, Creighton, Roetzer or fertility computers like Lady-Comp, which I use and I'm so happy - this is where technology meets with nature :-) All the best
Well - once you remove IUD it should be better everyday....my recommendation is never come back to IUD and hormonal pills again....Do you know that complications arising from the use of the pill and the coil are very frequent? Infertility after its use for 7-15 years is a very serious problem and for each year the pill is taken, the cervix ages by an extra year. not mentioning the abortifacient features of the pill and IUD, what I mentioned before....go natural - for all the methods or Lady-Comp you can read also in my previous posts....
The Pill is linked with medical side effects ranging from blood clots and strokes to ectopic pregnancies and cancer. The I.U.D. can cause cramping, haemorrhaging, pelvic inflammation, and even death. Spermicidal foams can cause vaginal irritation and may lead to birth defects as at least one study has shown. Tubal ligation is associated with surgical complications and ectopic pregnancies. Vasectomies, and even the use of condoms, frequently result in immune system reactions - never come back to pill & IUD - for the reasons stated in the previous posts here (please take a look at my previous post here about natural methods and Lady-Comp)
Dear Guest
Using such invasive device like Mirena or hormonal pills will always take a toll earlier or later unfortunately - your body us not designed for such things, your heart is not designed for that too...natural birth control is the best invention ever - and it is perfect for your body, natural birth control is a no-drugs, no-devices way of spacing or regulating births. It is completely healthy. In fact, because a woman truly gets to know her body through fertility awareness, she often can detect important changes that might lead to the early diagnosis and treatment of medical problems. If you haven't my previous posts about natural birth control, anty-nidation (abortifacient function of the pill and IUD) or Lady-Comp natural birth control monitor - you are very welcome to do so - as I'm big supporter of that....
I am doing research right now to promote Ecological Breastfeeding and systematic Natural Family Planning. These are the two methods I have used to space my babies and I LOVE them. I feel so sorry for women experiencing this suffering from IUD's and pills. None of it is healthy or good.
There is no other practice in the medical world that tries to STOP a HEALTHY, functioning system! Your fertility is beautiful! It gives you feramones! Men are so attracted to fertile women! And babies are a LOT less trouble, suffering and headache than the horror stories I'm hearing on this website. It all sounds totally insane to me. I love my babies, and having them well spaced apart makes them easy to manage. I am pregnant with baby number four and she is my first girl! What a joy it will be to have a daughter!
Life doesn't have to be this hard, ladies. You don't have to control everything, and you can't control nature anyway! What a huge stress to take on! I suggest sitting back and trusting God. He can and will lead you out of this mess and misery. I'm praying for you.
I got Mirena few years ago not as a birth control (my husband had the vasectomy), but to stop or minimize my premenopausal bleedings between my periods (per my doctor, who never ordered any tests or ultrasound for me). I have to admit, my periods are lighter, and without pain, but my spottings/bleedings are very frequent. Foul smelling discharge is very bothersome, I have to use pads constantly. According to my doctor, everything is fine, he never called me back with the results of a culture (meaning its negative). My family doesnt like my mood swings, and my husband doesnt like the decrease of my libido. Lately I have started experiencing uterine discomfort, heaviness, back pain. Why going to the same doctor who will again tell me that everything is OK with me, because of my age (49). I am switching to a different OB-GYN and taking Mirena "the Monster" out. Anybody with similar symptoms?
Update: I had the Mirena removed yesterday. I reached a point of so much fatigue, impatience, low self esteem due to bloating and acne, and then the nausea hit me so badly I couldn't eat for days. It's only been out for about 24 hours but I already feel better. My acne isn't completely gone of course but I can already tell a small difference. The removal wasn't painful at all even though I thought the insertion was. I'm still feeling nauseated and had trouble sleeping last night, but I haven't bled at all. Very mild cramping last night that went away with some over the counter pain medicine. I'm hopeful that things will only get better from here! Good luck to all of you with your Mirena experience, I hope you don't have side effects and if you do I hope you can get it under control before it takes over your life!
Thank you so much for sharing your post.. I am miserable right now. I got the Mirena implanted approximately two months ago and have had a menstrual cycle since the implementation. Also, I too have noticed some weight gain and body ache. The answer in my opinion is to take it out!!
