I've been having horrible pains in my neck, arm, and chest... like, I really feel like I'm having a heart attack. Also, I bleed really randomly. And that shouldn't be happening anymore considering I've had this thing for almost 4 years. I ended up having to get my cervix scraped because I had precancerous cells... and my o.b. literally told me it was the Mirena. So yeah... I'm getting this thing out before I have a heart attack or stroke. 5 years without getting pregnant sounds nice whenever they try to hype it up, but this has been horrible. Beyond horrible. I'm only 23 and my body feels like its falling apart. And it is because of the Mirena. I've asked my doctors.

I found an excerpt from an article about Mirena: "This device is highly effective at preventing pregnancy, but some women may experience dangerous, life-threatening side effects such as perforation of the uterus, pelvic inflammatory disease and ectopic pregnancy (pregnancy that occurs outside the uterus). The device may also spontaneously move from the uterus and embed in other parts of the body such as the uterine wall or abdomen, requiring difficult surgery to remove. Women who have experienced some of these side effects filed lawsuits against Bayer claiming that the company did not properly warn of these side effects." Definetly get yours removed immediately!!!

For the most part I have been happy with my IUD. More recently I've noticed a lot of memory loss and a brain fog. I've been concerned that I have early stages of demensia or it's due to having a baby.
I started researching to see if memory loss is a side effect. I'm really hoping this is what's going on.

Hi - there are hundreds of cases like that and many cases in court against IUD. I use NFP (Lady-Comp) from many years and love it. Natural family planning doesn't reject complex biological clock and never harm newly conceived life, as opposed to chemical and physical "birth control" methods (especially hormonal pills and IUDs), which not only have many side effects but also often act in anti-implantation way - while using them, a woman can still have breakthrough ovulation, what occurs frequently. Unfortunately a woman can still conceive an embryo, who because of synthetic hormones (or intrusion - coil) can't attach to the mother's uterine lining....

Hi Nessa - do you know Lady-Comp as I use it from many years and I'm very happy about it?

Thank you for this post!!! I am currently searching the web on the link between the Mirena and chronic muscle pain. I am in tons of pain from my shoulders, neck and upper back, to my hips, butt and legs. I am popping Tylenol and Advil like it's candy just to get through the day and taking muscle relaxants at night to sleep. I have also have the "stink" that was mentioned in above posts and never even thought to link them. On top of this, I was told I am in early menopause at age 34 and I completely think it is the Mirena that has caused this. I am getting it out asap.

Hi everyone. I have had the mire a in for four years and have not been myself. I am 39. I have experienced depression in my life but never anxiety. Over the years I have experienced heart palpatation, anxiety, depression and the list goes on. Going to see another doctor for an opinion and possible removal. Would love to back to my happy active self.

I definitely can relate to this. I have the discharge with the odor too. I feel disgusting and I hate feeling that way. I just got my mirena put in on Wednesday this last week.

I'm not sure if you will get this or not but I just started seeing a holistic physician and I am learning a lot about hormone balance. She does not like the idea having an IUD and quite frankly neither am I at this point. My hormones are very much out of whack and I virtually have no testosterone in my body which attributes to mood swings, depression, weight gain, extreme fatigue, low sex drive, poor concentration....every single symptom that I have. I'm seriously considering having it removed because I have been absolutely miserable on it this go round (didnt seem to have issues with the first one) and beginning a hormon replacement therapy.

I also had to stop breastfeeding because I was having issues with my supply once I had it put in. I even went on Reglan to boost my supply three times but the second I came off of it my supply dropped...just showing that Mirena does more to your body than they claim.

I have had mirena since 2013. I finally got it out last month because me ans my husband want to try for children. But i am having issues. I am having mood swings from h.e.double l. I cant sleep for long periods of time then i sleep for like 12 hours when i do fall asleep. I feel like my vagina always smells. I gained weight. I dont know what to do. When i put it in i bleed for 2 months straight but then i was fine. I graduated bootcamp and moved on to the fleet just fine. No weight gain, no headaches, no acne. I was able to do my job and laugh about everything. Now all i do is cry, eat, yell. Anyone else?.

Thankyou for writing this. I had the Mirena put in on Monday and I thought I was feeling off from the anaesthetic as I had a biopsy done at the same time. I woke from anaesthetic with a migraine, I am dizzy and feeling generally off. My skin is oily, puffy face, craving chocolate which is unlike me, anxious, heart palpitations and highly sensitive sensory as well as agitated. I have had very little sleep despite being tired and wanting to sleep and I am bloated and feeling uncomfortable. The dr said it is no way the Mirena, however it is the only answer. Making an appt asap for removal. Thanks.

Thank you for this! I have had severe neck and head pain for the last year and cannot figure out what is wrong. I have had blood tests, and MRI, I’ve been referred to a neurologist and they can’t explain it! Somehow I stumbled across an article tying different types of unexplained pain to the IUD and even though a doctor has not confirmed this is the reason, I am 100% convinced and on Monday I am having my IUD taken out!!! Praying for relief! All women should be warned. Thank you again.

I cannot even begin to tell you how thankful I am for your response! I’ve been living the exact same hell you describe for the LAST 3 YEARS!!!! Tachycardia, BRAIN FOG & DIZZINESS and more recently, COMPLETE PAINC ATTACKS! I’ve seen every doctor under the sun and even underwent an unsuccessful heart ablation! No one, not one single health care professional mentioned that my whole spectrum of problems could be due to my Mirena! Tomorrow, it’s gone!!! It’s been two weeks since my last panic attack and tonight, I started to get the anxiety again. Here we go! Another two weeks of total Hell! Can you provide me with any more information? How long until you finally felt ‘normal’ again? Again, I am so thankful for you and your response! Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!

I once got enraged mad at my bf for 3 days for eating the last $1 box made brownies. It wasn't just, you ate the last brownie. It was a total meltdown of "I can't have any expectations of you ". I felt completely bat sh*t. So glad to be off the birth control. I felt so angry that I could have burnt our house down and felt justified. In real life Im a very patient kind person. Not on birth control tho.
