I can relate completely. I've always been thin (17-18 BMI). I am 43 and a long distance runner. Had Mirena put in ~10 months ago, and have gained 20 lbs (!!) without changing my exercise routing or eating habits. Also, terrible acne and daily headaches, neither of which i have ever suffered from, have become "normal" for me. Unfortunately, this happens with every form of hormonal BC I've ever tried. So ,next week, the IUD's coming out, and next month I'm going in for tubal ligation (which I wish I had done years ago).
The Mirena does cause weight gain. I was thin my whole life until I used this horrible thing. Now, after ONE month, I am a size I've never been, even up to my fifth month of pregnancy with my son, eleven years ago. No other type of birth control has done this. It's no myth, ladies!
Just had my mirena removed yesterday after 3 years. Was very emotional today, cried off n on all day. I had gained 25lbs with the mirena, often got depressed because of the weight gain. Looking forward to loosing the weight. Will keep you posted.
Having the Mirena removed tomorrow? Have you all had success at losing the weight?
Was it easier to lose weight after you had the IUD removed? It has been a week since I had mine removed, no period yet and no weight loss just yet. I never had a problem losing weight until I got the IUD put in.
exactly my story. did you have it removed and did you loose any weight, aside from diet and exercise?
I am trying to find out if the Mirena IUD can cause weight gain? I had one put in about 2 1/2 years ago and have gained 30 lbs so far.
While on the iud my periods stopped after 3 years. Did this cause my weight gain and if so if I take the iud out, will I lose weight?
