Monistat 1 - how long does it take to work? what is normal?

I have had a yeast infection before, but went to the doctor for it.
now that I have one again, I don't have any insurance. I used monistat 1 for it this time. I am curious just how do I know its working?
my pain and itching and swelling have decreased, but I am still having a lot of white clumpy discharge. I still feel that there is a problem down there, but it isn't crippling now. is that normal.
and with the monistat one, (which I won't use again) there came a night of no sleep because it amplified everything by 100!!! itching and burning!!!
so what is normal for a yeast infection when it is clearing up?

I also recently used Monistat 1 for a first ever yeast infection (on Sunday). I didn't have any exacerbated irritation from using this medication; I do wish that I would have gone with the 7 day solution as I think it would be more efficient. Insertion was easy and comfortable.
I just wanted to answer a few questions on this forum, through my personal experience of course.
The discharge some women are confused/anxious about is normal! You need to discharge the medication as it is a vaginal suppository! In my experience, there was quite a bit of thick white discharge with no odour.
As for sex, it is a pretty bad idea. You shouldn't be having intercourse for 3 days AFTER using this medication; in my opinion 3 days AFTER means after most/all of the medication has been expelled... So this means 6 days after insertion of the ovule. Again, this is just my opinion.
As for urinating after insertion, you should be able to do this without the ovule falling out. I had no issues with it dislodging and releasing. I think the ovule is something of an extended release medication, meaning it doesn't dissolve immediately and continues to release medication for a period of time. I think if some women are having issues with it dislodging, you may not be releasing it high enough into the vaginal canal.
As for the increase in burning and itching, I have heard that for a short period of time while some initial candida are being killed off, there is an increase in intensity of symptoms. I really can't confirm this and I don't have any experience/opinion on the matter, as I did not experience this.
I really do stress reading the information pamphlet inside the exterior packaging (box) of the medicine, when using any medication for that matter. I think some women are anxious/confused over things that are answered to within the pamphlet.
As for the actual treatment on Monistat 1, like I said, I really wish I would have decided on Monistat 7. My personal symptoms were itching, redness and irritability of the vulva. Its the fourth day after insertion and my symptoms have mostly resided, I have a little-teeny-tiny itch now and again, but other than that, nada.
I really hope this helps someone! Good luck to everyone! :)

You may not have a yeast infection then, it could possibly be BV... which needs a different kind of treatment

Like many other M1 day users, this was my first YI. It started back in 2011 when I was pregnant with my son and the itching was so bad. Well after changing some habits (nylon underwear and completely drying my lady parts, and eating A LOT of yogurt) it started to go away. It didn't come back until a few months after I had my son. It only comes every so often, usually right before my period, and the discharge is cottage cheese and the smell is disgusting. I have been back and forth on getting an insert and finally caved when I had gotten one a few months ago.... I read so many bad reviews that I decided to not take it and just figured out the cause and once again, changed my routine. Well I can feel it coming back so before the itching became severe, I inserted the pill thing and was perfectly fine. I felt a severe itching but then the pill discharge started and it went away. I took the pill around 5:30-6pm... It is now 9:40pm and I'm feeling fine. Changed my panties and put a pad on and I'm. Getting ready to go to bed.

I'm not entirely sure I have a yeast infection...maybe in the initial stages? It smells weird when I pee..not fishy, just....weird. It burns a little when I pee but not much. It's more like a tingle. And I don't have any clumpy discharge. Just normal. I got the Monistat 1 use Ovule thing. How long does the Ovule take to work/dissolve? I've never had a yeast infection or any kind of infection "down there" before so I have no idea how any of this works.
ive been there girl and know you'r pain...............i got yeast infections often and would go to the dr and was tested for everything and they found nothing.....so then i started paying attention to what i ate and then realized i was dairy sensitive and backed off 90% of dairy intake and it has stopped the yeast infections and coldsores.( i never knew a coldsore Is Not always a herpes type virus sore a dr told me this.).Drs are finding out every day now that its also from being dairy sensitive or lactose intollerant and ingesting to much which causes yeast infections that also come in the form of dairy intollerance, some of us cannot digest lactose or dairy of any kind and so then the bacteria stays in our system and builds up till it causes issues like yeast infections, cold sores, fever blisters etc.....so its a very very good chance you are dairy sensitive, lactose intollerant whichever term ..... if you have an infection and use monistat 7 you will have faster results and feel more comfertable within 24-48 hours, normally a yeast infection or bladder infection or urinary tract infection takes 7-10 days to completely get rid of.IF you continue getting this infection or problem again or cant get rid of it the first try, then check your diet and slowly stop ingesting dairy. ( which is hard to do couse dairy is in almost all processed foods) if that doesnt seem to help then have your Gynocologist Dr. test you for different types of infections, then if the Dr still dont find anything; then go back to checking you'r dairy intake. you will find the problem eventually, just be patient. :) im no Dr. just been down that road and know the pain.....hope this helps. God Bless
A yeast infection is not bacterial...it is a fungal infection. This is why many women who are prescribed antibiotics to treat bacterial infections such as sinus infections tend to get yeast infections. The antibiotics tend to mess with the PH balance in the vagina making it easy for the fungus to grow.
I took Monistat 1 on Wednesday night. Didn't feel much until Thursday when most of the medicine had already worked its way out. I think by that time it was too late. The medicine had singed my skin away at the inside of my vagina lips. By a couple hours later I had blisters that burned like hell to pee. I was freaked so I went to urgent care and they gave me a calmoseptine cream to calm the burn. It helped but the actual reaction wasn't getting better. The next day I went to my family doctor desperate because my obgyn couldn't get me in. My doctor honest to God thought I had herpes. The sores and blisters were that bad. The inside of me is torn up. I finally had a steroid shot and some steroid pills and the reaction itself has stopped. Anyone know how long their actual healing process took? How long for sex, and tampons. I'm scared to do anything for a while, but just for some peace in mind. Its been a week and I'm just starting to feel better.
sympotoms of a yeast infection are similar to chlamidya, accept chlamidya is associated with irregular spotting. thats the major difference. also urinary tract infection can be associated with blood when you pee, but not from the other whole. i have had a yeast infection and a uti.
I also agree, I usually go for the 7 day treatment since I had tried the 3 day treatment once and it burned like CRAZY. I even went into the shower to try and get it out, but I fortunately caught my yeast infection early and I tried the 1 day this time and I was anticipating the burning feeling, but it never came. I assume it was because I wasn't scratching or rubbing down there. I suffer from recurrent yeast infections
Hi I am an RN, if you are atill feeling the buring with urination, you may have a UTI and therefor, it is more likely you have a bacterial (rather than fungal) vaginal infection. Monistat will not cure a bacterial infection. Go see your dr :)
Hi All
I think I got this yeast infection from missing my birth control and doubling up due to the missed pill and throwing those hormones outta wack, but I could have gotten it from the new type of condom we used or wet wipe I tried. the mystery continues.. lol. So here is the thing, I typically get a Vagisil Test Kit (15 bucks+), to see if the itching is a BV (BacterialVaginitis) or a yeast infection. Once i find out what the itching is (yeast infec.) Then I typically would go with Monistat 3 day(200mg) (21 bucks+), because the 1 day has such a high concentration (1200 mg) it reacts with some bodies poorly- but here is the thing, if I go onto my period while on the yeast infection and nature doesn't help "clear it up" I use another monistat 3 ovule (total of 4 days of treatment) thats just me. I also get on a strict regimine of minimizing my sugar intake, a broad spectrum probiotic and going to the vitamin store and purchasing candida cleansing garlic pills. I take the full strength of the recommended dose of vitamins. This helps my body, heal and stay balanced. Of course, i stay away from sex, tampoons and anything insertable (a given but I thought I would mention it). I hope that this helps some of you out there.
A yeast infection IS NOT bacterial it's fungal. You need a doctor to cure bacterial
I put in monistat 1 last night, doesnt hurt to pee anymore, but itchiness is worse..hoping it goes away soon, its horrible!
Yes I am experiencing that now. I've never had such a bad yeast infection. But I increased my water intake, using apple cider vinegar (a tablespoon in one glass of water per day) and taking a drop of oregano oil under the tongue once a day. It is taking a while and I still have slight burning itch at night. But it is lessening with each day. Also I am eating plain yogurt.
Omg! I kept having the feeling to use Benadryl but I didn't know why! I am goin to get some today!
