Hello everyone. I have not been on here in quite some time, but was going through my old posts and saw the dozens of posts from parents and individuals who are experiencing this with their own children or even experienced it as a child themselves. I can say, my daughter is now 8, and she rarely takes the time to pleasure herself, and when she does, she does it in private. At Age 5/6 she was still doing it quite a bit, and even at school. I worked with the teacher to give her a higher chair and have her sit near the teacher. This seemed to help a lot. The teacher also provided a stress ball type thing that she could play with if she felt the urge to do it in school. By first grade, she was not doing it much in school, that I knew of. But one day I was visiting her classroom and noticed her doing it when a lot of excitement was going on. She was 7 at this time. That evening we had a very long talk about what it is she is actually doing and what it is called..."masturbation". I explained to her that it is something that most everyone does, its just that most girls don't figure it out until they are much older. I explained that her friends would not understand and they may think she is weird for doing it at school. It is something she should only do in private, away from her friends, and even her family. Its a normal thing, but it makes other people uncomforble to see someone else doing it. Before that age, I do not think she was mature enough to get it or understand it. But at 7, she really seemed to understand what I meant. She is now 8 and in second grade, and she no longer does it at school and only does it in private at home, but rarely. So, eventually they do grow out of doing it all the time, but I do not think it will ever stop. I mean c'mon, for all of us...once we discovered the pleasure we could give ourselves, did it ever stop? She just had to realize its to be done in moderation and in private. She is old enough now, and knows the names of her "private parts", and I am very open (as open as I should be at her age), about the nature of masturbation.

I hope this can help some of you dealing with this. I know how frustrating it can be when it seems they won't stop for anything. But, you do need to remember not to shame them or tell them its bad. The act is not bad, just doing it publicly is bad. I had to remind her that other kids (boys and girls) may not understand and they might make fun of her. She does not want to be made fun of, so I think this was the big turning point for her.

I really think you should let her masturbate and record it and then you can sell it on the Internet and buy a newer trailer with you earnings :) also you can sell her for your old soiled panties on eBay to perverts and make a second make a second income unless you already have a job then this will make this your third and come :-)

I suggest punishing her in some kind of way whenever she does it, let her know its not ok to do it that much. I would agree with the doctor if it weren't getting worse and more frequent. It is normal for kids that age to be curious about their bodies and since she learned that it felt good she will obviously want to do it. Just tell her she can only do it once a day and if she does it any more she'll get in trouble. She's old enough to understand that she can't do it that much. I don't think you should be worrying as much as you are but it does sound like a problem. Just sit her down and talk to her about it

My four old girl does it too. My nine year old did it as well and grew out of it. She will only do it in private and is embarrassed if she is caught. I am not worried about it. I try not to stress about it.

My 5 and a half year old daughter just started touching herself and rubbing on things. I myself did the same at a very young age, under 3 years old. My mom made me feel horrible, and treated badly when I did rub on things. Because of that I have had many issues regarding sexual things growing up. I have told my daughter that when she touches her private areas, she needs to be in a private place ( such as her bedroom or bathroom) and I also tell her that it is a normal part of growing and learning. I never want to make her feel bad for exploring her body, because it is completely natural. If your Dr or Paediatrician isn't helpful in answering your questions and concerns, try going to a different Dr, and in my opinion a female Dr may be better suited to answer any questions or concerns you may have seeing as the nature of this issue. Also, try telling your daughter that it is ok to do what she's doing as long as it's done in private, and as long as she isn't hurting her private areas. Explain how sensitive it is down there and how gentle she needs to be so that she doesn't keep hurting herself. If she still continues to do it to the point of hurting herself, try getting her something softer than the chair she is using that is irritating her.

You shouldn't lie to her. She should do it, but only in private. If you discourage her from doing it you could cause problems for her now and later in life.

I am totally going through the same thing with my 5 yr old who is now too busy on her school chair to complete her school work. She doesnt yet understand to just do it i private but we just said this to her this week. She is plenty busy with friends and has always been..i dont think its about being occupied. This something I learnt with my daughter.

My daughter 6 year old and has a large clit. When she was a baby she would touch her self changing her diaper, but when i potty trained her she had easy access and would rub it all the time. So to stop her, I folded and rolled up a old bath towel and a cushion on the floor, on a waterproof mat. i took her underwear off so she can sit on the towel between her legs and lays on her front on the cushion, and let her move her hips back and forth so it rubs her clit.
