Hey Marshal thanks! The acid reflux is horrible.
Doc gave me Pariet which is a different drug but in the same family as Prilosec and it works well!

Marshal,
You're cracking me up with the humor! The part with the wife and the scab....TOO FUNNY!
But I hope you two are feeling much better today..
There IS light, it WILL pass. It usually takes about 2 full weeks to start feeling a little more normal. You both are almost there!!!
One hint..Drink water as much as possible, even if you have to force yourself..It makes the scabs wet and soft and causes less pain. And that really helps when they fall off..Otherwise they will be hard and really groce..Also when they are moist they don't "PULL" on the sides of your throat so much when you yawn and things like that..It makes it a little easier..
Anyway...GOOD LUCK!!

Thursday - post op day # 14
HEY IT'S BEEN TWO WEEKS SINCE MY OPERATION!
First off, Happy Birthday Agapolish! I hope you get your wish and be as pain free as possible.
Agopolish, bhalligan32 advice about water is right on the money - the more you drink, the better you feel. I believe what got me thru that nasty throat phase, was my constant hydration with water. It kept every thing lubed up in there.
The scabs, yeah their disgusting. Chunky thick clumps of mucus. Their taste is best not described. Cough 'em, hack 'em do whatever it takes to get them up (or down). Food works pretty good for this job. I had about a solid week of that madness.
And they seem to appear at the most in-opportune time.
My problems which led me to this surgery were more complex then the average. I have sleep apnea compounded with severe insomnia. If left to my own devices, I can stay up for days. Which is crazy!
I was (am) on sleep medication for years, then I was diagnosed with sleep apnea and sleeping pills became a no-no.
So I'm kind of stuck between a rock and hard place with this one.
So I picked the one that would kill me the quickest to work on first, so here I am - 14 days and feeling better each day.
Oh I still have a sore throat. And I don't fore see myself eating a steak like I use to tomorrow, but I could if I really wanted to chew forever to get it down.
My sense of taste is still kind of shot and I still am sensitive to certain flavors. I still wake up in the morning with a thick coat lining my throat that I have to hack up for about a minute or two when I get up, and the ear pain still comes and goes.
If you had told me 10 days ago that I would be feeling like I do today, I would have squeaked out a small laugh then told you to get out of the room.
But hey, I guess its true what they say - that given time, all things do past. Make no mistake; I'm not out of the woods yet. I go see my ENT on Monday. Hopefully the news is good.
The soreness is pretty much just an irritation now. That is until I get a little carried away with swallowing food, then I'm QUICKLY reminded that I had surgery in there a few weeks ago. That pain has a way of bring reality back down to you.
So in other words, no news is good news. Again Agapolish, I hope you really do start to feel better.
I found this pic on the web while surfing one night in full on insomnia mode. I hope it can cheer you up.

Until next time............

Argh!!! I have arachnophobia!!! That thing is so horrible! I hate those Huntsman spiders.
Thanks for the Birthday wishes!
Day 16: (Friday)
A slight improvement today pain wise. Very similarly to you Marshal my throat still hurts. I am thinking that the uvula is a tiny bit smaller but still quite big. Still got white gunk in there.
I have had no sign if scabs coming out or anything. If the white stuff is still there are they still to come?
Taste is also a problem, I remember last Friday I had tried a hot dog sausage (vienesse frankfurt) and it tasted disgusting, so salty. Today raw cabbage kinda stung my throat. It seems that it will be quite a while before I can eat normally again. :-(

Arachnophobia?! DOH!!! Sorry.
Friday – post op day # 15
I did pretty much nothing today. Popped into my work to ‘snap’ those puppies back in line in preparation for my return on Monday. I’ve been gone 2 ½ weeks for this thing. WOW!
Woke up feeling pretty good today. Didn’t have any real out of control pain, just the usual soreness.
Took a peek at the gullet. Things are still looking good. I’ve got very few white patches left – but their still there.
Agopolish I did notice my two holes (more like pits) like yours. I use to get food trapped in them also, but early on I got into the habit of gargling with warm salt water after each meal and that pretty much eliminated that problem. Gargling also helps free up the mucus back there and promotes healing.
You might not have noticed your scabs when they formed. They don’t look like traditional scabs, but rather those born in a constant moist environment. They appear as thick – sometimes congealed firm mucus. So you might have been spitting or coughing them up all along – or even more likely swallowing them (blahgh!) in your sleep or with meals.
I did notice moments of intense pain before I shed one however.
My uvula is almost back to normal size – just slightly reddish.
The back of my tongue isn’t quite up to speed. I don’t notice it unless I’ve been wearing my voice out for awhile, then I notice I will pronounce certain vowel sounds incorrectly.
As far as medication - I'm down to regular over the counter Tylenol. So that's a good thing.
Other than that, things seem to be looking up.
Like I said before, certain ‘flavors’ and seasonings still drive me crazy. Although grape flavor has gotten better (yea!). It’s now cherry that burns my salivary glands. Go figure.
Hey, I had a small cheese steak for dinner tonight. Wasn’t as painful, but then again I’m still chewing like a mad man – so who knows.
I think I might have been traumatized from the procedure. I might suffer from ‘Post traumatic swallowing disorder’. Suffers chew whatever they eat until it turns to paste ensuring that they don’t feel the stab they did when they first ate or drank something post their tonsillectomy surgery.
I wonder if there is a support group.
Later.

Hi Marshall and Agopolish,
This was a great post.
I'm not sure you will even see this a year later, but I am seriously reconsidering after reading this.
I am in a similar situation with severe sleep apnea and so a tonsillectomy is being recommended.
A year later, looking back, would you say it was worth it?
Or would have not gone through it if you would have known what you had to go through?
