Good Day all,

Im a 29 years old African lady, 4 month ago I weighed 1118.5kg, Im 1.72m tall NOW IM 98.8KG and it feels great to be under 100kgs ... I decided to start with duromine 4months ago on 15mg for the 1st month then 30 mg afterwards, Losing weight for me has been nthing else but a choice and I decided to take it serious. I did an introspection of why it failed before, and only reason that came to mind is that Im still in denial and not ready for that change. I decided to write a journal about the whole experience, starting with why I allowed myself to get to this weight, it was so therapeutic, I blamed stress, genes, affordability/lifestyle etc but what knocked me hard is that I did this to myself because I got too comfortable and always had an excuse for it. At the end of the day, no matter how well I dress up for this divalicious body of mine, I’m the only one who gets embarrassed when I undress or go to the fitting room, worse going to donnaclaire at my age, but you know what, I had to start somewhere. The list is long... but I believe If one really wants to lose weight, introspection is important, and you have to do it for yourself and no1 else. I stayed off duromine December, the most difficult time that we think we can’t cope with all the food, I made a choice not to go back, and a change had to come from within. Instead of finishing a box of Romany creams at once, I'd take 2-3biscuit once a week, its just a craving and must be satisfied and one needs to know when to say no to food. Before I eat anything, I ask myself if I’m hungry or not, that helped me a lot. You see with right state of mind duromine works.

Now the gym, not going to be long... 1st day I hit that 118.5kg, it was a shock, I hate the gym but the next day I decided to wakeup 5am and go to the gym, on my way back from the gym, I asked myself 1 question, what worse could have ever happened to me? Nothing, I didn't die from 30min brisk walk at the gym, just from that, I knew nothing could ever kill me. It's 4months now, I still hate the gym, but I made a commitment to changing ME, and that's what it take, 3 times a week, that's all I do. I never go on starvation, I eat 1 full meal lunch time, and small portions/fruits nuts etc throughout the day and a shake before I go to bed.

I would love to meet people from cape town, just to chat about weight and emotionally support each other, especially ladies, and those who are ready ofcourse. Please leave me your E:mail address I'll definetly keep intouch.... this is possible, lets start now! love you all and good luck to that goal weight.

Hi,
I have been on duromine off an on for years now. The first time I went on it I lost 17kg in 3 months. I kept it off for a while and then when I moved back to NZ, I put it all back on plus more. I am 35, 165cm and 100kg. I work full time and study full time and have a teenage daughter and the energy i get from being on the duromine helps me to get everything done that needs doing.
I do get a dry mouth but it encourages you to drink more water. I still try to eat my 3 meals a day, however I wasn't hungry tonight so just had a diet shake as this fills me up. I work out at the gym 4 times a week, 30 mins of cardio and then light weights afterwards. I started back on the tablets only yesterday and weighed in this morning at 5am and was 1kg heavier. I will give it a few days for it to full kick in but am hoping to get down at least 10-15kg in a few months but hoping that it comes from a mix of the exercise and the tablets.
I also quit smoking coming up 2 years ago and piled the weight on after that. Make sure you drink the water, exercise (even if it's a half hour walk everyday) and make sure you actually eat otherwise your body will kick into starvation mode which will be worse for you when you come off the tablets.

Good Luck.

Hi Joan

Please can you tell me where in South Africa you have been able to get hold of the 40mg. My doctor prescribed the 30mg and i have been on it for 2 weeks and lost nothing. I asked him for the 40mg and he said there isnt a 40mg.

it seems alot of people around the 100kg mark are using the 40mg and that seems to work.

Please help me get hold of the 40mg.

thanks Guest

Hey everybody.

I had posted a reply about 5 months ago with my starting weight being 105kg.

I'm so happy to say I've lost 15kg in 5 months. I cannot believe the results.

I'm also very fortunate to have had no side effects to the drug (besides a loss of apetite).

Reading through the thread, I find it bizzare that people are having such shocking side effects but I guess it boils down to everyone individually.

In summary, I suggest everyone to give it a go and stick to it. It's changed my life.

I started 5 weeks ago with 30mg of duromine evry 2nd day. My throat is constantly dry and in the morning I could snap my tongue in half, other than that, I have no negative side effects despite being told by doctors that it was a bad idea because of my antidepressants. In the first 3 weeks I lost 11kgs and then increased duromine to 40mg daily. The last two weeks have seen only a half kilo loss. I am panicking as I only eat three meals a day and my clothes seem loose but the numbers appear to have stopped moving. Is there anyone else out there that has experienced the same and if so, did it pick up again. I have a lot of weight that i want to lose and if this doesnt I will have to consider surgery but I really want this to work :( depressed.

Hi there,
Ive been taking 40mg duramine for 5 months now, I have lost 22kilos but I've also worked my ass off working out and eating well, plus heaps of water.
I've lapsed in a couple of weeks eating some crappy (yet tasty) food, so time to get back on track.
I love the energy that duramine gives me, and of course the weight loss is great for me, but I do suffer from mood swings since I started it and from time to time feel a little anxious, paranoid and flighty.
I'm thinking about giving it a miss every few days and then in the next month or so stop taking it completely.

good luck with your journey, thanks for sharing :)

Hey everyone :) I started duromine yesterday for the first time. I am 160cm tall and 93kg. I have been prescribed the 30mg tablets. I didn't take one today because I felt like absolute rubbish all day yesterday! My heart was beating so fast (well, it felt so fast! I checked it in the morning a couple of hours after I took it and my heart rate was 128bpm). I didn't experience dehydration (however I kept myself well hydrated because I read about that), I felt like I got the flu (and still do): aching body, coughing, blowing my nose, head aches, I could not concentrate at work for long periods of time, I was also nauseous (I did vomit- 4 times), however I did sleep. Interrupted sleep, however. I think I woke up about twice an hour but I fell back asleep very fast. I woke up in hot sweats and then took the blankets off and froze immediately. I don't know if I have just fallen ill the same time as taking this drug and it's just a coincidence or if these are my side affects. I'm feeling much better today, however still flu-like. Has anyone else felt like this? It's wednesday today. I am thinking about trying again on Saturday when I'm at home with my family. Would love some feedback? Thanks :)

Hi!

Not sure if anyone ever replied to you - just wanted to see how you were going?

I have been on the pill for about 3 months now and have lost a lot of weight. I have heard that if you suffer from anxiety you can get the side effects that you have explained. I would really suggest that if you can stay on it until you reach your goal weight. Maybe you should have also asked your doctor to start you on a lower dose (15mg) and work your way up to the higher doses.
