Since my last post, we have installed security camera's all around the exterior of the house, which the local Deputy Chief of Police thought was a great idea as the screaming kids dad has now shown some behavior as stalking /harassing us. The DCOP recently advised me and my family to think about starting the process of having an officer confront the neighbor and ask him to stop the "unwanted behavior" or its it continues, things can go much worse for him. Obviously, we will press charges on this guy if the cameras pick up anything. Already shown him peeping through the fence at night trying to look into our house (wonder if his bizarre hippie wife knows that?)
Yes, I know, the police you are probably asking yourself as that seems a little extreme. One might ask how did they get pulled into this over kids screaming over the first place. Long, long story.
Last spring, I received a phone call from the DCOP stating the neighbor had called the department complaining about "the neighbor who hated the sound of children playing and laughing in their back yard". He couldn't believe what he was reading as to who could be such a "horrible woman", felt he had to talk to this person (me) instead of handing it off to one of his officers which would be standard procedure. So, we spoke and he then checked in with other neighbors surrounding this tenants rental to find out what was actually going on. After obtaining further insight, he then contacted the mother/complainer (dad doesn't speak English/from South America), I'll paraphrase here, "THEY were the problem, not the neighbors" to which she didn't like hearing...side note here, these people rent, not own, and if they don't like how they're neighbors all around them are "not welcoming", then move. It's that easy, but they are wanting to come off as "the victims".
Most recently, the mother, who is a part-time art teacher at a private elementary school, told her 3 1/2 year old son to go outside at approx 8:30 am and scream at the top of his lungs, "F**K IT F**K IT" , over and over and then scream for as loud and as long as he could. Then the camera picked up the sound of her telling him in Spanish to come back inside the house, then to peak back outside and look towards our place. All of this was caught on one of security camera's. And she's a teacher? Wonder what the parents who pay private tuition to this school would think about this person being around their child and what influence would she be. Sorry...just thinking out loud here.
So, we now have this mother and father with two small boys living in a rental that many have commented that it looks like a "slumlord" owns it. We've spoken to the owners who live in California and they're basically just wanting the money and could care less who pays rent, just as long as they pay it.
Last week, one of the elderly neighbors who lives a few blocks away, stopped and started up a conversation while my husband and I were outside picking up leaves. He was shocked to find out that there was a man who lived in the rental and he couldn't even bother to take the trash cans in off the street. Place looks bad, they never take care of it. Dad just sits in the house all day and gets on the computer, smokes pot, and someone told me he works as a dishwasher at one of the restaurants.
One of the neighbors asked him to quiet down his kids as she was trying to get her grandson to sleep. His response: get his two little brats to scream at the top of their lungs and then guess what? HE then started screaming at the top of his lungs. This family is not liked at all in our neighborhood, want to act like their the victims, calling neighbors "racists" because her husband and children are from South America, etc. Crazy people out there!

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone has any advice please. My mum has lived in her house for over 30 years and we have never had a problem with our neighbours being noisy, until about 2 years ago. The walls seem to be paper thin and we can hear everything, from him swearing at his kids, his tv programs, to him letting them run up and down on their wooden floor for hours. My mum has been and knocked numberous times about the noise and it seemed to stop for a little while but the noise is starting again. Tonight his children where running up and down until 23:20pm and screaming while he shouts. We wouldn't normally be too bothered about the noise, however everyone is up early for work and my younger brother and sister are up for school. I don't know what more we can do as he own his house and mums in rented? Anyone have any suggestions? I have tried the council but they say nothing can be done as he owns his house.

Ur spot on ther lol. I didnt become a parent musrlf until 27 and i had loadz ov opinions on parenting but i kept them to myself n by god im glad i did bcos my 4yr old daughter is hardwork at home but excellent at school. But her brother my stepson age 15 now has always been good at home but hardwork for school. Some people can hav 1 child who is hard wprk out ov all ther children so it annoys me how it can be blamed on family life. I do agree that my partner gives in to her n gives her anything she wants even if he went to shop with only milk money she would get what she wants while he returns with no milk like hes scared of her or something n i admit thats the only thing we argue about so when he n i are together she plays up bcos he tries to stick to my rules but sje wil not hav any of it. I feel like hes my problem n not her

I live in a terraced house which is beautiful both inside and out. About 9 months ago a woman and her Autistic 28 year old son moved in next door. He screams and shouts for hours and hours. I can hear it over my Television in the evening which demonstrates how loud he is. It's making my life a complete misery and one evening it got so bad that I went and knocked on the door. The mother opened the door and I said: "can you please tell him to stop shouting because you are making my life a misery" She slammed the door in my face without a word and 10 minutes later I had her daughter hammering on my door accusing me of upsetting her mother!.! I have hundreds of recordings of the noise and been in touch with my local councils Environmental Health team and they refuse to do anything because he is disabled!! The Environmental Health officer sent me an email today suggesting that I wear earplugs!! Seriously

Maybe YOU should try and have some more consideration for other folks ! Indeed some of these children are BRATS indeed and need a darn good smack round the A ! That's what missing nowadays with a lot of children....Stop being so self righteous of yourself and try and UNDERSTAND why this poster is even calling the nextdoor BRAT a BRAT !!!

My father in law once had a new neighbor who tied his dog out next to the property line. The poor dog spent his day barking and bugging the sh*t out of my FIL. My wife gave him a box of dog bones and told him to use them to make friends with the dog. Soon the dog and FIL were best friends and no more constant barking.
Perhaps milk and cookies would work on the kids.
