I am 46 and have always had very regular and normal periods. Several months ago I had no period for 7 1/2 weeks. It was awesone. Then I started spotting. Very lightly. After 6 weeks or so it got heavier but still lighter than a regular period. No hot flashes so far. My only real complaint was a lack of energy and the annoyance of non-stop bleeding. When complaining to an older friend one day she recommended taking Soy Isoflavones. After taking iron supplements and the soy for about 6 days my energy returned and the bleeding had stopped. It has been about a month now and the only spotting I have had was almost un-noticible and only lasted for a few hours and it only happened when I didn't take the soy for about a day and a half. I haven't discussed all of this with a doctor yet so I'm not sure that it is a safe, long term solution but it is a very nice relief! I recommend Googling Soy Isoflavones. It turns to estrogen in the body I think. And it is at least a natural product.
omg are you telling me I have had a slimy discharge and bleeding and I mean heavy for four months straight now and with such painful cramps for four months also heavy clotting bleeds I used the ladies room in the morning one day and was just standing up to pull up my pants and at least a cup of blood came out of me at once the bathroom looked like a crime scene was disgusting ready to hit myself in the head with a hatchet it is maddening like water torture
Hello there, i have been through hell that last 8m months because of progesterone supplement. I was given Northisterone to stop bleeding and each withdrawal is like a haemorrage and i end up in hospital on the cusp of a blood transfusion. I am still in shock, as the last time I lost so much blood, my blood pressure so quickly that i was sick and fainted and banged my head. I am still recovering, but have refused any more progesterone. I dont know what the future holds but i cannot take the hormones any more. I am perimenopausal, 54 and a half, with enlarged womb and fibroids. How are you getting on now?
I've been having super heavy and very painful periods for many years now, but recently I missed 2 periods and now I've been bleeding for 2 months straight non-stop with no sign of it stopping any time soon. I feel extremely weak. I have a cyst in each ovary plus a fibroid that seems to be growing. Im taking iron, but I am still feeling like I am going to die. I get a really bad headache every day. I feel like if my head is too heavy for my neck. I feel very depressed and my heart feels like it wants to pop out of my chest. If I walk from my living room to my kitchen, I feel like I can't breath and my leg muscles start to hurt. Help! Anyone else feel this way?
Hi Guest,
I see you commented 2 months ago, so I hope and pray that your period has ended. I too have been experiencing heavy bleeding and if I miss a month, the next month it is as though it's making up for the month missed. I'm been bleeding heaving for 17 days, have a nagging headache, have been taking iron daily, probably should double up. I have red that red raspberry herbal capsules helps with heavy bleeding, just hope there are no side effects taking this. It seems to help but has not stopped the bleeding, the flow is lighter, no sure if it's from the red raspberry or if the bleeding was decreasing anyway. You never mention visiting your doctor, I would just to make sure that you are not losing too much blood. The first time this happen where I bleed for a month was last year and my dr. recommended a blood transfusion (especially if you feel dizzy or light headed). But I refused, as long as I'm up and walking I can get through this and I must trust that God will not allow anything on me that i can't handle. I birthed two nine pound babies with a very small frame so this too shall pass.
Hang in there, I know it's hard, try not to be depressed, get a lot of rest and stay hydrated, stay cool as possible. stay out of the sun and hot ovens around this time, wishing you well.

Hi I have been bleeding heavy for the last four weeks..Gyn did biopsy and ultrasound. No cancer; however i did have small fibroids. My Dr. offered IUD to stop bleeding but I declined. I had a bad experience with IUD in past. I asked Dr. was all this bleeding normal she said yes because Im premenopausal
I have you beat! I started mid August and as of mid November I am still going. September was super heavy but it started tapering off in late October. Thyroid and whatever else she tested for was normal so now I am waiting for the ultrasound to check for fibroids. Mother Nature sucks right now. I am 49.
Hi everyone I'm Jennifer and I'm on day 40 of hemorrhaging. I've had a normal cycle forever, it started decreasing significantly last year and then just disappeared in January 2021. Nothing for 3 months then my cycle came. And never stopped. After 10 days I had labs drawn and my MHCH was low; Ferritin was 8 (the low end of the range is 10 and I was struggling with energy). I also had low alkaline phosp + low T3 which presents like hypothyroid but it's from low iron because I know I"m not hypothyroid. Hemoglobin was on the lower end but why wait till that's depleted! Went to my Gyno we did an ultrasound (endometrial hyperplasia 11cm; no fibroids) and biopsy (benign). My only options from the first Gyno was hormones (I've had a bad history with them), IUD, ablation or hysterectomy. I wasn't aligned with any of those choices so I got a second opinion and another Gyno who thankfully prescribed Tranexamic acid (650mg) 3x/day. She said they use it in Europe for menorrhagia. It was pretty expensive $68 for 5 days worth and I just started today (but honestly if it wills to the bleeding before vacation, it's well worth it!). I have a mild headache and my back is sore but I'm hoping things resolve. I think it contraindicates with birth control so I'm glad I'm not on it. My other gyno didn't know about it, I'm glad I went for a second opinion because we almost cancelled our beach trip. Hoping it works!!! I reviewed the research and it sounds promising. I spoke with the pharmacy to make sure I could still take my iron pills and considered getting iron infusions but it's only 250mg in a bag and I didn't want to sit for 3-4 hours with an IV drip. Maybe if things were worse I would have but for now I'm doing elemental iron with clementines or vitamin C rich foods for max absorption. And btw, I'm a dietitian so I know how to work with food for maximizing absorption :)
I was taken off BC in Aug of 2020 to “see if I’m menopausal”. I’m 51 now and started on BC in 1993 just before I was married. My periods came normally for 2 mos and then October began a week of an extremely painful and beyond heavy period. I cried and went through several baths and outfits a day. Although time between fluctuated from 1 week to 5 weeks, the intensity and pain was the same for Nov-May 2021. Due to a change in jobs we moved to a new town during this time. And 3 days after my 51st birthday I began bleeding and did not stop. I was walking through Winn Dixie in the town we had just moved to and suddenly felt like I was peeing on myself. I stopped and panicked. The more I moved the worse it became and began running down my legs. I could only grab my purse and run to my car. I thought, oh great! New town and I’ve just lost control of my bladder in public. I was so embarrassed but even more so when I realized it was blood. Through my jeans. Everywhere. I was mortified and don’t go to that store anymore. I drive across town now. I thought it was just a period and bathed, put on a pad and settled in for the cramps. But by mid July I was still flowing. And not just flowing, clotting and passing golf ball sized tissue into the toilet and my pad. Lots of them. It feels like a reverse swallow down there when one passes. It makes me nauseous, the way it feels. During our July vacay I ended up in the ER due to a severe kidney infection. Never had one before. I can only imagine that between the blood, and the fact that I get diarrhea every time I have a period, that even though I am very clean down there, the hot mess of fluids coming out of my body cross contaminated and caused the infection. I finally got in to see a gyn in our new town and tests are clear so she gave me progesterone to stop it Aug 1-10. It stopped on days 4-11 and began again on day 12. So I’m bleeding again and have a headache and low back pain and cramps (like back labor). My husband is very understanding and extremely concerned and all I can tell him is I’m hearing is this is normal in menopause. I take iron every other day because if I take it daily I have even more severe diarrhea.
I’ve asked all of my female relatives about their menopause experiences and they all had hysterectomies and never had to deal with it so I have no family history to know if this is normal. I have another doc appt coming up. I feel helpless.
