I am having the same symptoms. I am 28 weeks pregnant and right below my left boob I am having a burning, rash like feeling with an occasional shooting pain. My doctor mentioned to me it could be gas, but I am very doubtful now. I feel like it is more of a skin issue then internal. If anyone finds out what causes this, I would appreciate an explanation. Good luck to you all!
I am 32 weeks pregnant and had the same problem on and off for a while. Lately I noticed its here to stay. It use to be just a numbness but now its an invisble rash; it burns a little. I did talk to my doctor about it, and she didnt seemed bothered by it at all. It is caused by stretched nervous and muscles, its completely normal and I wouldn't stress about it. My best advice is to sit up straight, thats what helps with me.
I had that massive pain right under my ribs in the middle of the belly, it was stabbing like pain and then burning, especially when i laugh or bend down to pick smth up or put shoes on. It was just in that spot to start with but then spread a little more down over the belly, like half way to the belly button. It's been for 2-3 weeks now. i am 36 weeks pregnant now. For the last 2 days it has kind of gone, but all that area feels numb. i still have sensation there, but it's more like the vague kind of sensation you get in your arm, after it was numb and goes back to normal, with a hint of pins and needles. It feels like circulation been cut off to that part of the belly. I do feel when bub is kicking in that spot.
When I saw my doctor two weeks ago, he said it must be just a muscular pain, as all the organs seem fine, he did a few tests, pressing in various parts on rib cage and said of that was liver or any other internal organ those pressure points would have triggered more pain, but they didn't. So he couldn't explain it. i am having ultrasound in two days, i will certainly ask doctor to have a look if everything is fine. And will ask my obs again.

I am 37 weeks pregnant and having the same problem for the last 4 weeks, a really unconfortable numbness/burning feeling under the lower right side of my ribs which is mostly present while sitting or laying down, and it stops when I stand up, walk etc...
I asked my midwife and she said that it could be one of the following:
1. The stretching of skin that causes pressure on the nerves and cause this numbness.
2. The baby is constantly "hitting" on the same area, which causes a sort of injure on the inner wall.
3. The location of the placenta and the high blood flow in it, causes a reduction on the blood flow on the skin layers which at the same time causes a feeling of numbness
I hope it helps minimum to have an idea of what's going on, my midwife gave me a homeopathic ointment but I actually feel no improvement with it. What helps me to reduce this feeling is to take a cold piece (i.e. metal) and lay it over the affected area.
I am getting a little crazy because of this plus constantly standing up to go to the loo is taking over my sleep! +_+
good luck everyone!

I myself have felt this. I am only 14 weeks and about 2 days ago on the right side of my belly button I feel this really weird feeling (feels like an electrical shock) and then the area around my belly button goes numb. I called my OB because I didn't know what it could be caused from and it kinda freaked me out because I didn't experience this with my other 2 pregnancies. Well My doctor said it's normal it's caused from the growing of the uterus and all the nerve endings. He said it's more common in multiple pregnancies.
I am almost 36 weeks and have had this sensation for some time now that my doctor could not explain. I am a nurse and so all these horrible visions went through my head of what it could be. After seeing so many of us with the same symptom on the abdomen and describing it as a superficial numb spot, I call mine tender, I am convinced its from stretching. Think how large are bellies are being stretched, even if you were a little heave pre preg, now it's all hard and strtched out. Rest assured, at this I am, that this is just another annoying part of pregnancy. And too soon will be replaced with a beautiful crying baby, and smelly diapers, you'll long for the day!
good luck to all!

I have this numbness too. I'm 31 weeks pregnant and I've had some pain in the area you describe for a few months now. I went to the doctor and he said it was my ribs adjusting. Lately the pain has got worse and feels like a stinging, burning sensation and the skin is numb. This is all happening just below my right breast and spans from the middle of my chest across my right side. I have also experienced the numbness faintly in my chin and lower lip. I have called the midwife and she told me it sounds like a muscular problem and suggested it was related to my job (sitting behind a desk in the same position for too long) and suggested I get up and walk around every 15 to 20 mins. I hope this helps because it has got so bad its reduced me to tears this evening!
I have a large numb spot in the center of my abdomen right under my breasts. I'm 34 wks and it's been there for well over a month. My doctor told me that it happens during the stretching - sometimes nerves break or stretch so much they go numb and that it's nothing to worry about.
I started getting horribly sharp pains there when I would move the wrong way (usually while sleeping) before it went numb. Now I'm getting the same stabbing pain just to the right so I expect that to go numb soon too.

I am 30 weeks and for a week now have had the same numb spot above my uterus. I too feel like someone rubbed tiger balm on this spot on my stomach. It is becoming painful and bothersome. I have not spoken to the doctor about it yet. I am going to call tomorrow.
I also had a numb spot under my right breast during my second pregnancy. Then I got it again with my third pregnancy and this time it won't go away. It's been almost 12 weeks since I gave birth. I am going to see a Neurologist to find out what is wrong.
This by far has been the most helpful information that I have found. I had searched and searched to no avail. Very glad to know I am not the only one going through this. I do wish that the medical community would give more information on this if so many of us are going through the numbness and stinging and tingling. Or at least come up with something that helps. I am 29 weeks tomorrow and have been having all the symptoms at least for the last 2 months with it progressively getting worse. Thanks to all the moms that have given their info.
I have had the exact same thing since about week 20 of my pregnancy. A burning sensation and numbness under my left breast. It's not the ribs, but it feels more like the area is swollen and sore when you touch it and sometimes you get a stabbing sensation when you move. I haven't asked my midwife about what it is, but having done some research online it's where the placenta is located and it could be pushing on the internal organs and nerves because of the lack of space in there. I'm now 40 weeks pregnant and am just hoping the pain will go away once the baby is born. The worrying thing is that my baby isn't moving as much as she usually does since the pain got worse a few days ago. I hope she's ok.
This forum has been great reassurance though as I struggled to find any information about this anywhere else online.
Thanks,
Jenny

hi, im 31weeks pregnant, and have experienced a numbness below my chest, but right the way across, like when you have been to the dentist after the injection and your face is numb, i would say its almost the same feeling. The burning and pain does come and go, but the numbness is constant. I brought this up with my midwife yesterday, and she said it is due to where the baby keeps kicking and keeps his feet, also where the stomach muscles have torn, this is likely to cause numbness, hope this helps you all, and puts your minds at ease, i know my midwife helped me out.
Good Luck to everyone, and hope this helps.

I'm 26 weeks and I have the same symptoms! I'm going to mention it to my doctor at my next appointment. My baby boy has been moving regularly and I was told he appeared healthy and normal on my ultra sound. The right side of my stomach is just numb. I've pinched it and felt nothing!! Should I be worried?? Or are my muscles and nerves just stretching?
THANKS!!
THANKS!!
I am almost 31 weeks, and have been having burning pain in a localized area at the top of my stomach for weeks now, and mentioned it to my obstetrician today. She said it is a result of nerves stretching, and unfortunately, there is nothing to be done for relief. When Baby is born, it should go away. She said that when they do C-sections, they can actually see the stretched nerves, and said that it always seems to be that same spot just at the top of the baby bump. Hope that helps some of you!
