I'm 23 weeks pregnant and I've been having the same issue. I have numbness on my right side, under my breast. Sometimes it's so severe that I can't sleep. I've tried putting pillows under my back, or my breast to try to alleviate the pain...but nothing really works.

I am not pregnant (at least I don't think I am) and I have the same thing. It happened to me with my first and only child but I have been feeling it again for the last couple weeks. But I dunno. I had an early period this month, five days early. It was lighter then usual but the cramps were worse then ever, and now my boobs keep getting this stinging sensation but not tenderness like I would usually have during my period and definitely not like it was when I was pregnant.

I am wondering if the sensation of the ribs feeling numb and "jabbing" or "stinging" has anything to do with being pregnant. When I brought it up with my baby doctor when I was pregnant, she said it was a sign that I had water in my liver... something like this. Sorry I cannot remember exactly what it was. It was four years ago.

Anyways, they took an xray and it turned out that I did. They didn't do anything to treat it though. It was just something that I had to deal with and my baby was fine and I was fine. So now I am confused because I feel it again and wondering if I could actually be pregnant or if there is something more sinister going on.

I have had the numbless and tingling for about a week now. I am 36 weeks into my second pregnancy. It is caused by the muscles moving and shifting to make room for your growing uterus. There is no cure for it either. But sometimes a warm bath, or rubbing warm hands on your stomach can ease it. Call your doctor is you can't feel the baby moving during it though. I called my doctor the first time I felt the tingling because it lasted for just a minute, then faded, then came back, and I was wondering if it was early contractions. He laughed and promised that it is common and occures in roughly 80% of pregnancies. I joked back and said it should be in books then. He assured the only time to worry about it is if it becomes an issue and I'm unable to sleep with it, if I can no longer feel my baby's movements, or if I get dizzy or ill with it. Keep in mind that your blood also things during pregnancy, and this can cause for different parts of your body to feel the same sensation as your foot would if it were to "fall asleep". I have the feelings in my stomach, abs, lower pelvic area, and right below my breasts. My doctor also mentioned that if you feel light headed, have any bleeding, and so on, that to call is the only way to ensure anything. And I promise you ladies, no doctor can answer "stupid" questions. If anything concerns you, call. Your doctor works for you and for your baby.

Very helpful to know. I'm 25 weeks and have had numbness, tingling, and itching just below my bra line in a small circle on the center of my stomach for the last few days. Also have severe pains on my right side just under my shoulder blade and laterals back to my spine for last few weeks. Thinking it had to do with my frame expanding, but plan to call my doctor on Monday just to be sure.

I am so glad to have found this forum, I'm 28 weeks pregnant now and I've had this pain/numbness/burning sensation just left of my belly button twice in a couple of weeks lasting a first time, I put loads of Sudocreme on last time and it went away but it came back I tried Sudocreme again but it hasn't worked this time. I was more worried I'd damaged myself rather than my baby as he has been moving around loads as usual and doesn't seem affected by it in the slightest. It's almost a relief if when he's having a dance and he kicks or pushes it, similar idea to having toothache and biting down on something. I will bring it up at my next appointment just to see if there is anything to be one.
Thank you all xxx

I have this same issue, a burning yet numb sensation under my right breast above where my uterus is, i brought it up to my dr. and my mom they both said its most likely the way the baby is positioned, she may be pressing on a nerve.. i wouldnt worry about it too much

Hello :-) I am 31 weeks pregnant

I have been having the same problem but it's all over my stomach.

I went to the doc today and they explained to me what was going on. What happens when your stomach expands is all the little nerves in the surface of your skin get pulled taught and stretch. Sometimes these nerves will get so stretched, that they sever, or they stop transmitting signals. This is not a permanent condition. Stretch injuries to nerves heal relatively quickly, and as soon as you have your baby you should get the feeling back in your tummy as the swelling goes down.

The backfire to this for me personally is that the surface of my skin right above where the damage is, feels rather like a sun burn (though it's not red or anything) becuase all the nerve signals stop there. Annoying and tender, but hey! At least it's normal XD

Hi, I'm 32 weeks and I have had this same feeling for about a week, I went to the dr today and she told me the something as the reader above it is the nerve that is stretching. It is very painful and super tender to the touch normally you will feel it more on the right side of your belly on the top. I feel like I'm on fire or being burned alive... And as if a tiger is tearing me up inside under my skin.
I do feel better knowing I'm not in any danger and neither is my baby. This wil go away after the delivery. She diagnosed it as Parenthesia.

I feel so much better knowing that I am not the only one experiencing this! I was totally freaking out thinking something was wrong but seeing that so many other people have the same EXACT thing happening to them is reassuring. I was kind of already thinking that it might just be from the ribs/muscles stretching or from the baby being positioned in a certain way that is putting pressure on a nerve causing the numbness, so reading through and learning that some of you had asked your OB about it and they came to the same conclusion confirms my suspicion! Now I can relax about this, thanks everyone!

Hello everyone . i have been having the same problems with numbness and tingling across the whole of my abdomen at varying degrees of numbness and occasional pain/discomfort . i discussed it with my consultant who suggested it was nothing to worry about as it was just nerves stretching around the uterus as it expands and the pressure from the baby , he did a series of tests and found nothing untoward and no exact cause but reassured me it was not worth worry . hope this helps xx

I have had the same feeling but am not worried about it because I was warned in advance that it can sometimes happen due to the baby pushing on the ribs. At first it felt like it was right under my heart but my baby did a big move and after a few days it stopped tingling on that side. Now for the past couple weeks the pain has been on the other side. I'm at 37 weeks. It's been pushing so much now on this side that I am starting to get an itchy kind of feeling under my lower ribs. I've been told it's normal, nothing to worry about.

I have the exact same symptoms! Extreme pain/burning/numbness just under my ribs on the right side of my abdomen. It gets to be so intense that it bring me to tears at times. I, however, have experienced it for most of my pregnancy (I'm currently 37 weeks) and every single physician I've seen have not been able to explain it. They all just brush it off as a "normal pregnancy symptom". HA! The only glimpse of an answer I received recently was that it was possibly my gall bladder getting squished from being so petite and might need to be removed a couple weeks after delivery. This was just a suggestion with no hard proof though. It's awful pain and very frustrating not to receive answers.

I have also been having numb sensation and some pain on my left side above my belly button. I am 25 weeks and I asked my dr. about it, she said is completely normal. It is muscles stretching apart to make room for growing baby. As long as you can still feel the baby moving like normal, it should be okay. It's just one of those things that come with pregnancy.

It's very glad i saw this message sequence. I am 28 weeks pregnent and I also having a numb feeling in my stomach in Navel area. I was too scared as well to cry even. But got to know it's a kind of contraction becasue it's bit near to the due.My most scari was the stillness of the baby. But realize when it is growing the space available in the womb for it is not enough to move so the movements also got bit reduce. But Thanks God it is what is happening. Thanks for the message thread i got cool down too.
