I had to take painkiller and penicillin for a toothache. The dentist said the pain would go once I started taking the painkillers etc... Two days later I started to get a "small" scratchy sore throat... and now about 8 days in my toothache is pretty much gone and the only thing paining me is the bloody sore throat and YES swollen gums.It has to be the penicillin, because how could pain for a toothache (which was twice as bad) disappear and yet the pain in my throat and gums be almost as bad?Hoping it'll disappear once i'm off the antibiotics. In the meantime keep away from chips and large packets of crisps is all i'll say!!! *Ouch*

I was diagnosed with strep Tuesday. I've been taking penicillin since then and although my fever has gone away, my inflamed gum problem persists. My gums became red and swollen the night I came down with strep. I've been gargling salt water and Hydrogen peroxide as suggested by a pharmacist. It has not improved the problem, if anything I've realized my gums are now receding, bleeding and have canker sores. Very scary since I brush religiously, I am convinced this is another infection in my mouth as a result of strep. I told my doctor about the problem he said they "could" be related, but honestly I've read so many posts where people have had the same problem after being diagnosed. I am going to see dentist Monday, I will post on here what they have to say. I've read it will just be a cleaning with another possible antibiotic and mouthwash. This is so frustrating since I still don't feel 100%. I'm nauseous, fatigued and I can't eat anything because it gives me a burning sensation. I hope someone will be able to shed light on this terribly annoying and scary issue. Strep is far worse than I could have ever imagined. I'm 26, female and have never encountered such an illness in my life.
