I can't believe everyone is having the same issue I am having! I was prescribed synthroid (generic) 2 years ago - and I have been gaining weight likt crazy - especially since the dose has been increased! Plus I am tired all the time - what the heck are we supposed to do?? My last visit to the doctor in March - she commented about my weight - this is after all the snow we have in the Northeast - and shoveling almost daily - and walking around instead of driving - and the weight is WORSE than ever - and I told her what I have been doing - my diet consists mostly of veggies, chicken and some fish - I just don't know what to do - I have my next appointment in July - am thinking of telling her I am going off these pills.....
I would love to hear more about recovering my thyroid. For 13 years I've been on synthroid for hypothyroid due to Hashimotos. I can not lose weight no matter what I do. Please help. I want off synthroid.
I am 45 years old and have been on Synthroid for over 20 years and never gained any weight till recently. I have always been on 125mcg and now the doctor has put me on 112 mc and I have gained 7 pounds in the past two months. I was 128 pounds and now am at 135 and I know its lower dose that is doing it,
how can you treat the thyroid with food?
This is generally not a good idea. You should only be taking thyroid hormones is your levels are low.
I had been on Nature-Throid for a few years. Three weeks ago, a new doctor switched me to Synthroid and, all of a sudden, I have belly fat/bloat. Usually, I have fairly flat abs. I always have. So, the sudden rounder belly made me think it was the Synthroid. I switched back to Nature-Throid yesterday. I'm hoping to get back to normal soon.
Amen to that! I have gained since starting this medication and haven't changed my diet or exercise. It's so frustrating to think that I have to go up a size in clothing after working so hard!
I would to know a more natural way. Not sure why I was even put on it as I had no symptoms and the lab results were not bad. Being sluggish has more to do with my fibromyalgia.
All of these stories make me feel sad, but not alone! I started Armour 1/4 grain last July (2014) and worked my way up to 1 grain in June 2015. I was still having symptoms - severe constipation, tired, weight gain, muscle weakness. My doctor switched me to Synthroid and Cytomel in July. I took it for 6 weeks and gained 10 pounds despite being on a clean eating regimen and regularly exercising. I just turned 30. I was looking at photos of this time last year and the clothes I was able to wear. My diet is MUCH cleaner than it was this time in 2014 before I started any thyroid medication. Because I have low T3 and T4 levels, but not terribly low, my doctor has agreed that I can go off the Synthroid and Cytomel and try to treat my thyroid with diet for a few months. Has anyone had success going off thyroid hormones altogether? Any advice? And how long did it take to feel back to normal? I would take how I felt before medicine over this for sure. Thanks, and bless you all. I feel your pain!!
that "guest" is an immature troll.
Yes I have the self same problem
I to have been on synthroid for 30 yrs and in the last few years my weight has increased -but more then that the last few months excessive weight gain-excessive sweating total weight gain 35lbs I exercise & eat right just keep gaining-my doctor said I' m taking to much synthroid but I' m staying on .125mcg--also always hungry
I was diagnosed in 2012, I'm now 33. I was 162lbs when I first started synthroid at 75mcg. I did strict low carb and ran 20 miles a week religiously. I was able to get down to 150lbs.
In 2013 October, I switched to armour and gained 10pounds.
In March of 2014 I switched back to synthroid but upped to 100mcg.
My t3 was tested and was at 2.2 but I decided not to take cytomel, even though doc said I could.
In July of 2014 I stopped running and upped my calories and upped my carbs. By the end of 2014 I was down to 128lbs. Today I was 122lbs.
I say all that meaning: I think if you have thyroid issues and stress your body out any way - it will hold the weight. I also let go of a stressful job and the weight came off. I was dieting and running - this stressed my body out. I eat whatever I want now but I eat naturally less because I never binge anymore. I have no desire to. Try upping your carbs and less or no exercise. Nothing is wrong with synthroid. It's the mind body connection. I can't tell you the agony and depression I suffered before it finally lifted. You just have to find the right dosage and the right "groove". My doc tests my blood every 2 months for the past 3 years. Say what you will, I watch my THyroid hormones like a hawk.

This sounds good to me. Actually dx about 40 yrs ago with this.... took synthroid for year or two and stopped...... Now, age 67, told I need to go on this as I am 'mildly' hypothyroid...... Ski am very active and just don't know..... told that hypothyroid can lead to thyroid cancer? But again, haven't taken the med for 40 yrs....
How do I reach you to get more information about natural food sources to treat hypothyroidism?
