I had the leep procedure 2 weeks ago this Tuesday. The first week was fine. Just fatigued and mild pains. Beginning on Monday of the 2nd week I began bleeding bright red blood. It has been this way for 1 week now and I am filling a pad at least every hour. I passed golf ball sized clots the first 3 days I began bleeding. The worst part is that for up until the last two nights, I've had to get up 2-3 times a night to change my pad. The lack of sleep is not helping the healing. I'm concerned of the color and amount of blood--- bright red, and a whole lot. I can't even go to the store without freaking out because I can feel blood gushing out of me. Every time I stand up- here comes more. Has this happened to any of you? I called my doctor when I passed the clots because they were so big. . she told me that it was nothing to worry about. Still, I don't feel very well. I'm pretty sure it's from the bleeding, but I'm very tired and I get cold sweats when I'm walking around. I'm pretty sure this is not my period because I was on day 3 of my period when the procedure was done. My cycle usually only lasts 3-5 days. Also, I'm still having mild abdonminal pains. Any advice?? Has anyone else been here? %-)

Thanks. I hope to hear from one of you soon.

Im 30 years old and Ive no kids - I had a routine smear test in April - and due to severe abnormal cells I went for a Colposcopy on the 6th of this month. I thought this appointment was just for a closer examinaton - however during this the Doctor performed a LEEP Procedure. Really Simple and painless - I was shocked when she said "thats you done, cells removed, see you in 6 months".
I was told told to expect discharge and an ealier or later monthly cycle. Its been 9 days from my procedure and Im still having as heavy a discharge as I had on day 1, it hasnt let up at all - (Ive taken every percaution to avoid an infection). Tonight My period has just arrived 3 weeks early - maybe Im just being over paranoid because Im 30 and still want a family. Anythoughts?

Im the 30 year old who had LEEP on the 6th of this month - Hopefully the post I created (before I joined just now) will show after this.

I totaly agree with blondie26 who thinks we should be consulted by the Doctors about the untimely non period bleeding - Im sure there are wemon in the same situation who have no internet acess and are quite worried and stressed. I was soo un-informed that I didnt even realise I was Having the Cells removed that day!

On a different subject - My partner of 7 years (to whom I have been faithfull) has qouted an article in Newspaper, which claims the reason for "the rising number of young ladies with abnormal smears is due to HPV as a result of "having sex at a young age and with more partners" - Im soo angry - (firstly with him, for even implying what the article suggests). It looks like, we, wemon are been slutified again by the media. Anyone uninformed who reads the article Ive just read, will think that Cervical cancer is an STD! and something to be ashamed of.

I am 37 and no kids. I had LEEP procedure on June 23 and had my period on June 30. Since then I haven't stopped bleeding. Today is July 14th! I called my dr. twice they told me it's normal. I have bright blood and also clots. The first week I felt fine and went out shopping and working. but second week, my period showed up, after 7 days I am still bleeding. Normal my pms is 3 - 5 days. And I felt cramps. I tried my best to stay at home in bed. Once I went out and started bleeding more. I took some Chinese stop bleeding Medicine which I know very well and grow up with it, it helped and I am getting less bleeding. Yesterday I felt fine, so I went to work and did some grocery, then I felt bleed is gushing from me. I had abdominal discomfort and backache. After whole day laid in bed, I feel better today. I just don't know when it will stop completely. I am trying to keep infection free by taking shower before go to bed. Don't drink, don't smoke, don't exercise, don't have sex, don't eat cold stuff or spicy stuff. Eat chicken soup to warm your cervix. I have appointment with my dr. Aug 4th. Hope everything will be fine. Hang in there, take care yourself and everything will be fine.

I'm amazed at the amount of women who are in the same boat as me, I thought I was alone on this one. I had severe dyskaria diagnosed after a smear and went for a colposcopy in mid july. I had LEEP procedure performed at the same time as I was advised I would need to have this performed at a later date, so I decided to have it done there and then to avoid having to return again. The procedure wasn't pleasant and wasn't comfortable and I was told I would have a clear discharge for a few days and to avoid tampons and sex for 3 weeks after. I followed the advice, and only had one day off work after as I couldn't walk comfortably and I did have a discharge with no red bleeding for the days after and then my period started about 5days after the procedure. This normally lasts 3-5 days and isn't usually heavy. My period seemed the same as usual, possibly slightly heavier, and then on the 5th day when it normally tails off and turns more brownish in colour, I went to the toilet and strained a little, then the bright red bleeding started. It was kind of like a nose bleed where it drips bright red and feels warm. It didnt seem to be healing after a couple of days and I started stressing which seemed to aggravate it more. I ended up going to the walk in centre and was prescribed tranexamic acid 500mg to aid blood clotting. I took one tablet and half an hout later was bleeding heavier than before, I panicked and rang the clinic and spoke to a doctor (who hadnt prescribed the medication), he told me to increase the dosage, which I did not, as he hadn't seen me and the dosage on the pack was different. I stuck to the pack dosage and went to bed to relax and try and stop worrying. This was about 24hours ago and I seem to be bleeding less, in fact it is more brown than red and isnt dripping so I'm hoping the tablets have helped with the bleeding and the rest I am now getting is helping to aid recovery. Im going to take a few days off work, I asked this and was told it wasn't necessary, but by reading various discussion boards, the general consensus seems to be that fluids, rest and keeping clean with showers not baths seems to help. I hope everyone on here has recovered in one way or another and I am sad that the advice given by professionals seems to be as carefree as dictating a shopping list to someone. Take care everyone and get well soon :D xx

Hi, I've just returned home from hospital after having a Leep procedure. Unfortunately I bled heavily during the procedure and they had difficulty in stopping it (I ended up losing 360ml and the "norm" is approx 10ml) I had to stay in hospital over night incase I bled again and was put on a drip. However I would say that I have bled only slightly since. I have been told that light bleeding can continue for 4-7 days and to avoid intercourse, using tampons and femine hygiene products for a month. If any discharge smells offensive or pass clots then that is a sign you have an infection and to contact your doctor / hospital imediately.

My experience is really unusual apparently (my consultant only had one other woman who responded in this way in 12 years) and the actual procedure was ok. It's uncomfortable but bearable, infact the worst bit was when they removed my coil and that was over in a couple of seconds! My advice would to have someone to go with you (drive you home etc) as you might not feel up to it afterwards.

Hi everyone, I had a leep 18 days ago, everything seems normal, the bleeding was normal it last for 6days and now I'm having normal white discharge. During the procedure I felt a little pain but it wasn't bad at all. The doc told me to avoid having sex for 4 weeks, hot bath, douche and not use tampons to avoid infections which I did. But 2 days ago , I felt a pain in my lower abdomen, I'm a little concern because it makes me really feel uncomfortable. I called the doc to make sure that everything is fine , if Im nit having fever or heavy bleeding I'm fine, she also tol\=d me to increase the dose of ibuprohen and I should take it every 6 to 8 hours which I m planning to do. Hope it will get better.
Sometimes anxiety, stress can make things worse. I thing that we need to be strong and just thing positively everything can happen in life and there's worse;-( Hope that everything will be just fine for all of us and that it will be just a phase in our life that will go away;-) gd luck for everyone.

I had a leep done last October and all went pretty smoothly at the beginning. I had a coil fitted at the time and I had also just come off my period this was worrying me so I contacted the Hospital to make sure they could still perform the operation when I had a coil fitted, they said this was fine. 3 days later I was rushed into A&E with sever abdominal pains and being sick. 2 days later I was fighting for my life in Critical care on a ventilator. The Hospital have not said that this procedure was the cause of my Pnumonia and Sceptacemia but I think differently...All I can say is make sure you fully research this procedure to know what you letting yourselves in for...as it nearly killed me!

I had a procedure to remove abnormal sells on my cervix and hardly bled after the procedure (just some pinkish discharge). A week after the procedure my period started it wasn't as heavy as normal. However, on the evening of the third day af my period and 10 days after the operation on my cervix I passed a huge blood clot after which the blood started gushing out of me I was soaking a pad about every 5 min. I called the ambulance and was taken to the ER where a doctor stitched up my cervix, she explained that around 10-14 days after the procedure the scab falls off and this can result in heavy bleeding she said I had a burst capillary inside my cervix which she had to put two stitches on. I am now resting at home and praying that things will improve from here on. I sympathise with everyone going through this as it was absolutely terrifying I suffer from anxiety which made things a lot more scary.
