Heat worked for me. Someone told me I might have pulled a HAM STRING. I thought only Football and Basketball players were the only ones that did that??? Anyway, after sitting on the heating pad for a couple of nights, I got better.

Hope it works for you. If not, you might want to see a P/T or better yet your Doctor if it persists.

FINALLY!! found others that are dealing with this exact pain and location. MRI shows little inflammtion or  arthiritis and minimal bursitis(which I had been told before in o8) but still no answers. Chiro is trying to help me by suggesting the foam roll(awkward and painful) exercises to stretch and enhance glute muscles. Not helping. Sitting and long walks aggrivate it more oh and sleeping on the left OR right on my waveless waterbed.go figure!  UGH

I've been hit by a car in middle school on my left side so I assumed it all stems from that (old injury) i am now 46. Active, middle of my BMI, usto run :(( and I stretch daily but its like a rubber band the next day I am stiff again but I am flexable go figure.I have had popping in my left hip forever. My chiro says it's the IT band, which sounds logical and I recently read it could be the intra articular or lateral syndrome. ?? I've read that if this doesn't get resolved it could lead to muscle damage. very vague .

havn't looked up the piriformis syndrome as some have mentioned. But it has been a long roller coaster and frustrating. my husband says i am getting older and just have to live with it. HELL NO! I want answers and for it to go AWAY!

Thank you, Ted! I, too, started suffering this pain in my upper thigh over a month ago and it has affected my rear right thigh. I have realized that I usually sit at the same position when I watch TV and work on my computer. In fact, I usually cross my legs and lean to one side. This maybe the reason that over a long period of time I have unknowingly caused this problem. However, I not longer do this. I sit at a different position now and stop crossing my legs and leaning to one side. The pain has not completely stopped yet, however, it also has not gotten worse and I feel an improvement. The best, fastest and easiest relief I got, was when I use my inversion/hand-up table ('teeter hang ups') and I invert and stretch my whole spine. This relief is instant and I highly recommend it to people who suffer this pain. I bought mine from Costco a few years ago and it is a great investment. I believe that people who suffer with this pain have to realize what they are doing (and have been doing) wrong for a long time to cause this pain and then they have to change their habits. Also, I believe the exercises are extremely important!!! I hope this helps someone out there who is suffering.

I had low back pains for two weeks and i took Ibuprofen for that which helped like magic. But after 2 days my right buttock started to ache followed by the rear of my right thigh. It is relieved by walking and aggravated by sitting. At times when i cross my legs,I can see changes in color of my feet.Bluish but no numbness. And color goes back to normal after stretching my legs. Its the first time I experienced this so I am really worried. Now no more back pain but there is stiffness and the throbbing pain behind my right thigh is still present.

Had this problem for 10 years. Under right buttock . Was told by specialist , not to stretch hamstring in any way due to fact it is trying to re-attach itself to lower pelvic area, from where its torn away {under buttock}.. this can be done simply by:- slipping on ice , kicking a football . Once damaged the simplest stretch will tear and so this condition will persist . Complete rest for 3 months is the only answer . or will continue for life . Could not afford this time off work and so this pain which sometimes is agonising , I have to live with

NO ONE SEEMS TO KNOW WHAT THIS IS!!??  Its a pain where the butt cheek meets the leg basicaly.

IF YOU"RE having pain from the center of your butt cheek down your leg... look up Piriformis Syndrome.

However the pain under the butt cheek IS DIFFERENT because it doesn't continue down the leg.  THIS IS WHAT WE ARE TRYING TO FIGHUE OUT

Has anyone ever looked at the possibility of a urine infection as being the cause?

i had the same problem with pain in just the left thigh under the butt cheek and doctor prescribed antibiotics for urine infection and it cleared up, just another avenue to think about folks.

Get the blood test: observe Vitamin B12 and D: I was experiencing this pain since 2 months. Its severe pain. At last isolated the cause exactly and got the solution. Hope this will work for you also.
Observe the patterns:
1. Lack of Vitamin D and B.
2. You are sitting for long time. Abnormal sitting position holding computer/laptop.
3. No physical activity.
4. Your diet, more gassy foods, bowl moments can pressure/trigger sciatic nerves.
5. Sleeping position.
6. More spicy/other foods can cause heat to the body. ( too much garlic, too much ginger etc..)

Out of the above 6 issues, most importantly Vitamin D is the biggest factor.

Started Vitamin D, changed my style based on above mentioned issues: Pain is almost gone:

Good Luck!
