i have a sore throat on the left hand side and my ear and teeth also hurt at the same side. i saw a doctor today and he told me to take pain killers and it will maybe get better.
well i am going through the same thing.my mom just thought that i had water in my ear.but i thought otherwise.and she put baby oil in my ear then put rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball and put it in my ear then massaged it.it worked for awhile then it just got worst later.i have been taking headache medicine and pain reliever.it works but not for long.i get dizzy sometimes.it goes through my left side of my head all the way through my ear and part of my throat.and ever so often it gets worst.and it hurts so bad, my mom says if the mineral oils don't work tomorrow she is going to send me to the doctor.and it is going through my shoulder and arm.i just hope it's nothing to serious.this is scaring me so bad.this has never happened to me and i am so scared.it hurts to sneeze and when i stop breathing the hurting goes away.i have not been sleeping very well.and because i haven't been sleeping well i have een taking sleeping pills.
any advice.?.

I urge you to go to a dentist who spealizes in TMJ and leave the medical doctors alone. This is out of their realm of expertise. Even if your jaw functions properly your muscles around the jaw can cause the same TMJ symptons. I've been misdiagnosed by doctors for 4 years and have been taking some serious drugs when all I need was some physical therapy and a custom mouth guard.
I too have been having a sharp pain in my right ear, which radiates to my back tooth and from the back one and ear to the front one on the right side...I also have a sligtly swollen glad on the right side of my neck and a "trying to be sore throat"...and sometimes some minimal sinus drainage... It has been killing me for about 3 weeks.
It seems to hurt worse when I lay down at night... then after I wake up in the morning.
I have been taking Ibuprofen...as needed...and using a heating pad....the whole thing makes me feel tired and listless.
Needless to say I have not been very active. ; (
I do have a cracking jaw on the left side [as adversed to the right and have for years]
And frequent sinus problems...so I thought it might be an infection....but I am not running a fever with it...so I dunno.
I have not been to a doctor yet or a dentist...they cost more than I can afford.
From the sounds of some of your replies it sounds like it might be a waste of time anyway.
I just hope it goes away soon.
Since it is super cold here and basically all over the USA I am wondering if it could be related?
Thoughts?
It all started after dental work on my # 1 Right upper molar, which had a large filling replaced.
Could it be a condition called: Atypical Odontalgia? If so, my dentist sure didn't pick up on it. It says to avoid dental work which makes it worse, haven't been back to see him. It has to do with neuropathic pain. My next stop will be an ENT doctor a month from now for a previously problem.
Same stuff going on here - began with 2 fillings. The next day started Burning Mouth Syndrome (look it up - it's real, and very painful). And my left cheek was achy where fillings went in. Two weeks later, crippling headaches, which are now more annoying than anything, but still daily...often behind my left ear, but sometimes more general in nature across top of head; and left ear HURTS, as well as the joint in front of it - I don't have TMJ to my knowledge (no popping). Had a root canal last week in one of those teeth that had the filling which actually sweems to have helped - no longer throbbing, but still painful.
Funny enough, when I touch that spot above root canal, it triggers pain in left side of my throat and ear. Hmmm. Is it the upper jaw bone? Trigeminal nerve? Oh, also have mild tinnitus in left ear, just for good measure.
Even my front teeth hurt- the air hurts when I speak, plus now left side of my throat burns esp. when swallowing. Having a test done today to rule out/confirm trigeminal neuralgia but I don't have the sharp, shooting pains characteristic of TM. Just constant pain. One more thing - it feels like I'm biting my tongue 24x7on the left side. So weird. The right side of my face feels like a different person - completely fine!
Dentist said "you just have senstive teeth" (though the right side is fine - really now?!) First endodontist said sinus infection, Rx antibiotics, that didn't help. Second endodontist is the one who actually realized I had a root canal. (Can you trust any of these guys anymore?!?!) Primary physician ran blood work that was all normal. ENT cleaned wax out of my ears and ordered an MRI for ear and migraines (which honestly I only get like twice/year). Neuro ordered evoked potentials test to confirm neuralgia (that's today). Made appt. to see TMJ specialist who is also a dentist next week (pay out of pocket.)
I wish we could get an answer. Anyone from the medical profession, or who has suffered from and resolved these symptoms care to chime in? Thanks all for listening, and posting - keep the conversation going, maybe we'll find some answers.... ?
I have been going throuh a horrible time with similar aymptoms.
I have had a lump at the back of my tounge for a couple of years. It is a taste but that has swollen which is apparently fairly common.
I assumed that the neck, ear face and eye pain I have been suffering from was caused by this lump and was terrified it was cancerous. I had an insurance problem and have had no coverege since the beginning of this year.
Then almost 2 months ago I had a horrible experience at my workplace. I thought I was dying. I got a huge headrush that had a chlorine smell and my blood pressure went over 200.
I was in a complete state of panic for 2 days I was sure I was having a stroke or a seizure (it was a holiday weekend) then got in for an urgent care appt. They checked my heart and did a blood panel.
My thyroid was a bit high and they put me on meds for that, mgot my BP back tonormal and something for the anxiety.
Also my cholesteral is 297 even though I just lost 25 pounds. This visit cost me about a thousand bucks.
My insurance becomes effective on 11/1 and the only thing keeping me sane is the anxiety meds.
I have an appt 11/3 and am barely getting through each day waiting for it to come. I am so afraid they were wrong about the bump on my toungue or that I may have basal toungue cancer.
The symtoms you all share are so like mine! My ear hurts, sometimes my cheek and eye and my neck and the back of my head and my throat.
Could it be that I am suffering from TMJ?

Did any of you by chance have a spasm feeling that went from your neck up through your head before all this pain started? For me, this has happened 3 times, and generally lasts 3-4 months before it goes away. It comes back about 2 times a year, so i get a break for a few months of the year. It starts with the spasm, and my ear/jaw area ache a bit on the left side. It feels as if the vessel that sends blood to my brain is a bit swollen. It feels good to use ice on it, and to apply pressure, however it has seemingly made my ear hurt all day, and the headache wont go away with any type of painkillers, including percocets. My mouths become dryish from it, and i seem to have a neverending lockjaw during this few month period. I constantly grind my teeth, and move my jaw back and forth trying to loosen it subconciously. Anyways, if it helps anyone here, i havent been to any doctor about it once. Anyways, if your like me, then i would either guess its a muscle/nerve problem somewhere in the head/neck area. I doubt thats something a doctor can just tell you without ruling out all the other stuff first. You should probly go see a nerve doctor, to see if its one of your nerves that is messed up. It seems that paine killers dont work well with nerves that are messed up.
