I too have also had my gullbladder removed by laproscopy want to say in mid 2011
and I've had the same pain also right below the rib cage on the right side sometimes worse than others but 99.9% of the time it's happens at night while I'm sleeping and I wake up eat something small like a granola bar or piece of bread and it seems to help, but I don't know if anyone else has this same problem or not but I can't hardly go to a restraunt or eat at a buffet while not worrying where the restroom is cuz it almost seems like it just goes straight through INSTANTLY obviously not but sure seems like it!!!
It's just bile being forced through and painful cramping etc I take QUESTRAN or CHOLESTRAMINE
POWDER seems to help with that problem but not the pain, for me it's like a searing pain like just aches and gradually gets worse and worse sometimes I'll even scream it hurts!!!
SOMEONE PLEASE FIGURE OUT WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH ME AND EVERYONE ELSE

.Hi I had my gall bladder op about 12years ago.I only started having pain about 3 year's ago.I also have diverticulitis and non alcoholic fatty liver.Had all the tests like everyone else seems to have done, same result , negative.Dr told me to keep taking pain killers. They have no idea what is wrong and make me feel like I am imagining it.But as you I am not. When really bad goes over to my left side then in to my back between shoulder blades.Tablets do not really help just take edge off.I am not over weight ,but would love to know what is wrong.I am 66 years old, sorry that so many people have same problem but it is good to know I am not alone.

I had my gallbladder out in Feb 2016 and now 13 months later I am still having the exact same symptoms/pain that you are. The other day I also felt what seems to be scar tissue by my ribs. I also have pain and burning into my back clear up to my scapula which I know is referred pain but my goodness it's terrible. I am a nurse and I don't really want to go back to my primary care Dr because I think that he thinks it's all in my head. If you have found a solution please let me know!

I don't know what it is but I do know that through trial and error I can diminish the pain.
No wheat at all!
No potato other than sweet potato.
NO GLUTEN FREE products!
No carbonated beverages.
As little sugar as possible!

Did your pain get better - this is the same situation with my 18 year old daughter. She is in so much pain and missing days at school. We want her pain resolved before she goes to college. Just wondering if you are feeling better?

What I eat most definitely makes a difference. I always have the reminder that it's there..... but the pain is not as significant if I am careful with what I eat. I do also have issues with GERD and am going for another endoscopy. I hope to find out more.

I had my gall bladder removed 23 years ago, (laparoscopic) within a few years, I too had experienced a dull aching pain under my right rib cage, my Dr put me in hospital and ran several tests, nothing found so he assumed scar tissue or ulcer was the culprit, put me on Prilosec for a short while and I went on with my life, pain free for the most part, I would also experience it again during 3rd trimester of pregnancy, all 5 of them. What seemed to work for me was taking Cimetidine OTC, Followed by several loose stools, making me think I had a back up of bile. I recently had other Gastrointestinal issues caused by H-Pylori, I now take probiotics every day, and haven't had to resort to any other medicine. I am happy I found this post, I'm still alive and well for the most part, but I too spent many long nights worrying about where the pain was coming from. I read an article stating that this pain description is common in about 40% of post op patients. Best of luck to you!!

I had my gall bladder three weeks ago. I am experiencing sever pain at the bottom of my right rib around my waist. (Almost where your kidney is located). I called the doctor and they told me I probably have overdone and rotate Tylenol with ibuprofen. I cannot take a deep breath in due to the pain. This is worse than my nonfunctioning gall bladder. I did not have stones. Some of my friends have had theirs taken out and back to work in a week! does this get any better???? I feel like crying!

I am in the same (packed) boat as these posters. Gallbladder removed three years ago, pain that comes and goes in severity under right rib cage. My theory is that it's related to the clip that is used to close off the point where the gallbladder is removed. It doesn't make sense to me, to place a metal clip in malleable soft tissue. It's no wonder it hurts. Just my theory. But am having a sono next week, because I can't stand the pain. Doctors may do their best, but honestly, unless they experience what their patients do, they are educated guessing. Have hope!

I too had my gallbladder remove laparoscopic. I have had pain on and off for the last 4 yrs. had every type of test (endoscopy, colonoscopy, hydrogen breath test and many others). Nothing shows up. Have pain that radiates across my upper abdomen. Bouts with diarrhea and constipation. Drs just tell me that they don't know what is causing the pain. After reading all of the blogs, seems I am in the same position as everyone who has had a problem after gallbladder removal
