Are you eating bland foods? A good diet will help. Drink a lot of water. Acidy, fatty foods will make it burn more.
Do a search on Kegel execrices. The sphincter muscles need to be strengthened.
I had my surgery on the 17th. All went well. Straining from constipation will cause you to bleed again. I was clear of blood until I did that. I passed a lot of blood and scabs. One got stuck and I had to have the cath again. The cath just pushed it back into the prostate. When it came out again I was able to push it out urinating. Two days later I was clear from bleeding again. No more dribbling either. Feminine pads work good for that. I am going much less frequently now. If I wasn't sitting around eating and drinking all the time it would be less. Very little burn. Much stronger stream. It will take a while to get used to not automatically go to the bathroom all the time. My suggestions are no straining on voiding, eat bland foods and non acidy drinks too. Acidy urine will burn. Drink a lot of water and liquids during recovery. Don't do physical work or lift for a couple weeks. Do kegel exercises for the sphincter muscles to strengthen them back up again. That will help for better orgasm and to stop dribbling.
well fellas,
Opps I did it again...I had my second PVP laser surgery april 10 2007, same doctor and same hospital. stayed overnight with irrigation catherer in and released home 24 hrs later. went to doc office next day at 9am to remove catherer. doc was not in but nurse told me of medicine for painful urination (urelle??). Wow i got the meds and have taken them for 8 weeks now. still hurts when i pee but alot less intense..so if U are experiencing painful urination after laser surgery have the doc get this med for you. I still have weak stream and uregency/frequency but more tolerable than first time...Doc said stay on proscar otherwise prostate will grow like a weed. my psa # came down during the year between 1 & 2nd laser surgery while on proscar. Hope this is the end of the green light !!
take care fellas

I had my laser PVP procedure on April 26th. I was kept in the hospital overnight because I didn't come out of recovery until 8:30 P.M. I would recommend staying in the hospital overnight if at all possible, despite the number of people who go home the same day with instructions on how to remove their own catheter the next day. I had some bleeding for the first three weeks when I started to urinate. I returned to desk duty at work 10 days after my surgey with my doctor's permission, but I probably should have waited a few days longer.
Before my surgery I was getting up as many as 14 times in the night to go to the bathroom. I now get up a maximum of twice, if at all. I always had to know where every bathroom was, and I couldn't travel by car because I continually had emergencies that required me getting off the interstate to find a place to go. I just got back from a weekend car trip from Phoenix to Albuquerque and back with no urgent episodes.
While I do have a sense of urgency when the time comes to go, I'll take that to having to wait and dribble for two or three minutes because I couldn't get started. My stream is strong and getting stronger, and I have no discomfort except for an occassional pain in the head of my penis that is proabbly related to the healing process.
Four weeks after surgery, and everything works sexually. The intensity of orgasm seems deminished, but I'm convinced that it will improve with time, although it isn't bad now. I do continue to pass bits of stuff, but that just tells me that I'm healing.
The worst part of the procedure was having the catheter removed. I am very happy with my results, and would do it again if necessary.
Only words of advice are to find a doctor who will answer all your questions, follow your doctor's recommendations, make sure your insurance is on board, and keep a positive attitude.

I had pvp procedure 6 weeks ago. Blood and clots for 2 weeks, doctor put me on avodart. Bleeding and clots stopped in a week. Then started passing small stones the size of grains of sand. Was told I had calcium deposits in my prostate. On Memorial day, 5 weeks in, while I was passing tissue the stream stopped suddenly and for 3 hours when I tried to urinate lots of pain but no urination. After 3 hours I pushed like crazy and out popped a large piece of tissure. After that the burning has returned and the urgency to urinate comes on fast and furious. Yesterday, 6 weeks in, I passed some more tissue. Each time I pass tissue the frequency and urgency increase. I stopped calling my doctor because all he basically says is "this too shall pass." I certainly hope so.
I elected not to have surgery at age 54 and decided to use a catheter.
To make a long story short I am now 74 years old and still use intermittent catherization. I drink 10-12 8 Oz. glasses of water every 24 hours which is very important.
I sterilize the catheter in a second lowpower microwave oven used just for this purpose. I use paper towels instead of cloth towels. I have only had three infections in 20 years.
I also use a docter prescribed antibiotic as a prophylatic dose
every day.

I had pvp aser surgery about 3 months ago. My symtpoms were extremely weak stream.. Could not pee standing up it was so week even though I was on uroatral and flowmax prior. I wanted to get operatio n because of weak stream and I felt medication was causing tiredness. I was also getting up several times a night to urinate. I went in at 7:00 am in the morning andwas home by about 10:30 am. I had a catheter which I removed the next morning. There is no way I could have went back to work the next day but had operation on Thursday and wen t back to work on Monday. Had blood in urine for a couple weeks but eventually cleared up. This operation made me urinate stronger then I had inthe last 20 years. I'm 54. I can sleep 4-7 hours typically without haveing to get up and urinate which is a olot better then before. I did get retrograde ejaculation from the procedure which I knew would be likely befoe hand. I had the same phenomenon as others describe on this board which is the extreme sensation to urinate, still have that but it is lessening. I am definielt spending less time in bathroom. When I go to a sporting event I don't have to worry about going to the bathroom more them once if i don't drink excessively. It does seem like my libido is down a bit and sex is not as enjoyable. I am off any medication. Overall I would recommend this procedure only if retrograde ejaculation is not a problem. I am a pretty healthy individual other then the bph and think the recovery from the procedure is not as easy as advertised.
Q: Your painful urination is over now? I had PVP laser surgery on sep 26, 2007, and today oct 8, I have the painful urination too. I am worried the painful urination will last my whole life.
Who is your surgeon? Where can he be reached?baq1n
I am an active 61 year old with no medical conditions other the problem described below. On April 7, 2008 I went into hospital for outpatient surgery due to BHP. PVP operation went well. I did not have a catherter and went home within 2 hours.
Unfortunately the surgeon unknowing sliced my urinary bladder. which was not identified until June 11. I was released from the hospital June 14 and "wore" a cather until June 25 when my bladder was pronounced healed.
Presently (June 10, '08) The biggest problem is frequent urination, which I cannot "hold". "Enablex" seems to help 15mg. How long should this condition last e.g. when should I expect improvement?

I am a 64 year old male with minor prostate enlargement, yet I have weak flow and most BPH symptoms. Although Flomax works for me, I am planning to request the Greenlight PVP laser procedure since I take oral medications for an autoimmune disorder and do not wish to take any more medications. Is this typically a one-time procedure or will I have to repeat this procedure again in later years?
had revolix laser surgery 3 mos. ago. initially fantastic results. i had been getting up 5 times nitely to strain to go. after surgery, catheter 1 nite. next nite slept 6hrs. for 1st, time in yrs. great flow. 2nd nite up 1 time, 3rd nite up 2 times, etc. 2 weeks post op back to going 5 time nitely. the only difference is i don't have to strain. i can go,ly down and within 5 mins. go again more volune than 1st. time. then 1 to 1/2half hrs. sleep. don't have total tetrograde ejaculation but volume is diminished. seem to have lost ability to climax. used to be 90% now down to 20%. I am a 60 yr young health fanatic, body builder, no alcohol , tobacco. Doc gives me i unit of tetstosterone weekly as i previously tested low. May ask for higher dose as people learn that at this level dosage there are great benefits. My primary doc. is 39 yr. old all natural bodybuilder. known as the brain. he belives just as women need hrt men need it also. men with low test die with heart attacks. he has advised me to take it for life. Back to prostate-have not read any completely successful surgeries but if u r out there i would love to hear from u. i am trying to stretch my bladder by drinking lots of water3 and holding as long as possible . has this worked for anyone? Sleepy in Hot Springs , Ronnie
Works Great!!! Had PVP surgery 12 weeks ago. Was sent home with a cathater that I had to leave in for two days. That was pretty much the worst part. After the cath was removed I had some pain on urination for the next week but that subsided. The blood and clots lasted for the next four weeks along with some bladder cramping, (bladder getting used to holding more, and peeing less often), and that went away after seven weeks. My urine stream when I pee is like a 12 year old again. I can empty my bladder in a few seconds with a strong large stream! I do still pass little chunks of scab but it has only been 12 weeks. No retrograde ejaculation, no pain and a fantastic stream. I get up only once a night now to pee versus five times before the surgery. There a many thousands of people out there that don't write anything because they have had no problems with the surgery and are happy with the results. I for one am truely glad that I had it done. It has changed my life!
I had the same procedure on Jan. 20, 2011 and I know what you're going through. We are now in the ending of Feb. 2012, and I'm still suffering with the burning pain after urinating. My doctor told me that I caught a urinary track infection due to the surgery and was put on antibiotics which haven't helped. I hope your cry for help wasn't ignored and if it wasn't, please let me know on how it was taken care of.
