I have a 25 year old son who has quit smoking cigarettes and marijuana for the last 4 weeks. We have been throw the panic attacks, anxiety and numerous aches and pains. My concern now is that he is complaining that his chest area is sore and his back is sore also. Rib cage area seems to be sore. Can someone give me some advice. Should I take my son to the doctor Or is this all about anxiety.

Take him to the doctors anyway, but the chest pains/back pains are quite normal after quitting smoking (cigarettes) and so is a persistant cough. The chest & back pains are linked. The lungs sit in the middle of the body, so any pain caused by them can be felt in the chest and back (that's why a doctor will also listen to your back with a stethoscope when you complain of a cough or breathing problems).

The numerous aches and pains may well be psychosomatic and a product of the anxiousness, but I'm guessing that it's because his lungs are cleansing themselves of the build up of tar & toxins.

I would advise getting him checked out anyway- just to be sure & to put your mind at rest.
