I, too, had PR over three years ago and still have dark spots that look like bruises, all over my body. I have tried Rx bleaching creams but none have worked. Looks like I'll have to live with the after effects.

Hi, I'm also African American and have scars on my chest, thighs and armpits from pr. I'm so self conscious about this and feel soo freaking ugly. I've had pr for a month now and planning to try tanning for 5 sessions every 3 days like Elise suggested hope it works. My dermatologist suggested Ambi cream which seemed to work but I've noticed it flared again and itching like crazy. Please reply your results seeing that the url you attempted to post did not stick. Thank you in advance

I noticed you were able to workout while having PR. I havent worked out because I was told that overheating and sweat would make it worse. We this your experience? Also is your PR gone now along with the marks? Im a brown skim black male and I am covered with this thing.

I am so thrilled to have found this website. I was diagnosed with PR September 2017. It is now February and I still have scars. I haven't been itchy since November but lesions are tuff to look at. My dermatologist told me it takes a long time to go away and before discovering this site I believed him. Now, I am not sure what to believe since reading a lot of what other suffers had posted. I have cried a lot and as I write my post I can not help but to shed tears. My entire back is covered and both sides of my torso have dark scars. I also have scars under my arms, some are down arms, my butt and butt cheeks, and down the back and btw mu thighs. Simply put, I am about 40% covered. I am a pretty fair skinned African-American so this issue really weighs heavy on my mind. I just want them gone!

If you are in the itchy phase, you may want to avoid anything that will over heat your body, heat intensity the itchiness. Take mildly warm showers.

I had PR starting in May and by the end of June all of the patches were gone but they left discoloration (they’re lighter than my skin tone). I had heard that sun exposure was a good way to speed up the process and I can say it defiantly did. Although I had PR for about a month, when a new patch would appear it would go away in at the most a week with exposure to the sun. But new ones popped up for about a month and half. Now they’re all gone expect for the scarring. I didn’t know if it was because I was tanning so they just haven’t caught up but they don’t seem to be getting any darker even though I’m spending a lot of time tanning. I’ve grown used to them and it doesn’t bother me and no ones even notices unless I bring it up. My boyfriend doesn’t care and nor does anyone else. Be confident in yourself. But I’d still like to know if they’ll even go away?
