This is fascinating. I am 42 and had Pityriasis Rosea when I was 22 years old. I had the herald patch (which I thought was from a cat scratch) for a couple of years before it developed into PR. While a little bit scary at the time (was not associated with herpes virus until recently) it followed the typical path described by my doctor. She told me not to do anything and don't scratch. I followed her instructions and I have not had it again and I had no marks afterwards however I would like to know if having this form of herpes virus (HHV6) can make you prone to future skin problems like vitiligo which I now have. No one in my family has vitiligo and I am fair with blonde hair which is not the typical. I also cannot be immunised against chickenpox (herpes HHV3) no matter how many times they give me the injections (scary when I was pregnant). It would be interesting to know if contracting this virus can affect you medically in the future and has anyone had similar experiences to me i.e. no immunity to chickenpox despite vaccination and or vitiligo. For some reason I have not been able to forget and question the long term effect of this virus 20 years later.

I have been experiencing the same problems... The thing for me however, is that I had signed up for a pageant before I had gotten PR and the pageant starts in January and the faded spots are still there... Have you gotten any response as to what to use and make the spots actually go away because I'd LOVE to know!

Hi I am currently diagnosed with PR as well. it has been about 3 week. I think it is healing as i can see the spots are peeling. I am concerned if it would leave scars later. From your experience, will the scars permanently go away?

Elise thank you so much for posting your progress....you have given me hope.

DaniellePityriasis Roses is not contagious, you can neither transmit it or catch it. If your cats had it and now you have it, you more than likely have Tinea not pityriasis...Tinea is fungal and contagious.

I actually have had PR for three weeks now and these spots are turning white??? Are these scars?

I have these white spots too. been going on for about a month. was told it was PR two weeks ago. I am so scared they are going to scar. I use baby oil to keep them form drying out. I am just so scared. My Dr told me to not use the tanning bed but after reading all of these post I am tempted to go to tanning bed.

Okay so since Im black, im worried about tanning. Cancer runs in the family. but im desperate to get rid of this. when you tanned did you use sunblock on unaffected areas? or did you just go in?

I was told by my doctor it comes from an undeveloped virus in the body. I think I got mine from an undeveloped cold virus. Which explains why many people get PR in the winter months.
