WOW, this has always been the exact same thing for me. Whenever I throw something extremely hard, the back left of my head pops, usually I will drop to my knees for a few seconds until the strange feeling goes away.
Maybe this?

Also check the condition "Neck Tongue syndrome" which I have from a bike accident. Caused by pressure on the nerves exiting the cervical vertebrae. It causes a metalic taste in my tongue ,a feeling of pressure and sometimes electric zaps. Can also be caused by Instability and over stretching of neck joints causing nerve pinching. A chiropractor helped me a lot to release tension in my shoulders and neck realeasing a lot of tension and pressure, after xray investigation and mri of course. The neck is very delicate, be safe.
I have a daughter, 9 years old who also has the same thing. A popping sensation, which startles her and she say it does hurt. It only lasts a moment and then she is fine. But it is very concerning because she does a lot of sports and at times she is temporarily shut down and or in pain and can't focus.
