I had a Tight rope bunion correction, hammer toe correction and third toe correction on June 30th. Good recovery walking in tennis shoes and now my foot is swelling from the ankle to the poor toes. Why after 13 weeks I started having swelling? My doctor says it could last up to a year?

I just had hammertoe and bunion surgery almost three weeks ago and the pain is so bad especially the second toe. Nerves got cut and my foot jerks and the pain pills made me sick. When Dr took off bandage on day 5 was stuck to skin and I cried like a baby and at 2 weeks when he was removing stitches the same pain. I wore high heels for years and open back shoes and that is what caused my hammertoe, just on left foot so far. I did not have a problem with bunion and did not even know till Dr showed me the X-rays. So I had a piece of bone cut from big toe and a screw put in it to keep it straight.
I still have pin in second toe for 2 more weeks and so afraid to have it pulled out, since I've had nothing but pain. I told Dr if I knew it would be this painful I would not have had it done!! Still elevating foot and staying off of it as much as possible. So just expect pain and if you can take pain pills do as directed.

I had a tailor's bunion repaired and a pin put in my 3rd toe. I can't even move that toe and the pin is still in and the doctor said I will be able to move it it's been 9 weeks. I can tell you from my experience I had that same thing with the jerking of the foot and it eventually stopped about 4 weeks post op. I didn't know why it would do that and the doctor said it's normal. I finally got my sneakers on at 7 weeks post op and I have been going for physical therapy my second week and already seeing a change. I highly recommend physical therapy if you can go go. All I know is this is a long recovery and I am hoping it's worth it in the end. Hope you are doing better.

I had my little straightened and two next to my big toe it is very painful. It's been a month and my toes went numb. And I can't bend them in. The doctor said I will now have limited movement in bending my toes forward but that's part and parcel of straightening toes. Iv took another month off as I'm in job barbering so on my feet all day. It's painful it hurts but a pain you can cope with, iv not even attempted to my foot in a normal shoe even though my doctor said I could the swelling goes down and still comes back. I'd say you need a lot of time for recovery. I'm just hoping the pain goes soon as I'm prone to limping.

You're either embellishing or outright lying. I'm one week into my hammer toe surgery & keep my foot up most of the day, ice every two hours & I'm generally agood healer. I am still using a walker/crutches & can only put slight pressure on heel only! Pin won't come out for about 4 weeks post-op. You CANNOT walk on the foot or wear normal shoes that soon. Are you sure you aren't miscalculating your timing?

Hello,
I am scheduled to have this surgery as well shortly, so trying to find out the total recovery period, can you please help me with some answers?
When were your stitches taken out?
How long did you have to wait before you could walk in normal shoes (is 3 months enough)?
Thank you so much!

I am 12 weeks post on for both bunion surgery and hammer toe surgery on the left foot. Surgery was successful. I work from home so I returned to my desk in four days after surgery. Next foot will allow 2 weeks. I also have the stiffness and swelling in the hammer toe but the bunion is doing great. Still in a surgical shoe for six weeks, after one month in a cast. I will do the second foot asap. It's not as painful as I expected. Take meds as prescribed and follow instructions.

It's been 6 wks for me. Avid hiheel & dress wearer.. missing my shoes terribly! Missing wearing MATCHING shoes! :( I've been in a post-op shoe for 6mos, we tried 'conservative' ultrasound therapy for 4 mos, b4 doing surgery 6 wks ago. I'm still not able to walk without major limping, & now other parts of my foot are in pain from compensating.. & my ankle is now swollen daily from flexing foot upward bc incision site at base of toe is still painful. For 1st 4wks, I did nothing but put foot up & ice. Then, pin came out, & I've been trying to get back to some parts of my life, like laundry, light cleaning.errands ... the basics. In more pain now than before. Starting to get discouraged & regretting it. I was prepared for UP TO 6wks of not being in a reg matching shoe, but I'm not seeing that happening anytime soon. :(

I'm with ya, sister! I'm at 6 wks, & nowhere near what I'd expected. I'm walking with crutches, still, bc now that pin is out & I'm 'walking' on it (still in ugly post op shoe) I'm compensating so much, that I now have ankle pain & major swelling by days end. I did surg shoe for 4mos PRE-OP to try conservative therapy.. obviously didn't work. I'm now in surg-shoe 6.5mos! (6 wks sinc surgery, tho). I'm so done walking wth a limp.. my hips and ankle so sore.. can't do anything comfortably.. & getting majorly depressed. Can't even plan ANYTHING bc I have no clue when I can walk again. So far, not worth it. :(

I had my stitches taken out two weeks after the hammertoe surgery, right foot. I am 71 and tend to be on slender size. I am having my pin removed
in six days. I saw a YouTube video of a pin removal; the woman seemed to
be experiencing much pain. This scared me. Please respond. Thanks.

Try Ultrasound. scare tissue has always been a serious problem for me so i bought an ultrasound machine or you can go to a physical therapists and have them use there big ultrasound machine but it really helps. I can't figure out why all doctors that do foot surgery doesn't have everybody to this.
