Thats not always true...i was on high doses of prednisone from the time it hit the market in1969( born with a staph infection in my lungs) ,i was 2 until i was almost 15yr...i have all the side effects of long term use and high dosing (80mg a day),but my bones are not brittle, matter of fact they are very strong..now 32 years later i am back on it because i had a transplant...taking prednisone to bodybuild is just silly,  the side effects of that steroid is very damaging if used in prolonged use and dosage does not need to be high...do your homework..look it up..its not one for bodybuilding..

I have been taking prednisone for 3 days. it made me sweaty and gave me stomach upset but it got rid of my lower back pain from arthritis after an auto accident in 2007. I was prescribed it for frozen shoulder but it sure it is nice to not have back stiffness and pain for a few days!

i had to start prednisone for a breathing problem and found it was super for breathing well again. Unfortunately it causes sleeplessnes, agresion and weight gain.So a short taper will do the job and I have to live with the side affects. Gotta breathe!

Predisone should not be used unless prescribed by a doctor. It is for medical treatment only. It will not help in building muscle. If you are not working out sufficiently, you will gain fat and water weight. I have been on Prednisone many times because of Ulcerative Colitis. If you have been prescribed the drug, it is obvously for good reason, as this drug is not taken lightly. Just keep up a good diet, lots of protien, only just enough carbs that you need to perform, preferrably fruits, veggies and whole grains, and avoid fats. On top of that, keep up a good workout regimen an do enough cardio to combat the weight gain. In my experience, when I have followed this plan, I have done great. Also, VERY IMPORTANT, follow the doctor's directions to a tee. Take the exact amount directed, the the exact times. Tapering off correctly is very important to your health. I wish you the best, I know what it is like to have to take this stuff. Also, don't listen to the negative a** holes on here, stay positive and do the right thing and you will be fine.

Hello. I just wanted to give my input because there seems to be a lot of ignorance on here. I have been on prednisone for over 13 years. I have a kidney transplant, so that's why I was started on it. Unfortunately, I must take this drug the rest of my life, because my adrenal glands no longer naturally produce the chemical this drug replaces. There is no known cure for this, and there are nasty side effects. Because of the prednisone, I have osteoporosis and major joint issues at only 24 years old. My vision is deteriorating every year, and I am already at over 20/200 vision (it's so bad that it can no longer be measured in numbers) and I am legally blind without correction (glasses or contacts). This drug has awful side effects, and I will be dealing with these the rest of my life. Should I ever have an episode of rejection (body rejecting transplanted kidney), I must be put on extremely high doses in excess of 30mg of prednisone to combat this. When this had happened in the past, I had to be put on more medications because of the horrible side effects, and I almost lost my job because of my mental state (severe mood swings and anger outbursts. Constant sweating, racing thoughts, even worse anxiety issues, random crying and paranoia). The sweating was so bad in fact that I needed to bring 3 to 4 extra shirts and underwear with me every day. When I first started on this drug, I had all of these same side effects until my body got used to its presence. This drug does have great medical benefits, however. It helps your body fight infection, it helps you heal quicker, it helps you retain muscle mass (does not help you build it though, and with low activity it will make you lose muscle mass). It has many uses that help many people with different ailments. It's used in everything from cancer treatment to fighting a nasty staph infection. To answer your question, it is a corticosteroid (not an anabolic steroid), and it will not help you build muscle mass. It will not help you be bigger, faster, or stronger. The ONLY workout benefit this drug may have is helping you retain your muscle mass. However, the side effects and long term effects of this drug FAR outweigh any benefit it may have to your workout regimen. Please, do not take this drug unless you are directed to do so by your doctor. You will absolutely regret it. Even if it is for short term use, you could damage your body permanently. Some people have horrible reactions to this drug, some life altering. Even death. You could go into adrenal shock which will kill you if no treated immediately. Please, be safe and be careful. You are actually better off taking small controlled doses of an anabolic steroid than taking this drug. If supervised by a professional, anabolic steroid use can actually be safer than prednisone. Wrap your head around that.

Look into a Paleo Diet. I say "a" instead of "the" because there are different verions of it depending on your issues. You will have to live with UC for the rest of your life if you listen to your doctor. Take control of your health. Read Primal Body Primal Mind. Listen to or watch Chris Kresser. Stay away from wheat.

Hey dude, I hav UC as well and would highly recommend looking into do it yourself (DIY) fecal matter transplants. I have been able to come off all medication, including prednisone from this procedure. Hope this helps

I could write a long essay on the negative side effects of this drug, but I'd urge anyone thinking of using this drug to do their own research because this is not a drug that is helpful unless you have medical issues. It is used not to strengthen your body, it will do the opposite.

One user claims he used it and took himself off due to negative side effects, but it's a drug that needs to be tapered off unless it is used to "shock" your system like for MS.

Whose the Mor*n? Your telling some one to inhale protein which means to breath in not eat or consume! So I would be careful when using suchbig words

hi. I have been prescribed 100mg of prednisone for the past month and it was just lowered at 50mg this week by my doctor to treat ITP (low platelet levels) I lift daily and take protein after each workout. My progress is about the same as before the medication started even though I gained a few lbs. 200 up to 208 in the last month. The worst side effect is the acne. Can't wait to get off this drug.
