immortal one: wait a minute, herb is illegal?!?! wow! thanks for pointing that out! i don't think anyone knew that! really helpful...

ANYWAY

The internet is the last place you should be looking for an answer to this. There are way too many people all contributing their own points of view.
you really need to talk to a licensed DOCTOR.
But I'm still going to contribute mine: cannabinoids are not capable of doing any physical harm to the human body. however, there is a consensus out there that it can inhibit child development.

Just keep in mind that if you get high, then your baby is also getting high. I don't think anyone would think its cool to smoke out a baby, post-natal. Why would this be any different?

why in the world you not stop smoking? weather or not it is proven weed effects the baby. why would you tak the chance? I feel bad for you. You obviously dont deserve to be pregnent. Any female in her right mind will do anything to keep her baby safe.

I do have to mention a few things here. Shamefully I did smoke during my whole pregnancy with my first daughter and to this day I have nightmares about it and have always thought...."what if I did stop?" "Would have it made her 10x smarter?" Though I ended up having a 9lb baby and she was healthy as could be! Most amazing child. Holding her head up at Birth. Walking at 9 months. Now she's 3 1/2 and weighs 39 lbs and the height at 3' ft 4". Smartest thing ever! I smoked way too much and I was young. Not really knowing what the mother thing was all about at a fresh age of 18. Never had a drop of alcohol. I am now pregnant again with my second child at 4 months. I believe I have smoked at least 4 times. With 3-4 hits at the most. Reason behind this because you can't drink. You can't smoke. You cant do anything out of the whole entire 9 months of pregnancy and knowing that you CAN'T makes you only want to try harder to do it. We can't help that. Though at least we can point out that it's wrong. Doesn't mean we dont deserve to be pregnant. Such as Meth users and people who do crack do end up having children that are all screwed up. POSITIVE evidence to that. Children's teeth eaten away broken. Decaying and so forth. At least during this second time I have put more thought into this and do really care. That's why only 4 times Isnt going to affect it. Even though I do have living proof with my first one that smoking while pregnant doesnt affect anything. I think all woman are different and when they do have a low birth weight it's because of genetics.

Yes it is illegal for some but many places use it for manicipal purposes.. i am 8 months prego am trying to quit smoking.. I have Multiple Scleorsis and my symptoms can be worse than the pregancy many times.. It is the only thing that makes my body feel the least bit better... Not the "high" but I physically feel better when I smoke.. I am going to quit within the next week but am tempted to get a midwife because,, theratening with CPS is just another method of government control. There is no law that I even have to have my baby in the hospital.. Doctors many times use there position to make others feel unnesscaryaly looked down upon, when the individual lives in ways that they might not agree with. "morally"

To the genius that said weed makes the chances of Autism higher, check your facts. There's many things thatcan trigger autism, many believe that it is caused by wheat & dairy. All that I believe can happen if you smoke weed during pregnancy is your baby can come out lacking a few brain cells, and maybe grow up to be a stoner just like its mamma :-D

i would love for all of you who are against smoking to wake up every single day for 3 months straight and experience the joy of throwing up am to pm all day..throwing up everything that you come into sight with. Not getting any nutrients into your body not even a glass of water or gingerale. So you go eat a cracker and instantly throw it up then come back to me.

Many people do throw up constantly morning to night while pregnant. My sister threw up throughout her entire pregnancy, and had to be admitted to the hospital on several occasions due to lack of nutrients in her body and severe dehydration. She did not light up a joint when she was feeling okay for a second or 2 though.
It's ultimately your choice what you do. I smoke cigarettes. When I found out I was pregnant I smoked for another 4 days, and I had a drag of a friends cigarette at a Bad Religion concert. Every time I inhaled I felt guilty for what I was doing to my baby. I have not had a cigarette in 2 months. I may smoke again someday, but I don't feel I should force my bad habits onto my unborn child. Also, people who are stoned are not fun interesting people. I smoked pot for years, and I watch my friends do it now and wonder if I was that sad when I was stoned. I wouldn't want my unborn child to be stoned, it's a sad thought.
Again it's your choice.
Remember one thing though. A girl I have known since childhood now has 4 kids. She was told by her doctor when she got pregnant the first time she could have a drink here and there and it would not harm the baby. So throughout all 4 pregnancies she went out and had the occasional drink. The last child was born with fetal alcohol syndrome and almost died.
You can continue your habits and have 10 kids and they'll all be healthy, but then again it may only take 1 child for you to see the harm you've done.
And if you felt it was okay and no harm would be done, then why are you asking?

I also am pregnant, 5 months, and probably about 10 times since I've been pregnant I have taken 1 hit of weed. ONLY 1 hit, I swear. It got me a little high, but each time I would get paranoid about the baby. So I decided not to do it anymore until I'm not pregnant. Do you think just 1 hit about once every 2 or 3 weeks has caused damage to my baby? All the research I can find is about women who smoked regularly. I barely ever smoke. Also I never have smoked cigarettes, even before I was pregnant.

You know i think that it is really funny how all of these people on here who are so against smoking weed while pregnant and smoking period i really think you should do better research before you come on here telling people that there hurting there children by smoking weed. Why are you so concerned with what other people are doing that involves weed? Are you as guilty as they are? I have smoked weed since ive been pregnant and the doctor even told e that smoking weed is NOT harmful to me or the baby. Weed is illegal because it impares our judgement its called THC m****s.....the next thing your gonna tell us is wine gonna make my baby looked cross eyed right? lol seriously now. You have your perfect little life you perfect little children and your worried about people smoking weed? Look at yourself in the mirror and tell yourself to shut up! Its not that we dont care about our kids that are growing inside of us its the fact that if we were to quit smoking ciggarettes it is more harmful than not smoking ciggarettes while the baby grows.. look it up its a true fact! so ill smoke my weed and my ciggarettes and ill keep getting my positive results about my baby.

They are actually doing studies in Canada on the benefits of smoking while pregnant to ease morning sickness. Wow we have a bunch of conservative bible beaters here don't we. How many kids born in the sixties mothers smoked....I'd dare to bet over 50% . Some people just need to be a little more open. All of these studies are not conclusive because the people tested are always doing a different drug, ie tobacco, alcohol, and other illegal substances.

Okay first off what the hell were you thinking smoking pot while you pregnant? Do you not realize your caring a human in side of you! Look up on google and see what it can do. Hope your kid comes out normal

My sister chained smoked cigarettes while pregnant and her morning sickness was awful.

What makes you assume that because I'm against drug us while pregnant that I'm religious in any way? You are seriously confused my friend.

You can find any research on the Internet to support your point of view. You can also find evidence on the internet that the Holocaust didn't happen, doesn't make it true.

Grow up! If you want to continue smoking pot, go right ahead. My sister in law did. And when her baby was born and was sick and almost died and they found drugs in her system she was immediately taken away. But I'm sure the drugs in her system were just airborn toxins, no the fact that she smoked a joint everyday while pregnant.

But I'm just some girl with a perfect life that couldn't possibly understand. Or maybe you know nothing about me and I'm just as entitled to my opinions as you.
Oh, and I'm Canadian by the way. Born and raised, still in Canada and there is no such research. But hey, if the internet said there was it has to be true. 8-|

While I don't recommend it, there's little risk in smoking weed while pregnant.

And yes, there was a study done by the Canadian government which was published outside of the internet which showed minimal effects.

Basically the babies that scored lower were high when they left the mother. When the weed wore off they scored the same as "normal" babies. Once again I don't recommend it, but it's not going to kill your child, nor will it cause any permenant harm.

Then there comes the claim that smoking pot while pregnant can lead to childhood leukemia, which is a joke. In a controlled test .5% (half a percent) of parents with children with leukemia admitted to smoking pot during pregnancy. The fail to mention that the other 99.5% didn't.

The bottom line is, if you know you're pregnant, you should probably quit smoking pot until the baby is born just for the reason of being more aware of your surroundings to protect your unborn child, and as a "just in case" precaution. However, if you find out you've probably been pregnant for the last month, you don't have to worry about it coming out with any problems it wouldn't already have from all the toxins we consume every day (plastic cups and bowls=bad...for one example). There are MUCH worse things you can do to your unborn child, like alcohol, tobacco, meth...you name it.

This was published by Health Canada.
"Women who use marijuana during pregnancy are more likely to have premature or underweight babies. As the children grow up, they may have some learning and behavioural problems."
That's what they are saying about marijuana use during pregnancy. Guess they forgot to read the outcomes of the study they paid for.

I have been given so many booklets to read by my doctor and the hospital since I found out I was pregnant and they all state that any use of illegal narcotics should be stopped immediately. I guess our government forgot to issue the new booklets after they had women use an illegal substance while pregnant.
Marijuana is still very much so illegal in Canada. It is legal for medical purposes only and must be prescribed by your doctor. Medical purposes meaning persons with aids, cancer, and other painful illnesses. I don't doubt that someone decided to do a test, but I think you are mistaken saying the government paid for it. We're not as stupid as the rest of the world would like to believe.

I'm sorry if I offended you, but I have nothing at all wrong with Canadians. On the contrary, I love Canada. My grandma, grandpa, and father were born there. Nor did I mean to imply you are stupid.

In fact, I'm the one who goofed up. I said it was the Canadian gov. that did the study, when in fact it was Carleton University that did the study.

I in no way condone smoking pot while pregnant. And if someone finds out they are pregnant I'd stronly recommend quitting. I just wanted to show that the risks were very much over blown by other studies (like the leukemia part of my post), and that if you find out you've been smoking pot with a child inside of you for the last month or so that you shouldn't worry about complications because the risk is much less than once thought.

Sorry for the misunderstanding.
