MY DEAR: Please ignore all the misinformation written here, especially the crude comment that you should have an abortion. What you do with your body is up to you. you have a right to refuse a tox screen unless the doctor has a reason that your health is suffering and hurting the baby. CPS would laugh if a doctor called and said a mother smoked weed, unless, again, there were severe health issues in the mother or fetus. PLEASE! I have called CPS many times, as I work with at risk families, they only respond if a child is in immediate danger. Don't worry, autism is one of the most common disabilities today, and researchers believe that maternal stress is a huge factor. stress when pregnant - look that up on the internet. all of the participants who wrote rude comments to you can blame themselves for causing more damage by passing along STRESS. self rightouseness is ugly, and remember that it was Jesus who told us something along the lines of ' judge not, lest you be judged'. i don't think any of us are perfect, we do the best we can. god bless you and your baby! -Julia

I found out recently that I am pregnant so of course Im on the net doin research....I am a smoker myself and I wanted to see what people had to say about it...well First I would just like to add that I am a daughter of a heavy pot smoker and my mothers mother was a pot smoker, my father as well as my grandfather also smoked....None of us has any sort of problem in life, school, or whatever else you say it MIGHT effect...I think the worst thing I can say is with all my family being pot smokers it probably influenced me to smoke pot but that has to be the worst thing it has done to me personally...with all that said and with what I have read I am going to continue smoking (very moderatly) until 4 months before I deliver because it comes through the breast milk...smoking in small amounts is really helping with my morning sickness I have almost no appetite on the days when I dont smoke and I dry heave all day just one puff gets me eating and keeping it down!
So yeah thats all I have to say about that.....good luck to all you mommys out there!

All of this information has definitely helped out a lot. I too am a mommy to be and smoked pot before I became pregnant. All my friends say that their parents smoked before they were born and they were fine. But i wanted to do my own research before i did it. Althought the research on most of the website i have looked at are all inconclusive, i still believe that smoking pot may have its risks. And thats the point, you never know. SO why no just be safe, and sacrifice the weed to make sure that your baby is safe. I can do it for my baby...

smoking whilst pregnant isn't good it can cause all kinds of problems and even defects to you and your unborn child.how are doctors supposed to give an honest answer when most adults that smoke pot refuse to admit to there doctors that they are smoking this highly addictive drug smoking cigs causes damage and people use cigs to add to the pot in joints cause it can cause damage ,why people continue to smoke throughout pregnancy obviously don't have the child's best interests at heart other wise they would stop until the child is born rather than continuing and causing unknown damage it is just common sense if you are not sure of something and its effects then just dont do it your unborn children deserve the best that they can get and getting a fetus high is not the most brilliant idea now is it NO

hey! i found some links for you to see if you would like. i don't judge and neither should anyone else. there has been no conclusive evidence that smoking can harm your baby, in moderation it can aleviate many discomforts due to pregnancy. in canada they are running test trials on allowing women to smoke while pregnant. and it isn't necessarily true that your doctor will report you, mine didn't. i asked her if it was acceptable to help with the morning sickness and headaches. she said, as always, in moderation it was fine. both of my kids are still in my custody. no one will tell you to "go ahead, get high", but they will tell you that there is no scientific evidence that it harms the fetus. there are ways that you can boost oxygen levels for your baby, i.e. consume huge amounts of fluids a day. so don't worry too much about what everyone says, do what works for you!!

Um, anyone on here saying smoking weed when you are pregnant is safe, are idiots. I have a masters degree, and did much study on the effect of drugs on the unborn, and yes marijuana does have negative effects on your unborn baby. Its a proven fact that smoking anything when pregnant reduces oxygen to your baby. I mean my god, when you take your 1 month old and blow smoke in their face or better yet hold a joint up to their mouth? Pretty sick thought, huh, well that's pretty much what you are doing when smoking when pregnant. I smoke weed everyday, but you can bet I will not be SELFISH enough to keep smoking when I am pregnant. A friend of mine smoked weed the whole time she was pregnant and guess what her son, has hearing problems, and was slowed in his development of learning to walk and talk. Its a proven fact that when children whose mothers smoked weed when pregnant, on average are slower at learning to read, write, and also at overall comprehension related to reading and writing. So come one, don't be freaking selfish, how bad is it to stop smoking for nine months out or your life rather than risking the health and well being of your child for the REST of their life??????????

Wow, you mothers who think it is ever okay to use drugs while you're pregnant are pure s**m. However, what worries me more than the lifelong effects your substance abuse will have on your children (seeing as you don't care enough to stop for just 9 months) is the fact that these children will grow up with a mother who cares far more about her own selfish desires than the well-being of her children. You aren't fit to be parents. Casey Anthony comes to mind.

What kind of mother would do anything that could negatively affect their child? If there's even a slight chance it could, if the research is not clear, a good mother would avoid it just in case. You are endangering your child and committing child abuse.
My mom smoked occasionally while I was pregnant. I was appalled to hear it. But she was ignorant of the effects, and not all that bright.
If you know there are potential dangers, and you do know there is the potential for harm to your baby - if you are aware of these dangers and still smoke while you're pregnant, you're willfully putting your child at risk. You can't claim ignorance. You're a bad mother.
I'm not religious either. I'm an atheist. My opinions are based on facts. The fact is, plenty of other drugs should not be taken while pregnant, and guess what - marijuana is a drug. It gets you high, and it affects your baby.
A good mother would take a look at the information available and see that some studies show there very well may be negative effects, potentially lifelong effects, on the children of women who smoke during pregnancy. A bad mother will ignore those studies, looking for someone, anyone, to agree with what they want to hear - that it's okay to continue to abuse substances while pregnant. If you only hear what you want to hear, you should be aware you're fooling yourself -- you want to smoke, and you don't want to feel like your selfishness is going to harm your baby. Well, it is. Stop fooling yourself and wise up. Be a real mother.

Women have suffered through it for eons and I've never heard so much bitching and whining about it before. If you didn't have weed you would find a way to suffer through it, and a real mother would suffer through it too if weed was not available. Cry me a river.
Have you ever thought that withdrawal symptoms from marijuana could increase the intensity of your morning sickness? Stop making excuses.
Oh, and if you think I'm some sort of conservative, hell no. I choose to kill my brain cells with various substances all the time. And I'm for the legalization of marijuana for personal use.
But - imagine this - I'm against child abuse. Using drugs that may harm your baby is child abuse. You have no right to abuse your child in this way.
Have you not read up on how teenagers who smoke tobacco, smoke marijuana, or drink often end up with substance abuse problems later in life? What the hell do you think will happen if they're exposed to it in the womb?
If a child's parents abuse drugs, they're more likely to abuse too - there's a genetic factor and an experiential factor (nature & nurture). Do you really want to potentially magnify their risk for substance abuse by smoking during pregnancy?
Don't gamble with your child's brain. Don't gamble with your child's future.

That's no proof at all.
The fact that you have nightmares about your first child and still smoke for this one regardless - words cannot express.
9 months?
I was a heavy drinker but I started to get into trouble. I haven't had a drink in 9 months. I had a reason.
If you really gave a sh*t about your kids you would see an addiction counselor to help with any pangs.
If I were your husband or boyfriend or whatever I wouldn't let your stupid ass smoke. If I were your friend, I wouldn't let you smoke. If I didn't know you at all, hell, I might let it pass. Why should I care if some random w**** f**ks up her kid?
If your child is not reason enough to stop abusing, what is?
You may never know the effects your smoking has had on your children.
You already have guilt, and for a reason. You know it's wrong, but you make excuses for yourself. Excuses won't change what you've done.
I think I'm done here. What is wrong with humanity?

Once again, there is no conclusive proof that marijuana harms unborn babies. My best friends wife just gave birth to a pair of perfectly healthy twins, and she smoked marijuana the whole time.
I'm not saying it's perfectly safe, but it's far from the "If you smoke pot your baby will come out with three arms" logic of those bound and determined to further tarnish the reality behind a simple herb. I can think of at least 7 (out of hundreds, if not thousands no doubt) OTC and prescription drugs that will do far more damage to an unborn baby than pot, an herb, ever would. If you smoke weed and become pregnant, then you should stop, but don't worry yourself sick if you found out later.
Not to mention a lot of the products we use every day have the potential to harm an unborn baby (ex. plastics, Teflon, aerosol sprays, cleaners) And on top of that, you can rest assured knowing that after your child survives all that, he or she then will very likely be prescribed amphetamine like alternatives for their "ADHD" like ritalin and adderall, raising their blood pressures and greatly increasing their risk for early heart attack or stroke.
Basically, children nowadays are exposed to health hazards much worse than marijuana on a daily basis. It's very likely you're doing more harm to your child by unintentionally inhaling the fumes from the gas pump or from the cleaners and sprays you use around the house than you would do by smoking a joint every once in a while. The only thing being somewhat harmed is your lungs from breathing in combusted materials.
If there's no conclusive proof it DOES harm an unborn child, and no conclusive proof it DOES NOT, as one user wittingly said, then that makes it neutral. Just remember that if marijuana had a huge risk of defects or the such, that there WOULD be a lot of conclusive reports showing that it does pose a large risk, and since there's not, it just shows that the government was exaggerating the risks of marijuana and science and common sense were being overlooked.
Look, I'm just trying to comfort those who are being called "evil" and "s**m" because they smoked a joint when they were pregnant. God forbid all the babies conceived and born under the influence of marijuana during the 60's and 70's, and ironically could very well include some of the marijuana protesters on this topic today.

No, stupid. Neutral is not smoking. The neutral state is where you put as few chemicals as possible into your body, and into your baby. Any chemicals you add have a chance of harming your baby.
I already explained this. Don't smoke = 0% chance of harming your baby with marijuana. Smoke = X% chance of harming your baby, where X is positive. Therefore it is not neutral.

I am 31wks preggo and I have smoked a couple small bowls a day throughout my pregnancy. I quit drinking alcohol, almost completely eliminated cigarettes and have followed all eating/drinking restrictions given to me by my doctor and my baby is doing perfect. I haven't had any complications (btw, my ob knows that I smoke pot and it hasn't concerned her at all!). At every appt, the doc and nurses just keep telling me that everything looks great, her heartbeat is super strong and her weight gain and growth is right on track. Anyone who says that it is immoral to smoke or that anyone who does smoke while their preggo doesn't deserve to be a parent, doesn't know what they are talking about. Continuing to smoke pot not only helped me survive the horrific 'morning sickness' but has kept my blood pressure in check and has kept me relaxed. Of course, smoking anything may result in a smaller birth weight, but this doesn't always happen. My lil' one is actually in the 90th percentile for her 'age' and hasn't seemed to affect her at all. To tell you the truth, I think it has helped her, not harmed her.

Dang-all of you people that keep talking as if you are all YELLING AND CUSSING at everyone . . . go smoke a joint! DANG! I think you need it more than the rest of us. 8-|
