Mine started with a pain in my left side like between my hip and rib cage. Since early July it has migrated to the mid left back...the pain are almost coliky. Coming and going. I went to ER because I honestly thought it was a kidney stone...after all tests they came back with severe constipation...had me take miralax, and eat activia everyday. I have a colonoscopy sched for Oct. I'm thinking I'm gonna see if I can get it sooner, because I have now lost 10 lbs sice going to ER, and it has me pretty worried. Yes the pain still comes and goes...feeling like maybe gas pains or something. They are pretty severe when they hit, but last no longer than a couple of seconds. Happens a lot throughout the day though.

So I went back to the doctor again yesterday (same one) to advise her that the issue has come back - not that it was painful but moreso that it was back. I told her my stories of the past month & a bit & after telling her that I was absolutely fine for about 3 weeks UNTIL our tip visit where I was throwing stuff she still advised me that she thinks it's a muscle related issue ie me damaging/straining one or a few of my intercostals....I requested an ultrasound only
for her to say she really doesn't think it's necessary but that if anything I might've hurt my back to begin with & somehow damaged a disc & therefore that can move things around in my rib area...she have me a referral for a CT scan for my back but she said its only if I'm really concerned but wouldn't suggest that I need it?? So I'm back at square one :( Woke up with my feeling more intensely this morning but then again the doctor WAS pushing around slightly on the area yesterday so that could explain this mornings 'extra' feeling...am back on all my supplements aswell as Comfrey Ointment my sister suggested as it helps inflammation inside the body......just thought I'd add an update. Not sure if I should seek a 2nd opinion or not or just wait & take it easy for a few weeks to see if I recover again.

I have had this problem off and on for about 2 years. It returned and stayed for past 2 weeks. I have noticed a connection with high blood pressure, high salt and high sugar/simple carb intake. Get a wrist monitor from the drug store and check your blood pressure during these episodes. Also, don't use salt in preparation or on your food and cut out desserts for a couple of weeks and see if the sensation lessens. Manage your weight to an adequate level too as obesity can trigger high blood pressure and the sensations you have. Gas and bloating from skipped meals can do the same.

I had the problem for a short while last year - approx 2 months and then it went away until about a month ago. Now it is back with a vengeance. After getting no joy out of my family doctor and a battery of tests, a online dr in the US suggested one of 2 things. He said it is 1. An enlarged spleen due to liver problems caused by statin drugs or other drugs, or perhaps alcohol. In this case usually pain both sides under ribs. Other reason - most likely - 2. Back problem with a disc about same level as the pressure - lower back causes sciatica and higher up you do not feel it localised but in the rib area such as pressure or pain - usually left front under rib cage 2nd to 3rd rib up - often mid diagnosed as wind - if you move your body around bending spine from side to side you can feel relief - as sciatica it can go away and come back for no seeming good reason - you may nt even know you have a back injury - may hav happened years before - I went to physio - immediately fixed after manipulating disc back into place - I had obvious prolapse disc but could be more subtle - hope that helps

SOLUTION - see my other post re Back. It is almost certainly your back - disc prolapsed - you normally don't feel much localised but I was advised that it was likely my back at about same level as pressure under rib cage and I went to physio today and it instantly went away when he manipulated disc back into place - get that CT scan done!

It can be a stomach hernia.

I have this feeling too and its really, I mean REALLY uncomfortable. Its a bubble feeling under my left rib but sometimes I feel it on the right side too.  I find myself in awkward positions to try to minimize the discomfort but its hard. It makes me all squirmy and I'm not usually the type but this discomfort has me moving around like I legit have ants in my pants. Anyways, I'm starting to think this is stress related. This comes and goes but this is the first time I had it for four day in a row. I did experience some lung issues recently, I don't know if this is related to that.

I have this same feeling, started about two months ago. This is a perfect description.
Do you still have this sensation?

Yes...unfortunately I do. I thought it went away but now its come back. Ive had xrays done, CT scans done and its all come back clear...the doctor is guessing however that ive pinched something in my back and this is the end result. I dont think shes incorrect but she has had NO other means of explanation....mine however all started with an intense sharp pain at 3am many months ago. It comes and it goes (no pain anymore, just the balloon under the ribs feeling) which is good but then again its very inconvieient as I cant exercise or do things i normally do because it flares up rather quickly :(

How did your feeling start? Did it start with pain and then subside to that balloon in your side feeling or did it just appear??

I too have this very same issue going on since my father died late July of this year, not long after my grand mother passed as well. And that issue is a dull almost like a burp pressuer in my left rib cage just under my breast. I'm 42, male and had my gall blater out in 2004. Early on I thought it was heart attack but EKG was normal. So stress is most likely the cause. From this forum I will next ask my doctor about Irritable bowel syndrom. I do find relief after taking an antacid. Needless to say -- God bless the internet and it's ability to spread the word. I do see the pattern here and it is a bit of relief that it's not heart related but most likely intestinal and my nemis over the past 10 years.

A korean health itenary visiting here offered a product called HEMO HIM which has 4x strength of all found in ginseng. I'd tried their particular brand ILHWA rated as best by their Govt and likewise was found to be so everywhere. Use of it cured many ailments including blood sugar problems. Never got Flu or any gastro problems. But back to this midrif intestinal on /off burning hot sensation. Does anyone find this fades away later at night with a sudden increase of appetite?

My just started as a feeling of pressure on my right side. I have not changed my diet or anything. I've had a CT scan done as a precaution and will get the results tomorrow. As cancer runs in my family, I can only hope it is gas. I haven't done anything to pinch any nerves. Sometimes at night especially, I can feel it when my heart beats. I don't notice it much when I am standing, mostly just when I am sitting. I've tried drinking more water, et cetera but to no avail.

I'm sorry, misstatement there. Never had a feeling of pressure on the right side. It has always been on my left side. No problems with the right side, only left.

wow. I too have presssure on my left side under rib cage and can feel pressure on that side when I am laying on my left side. Right side is fine. All blood work is good. waiting for a ultra sound of stomach and ct scan. Now it seems pain has moved to lower back on both sides but I think that is stress related. I feel bloated and full all the timeso have to eat small meals. I Hope to get answers soon. thanks for sharing, it helps to know I am not alone.
