After I had my gallbladder removed I started to experience diarrhea and acid reflux. I also had symptoms of bloating and gas. I was so upset and embarrassed that I started to question the operation. I was desperate and tried a whole bunch of diet suggestions and nothing seemed to provide the desired results.
So, I went to GNC and the attendant recommended enzymes. I tried their brand and got results almost immediately (next day), no diarrhea, at last!!! Just two capsules before meals.
A couple of weeks later I started to get huge improvements with the bloating and acid reflux. I'm so happy. No longer have I found myself in embarrassing situations where my stomach makes loud funny noises during meetings at work.
However, you need to follow a healthy diet - low fat, high fiber, and lots and lots of water since constipation might be a problem.
The enzymes that I using is Preventive Nutrition® Multi-Enzyme Formula:

But I suspect any will do. In my case, I'm sticking to was has worked for me. By the way you will need to take them for the rest of you life. I missed one or two days and the previous symptoms started to appear.
I've read about a lot of folks with the diarrhea problems and some are using Questran but this is chemical junk with some interesting side effects. I prefer the "natural stuff".
I wanted to share my experience since my quality of life has greatly improved with the enzymes.
Best Wishes!!!

I had my Laparoscopic Surgery 14 days ago, and for the first week I was very sore but able to eat. I still am sore, but for the last 3 days everything I eat does not agree with me, between the stomach cramps and the diarreah I am starting to feel like instead of making things better I have made things worse. I'm beginning to feel hopeless and helpless towards my own body. And i'm wondering if I should demand to see my doctor or just ride it out?
I was 33wks pregnant when I had mine out. It was open surgery. I had this done 3 mos ago and still have pains (insicion) and lots of diarrhea. I had my baby 3 wks after the open surgery. I think I still haven't recouped from the whole ordeal. Just wanted to let you know I have had bowel probs too.... Its been VERY hard to lose the baby weight too. :-(
I had my gallbladder removed in January of 2007, a few months after my son was born. I am still having pains and here recently I am getting them all the time. I also get diarrhea for several days and then I get to where I can't go. I feel week alot and then there is some days where I feel fine. I also was told that I now have cyst on my ovaries and I don't know what's wrong with me. If anyone could give me some advice I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!!
I had my gallbladder removed about 2 years ago. The surgery was something that had to be done, because I was in agonizing pain. The pain and annoying constant trips to the bathroom, however never have stopped. Now I find almost always after I eat a meal I have terrible stomach pains and I find myself running to the bathroom 20 minutes or so after I have eaten. I have had to even cut shopping trips short, and just go home because of the discomfort. I am not sure if there is any type of medication for the discomfort, but I would really like to know if there is.
I had my gall badder removed aug 1,08. I began getting sick 4 days after ,its been 15 days i am running a fever of 101.5 and have right rib pain that goes to my right shoulder, I went back to docter they found bile by my liver and they said that was normal i am so sick and I can not get no help. every day my temp is from a 100.7 to a 101.5 is this normal after 15 days after removel of gall bladder
Thank you to everyone for sharing your stories. Its so helpful. I had my gallbladder taken out in December of 2007. At the time I was 23 and the docotors thought it couldn't be stones because I was so young. I was hesistant because I believe in more natural choices. After lots of research and speaking to a couple doctors it was the best choice. I didn't have a lot of pain after my surgery but for a month or so had bouts of constipation and diaherra. A month or so after my surgery I started having really bad diaherra but only at breakfast. I'd get up extra early to eat breakfast before heading off to work or school because I'd be in the bathroom 3-4 times in an half and hour period. That's gotten better but I've gained about 10 pounds since my surgery. I still excerise and don't eat worse then before but weight gain. I've been really frustarted trying to figure out what's going on. I remember women at Curves telling me about this problem and everyone's stories have really helped. I have to get that supplement kit that someone shared. Thanks a lot. It really helps to know other people are also experiencing these things and it makes it less confusing and embarassing.
I had been vomiting 10+ times a day for 9 months. I was in an extreme amount of pain and lost 80 pounds. We had no idea what was wrong. I was diagnosed with Lupus and other disorders but no one would tell me what these symptoms would be from. So, my husband told me after he had seen enough, he was taking me to the hospital. The surgeon stated that not only was my gallbladder full of large stones, I also had gain-green poisoning. They did emergency surgery and I was told all was going to be 100% better. Well, now 2 years after surgery, I am having the extreme acid reflux, heartburn and am having allergic type reactions with extreme pain and cramping and having to be near a bathroom at all times after eating beef, pork and now chicken as well. Is there anyone out there that is having the same issues?
how do they remove ur gall bladder by laser?
I had my gall bladder out in June 2008, and overall, I feel better. For about 8 years before the surgery, I accumulated an extra 175 pounds. No doctor could figure out my problem. Now, I have lost about 70 lbs, but still have a long way to go.
I experienced the pain, nausea and bowel changes for the first three months, then started to feel better. I changed my eating habits A LOT. I don't eat pork or fatty meats, EASY on the salt (because it makes bloating worse), no sodas or gassy vegetables, and absolutely in no way, shape or form do I eat fried foods or dairy products. I tried eating french fries a month ago, and I felt miserable for 2 weeks. I have found that changing my eating behaviors has given me a more positive lifestyle - I'm more active, energetic and overall more positive.
I, however, certainly agree that going out to eat sucks now. I look at the menu, and I can't have a cheeseburger or wings. It's depressing. I did find, though, that elimination of milk, eggs, butter and yellow cheeses made a difference. Most of the time I get a grilled chicken breast with a salad. It's an overall healthier choice.
The weight loss part is plateauing now, so I have to work a little harder, but I know it will come off. If I have to alter more, then I will.
Good Luck to Everyone!

Hi TheNewMrsG
I had my GB out just before Christmas and since then I've been either slightly constipated or more the other way so it's quite comforting to think that this will sort itself out in time - although it doesn't seem to be the case for everyone. Here's hoping.

I had my surgery in Oct. I was so darn sick prior to the surgery, and lost 35lbs. So, I was very happy to have the surgery. I felt better immediately. I have experienced some bowel problems and a little nausea. As with all other posters, I do have problems with fatty, greasy foods. Cooking with olive oil really helps. Dairy products dont seem to bother me much. Sometimes, I dont know what causes an attack. I have ate pizza hut pizza several times since I had the surgery, but last week I had a horrible attack after eating PH Pizza. I was on the toilet within 20 minutes and cramped horribly. Had a belly ache for several days following. All in all, its getting better each month. I do take a nexium every day as I was diagnosed with acid reflux as well. I have kept the 35 lbs for the most part.
%-) I had my gall bladder removed in January 2009, Alot of people told me that I would feel much better after the operation. My head hurts all the time I've had a CT scan done it was negative. Constipation and gas are my worst enemies. Sometimes I panick and don't eat for days wondering will I ever function normally again. Is there a cure for gas or constipation ? Do walking really help?
my gb was meant to be a key hole job but when they got in they couldn't see it. now i have an 8" scar from open surgery. my gb was infected and stuck to my liver and other bits around. i had leak and a drain bag filling with green mess for 9 days before they would let me out.
in years gone by i used to get bad heartburn but sorted it eventually with diet and stopping drinking (i wasn't a big drinker either) then last november i was violently ill one evening and was admitted with inflammed and infected gall bladder. i had 7 days in and a real bad time with temp upto 40 deg.
2 months on in jan it was all over but 8wks on after the initial runny bum i've gone the oposite way. constipated. so off to the doc and he gave me Movicol to shift things its worked but not brilliant and for good measure i have gained the most hideous oderous gas that there is. my wife says i need to go to a special home where everybody is the same. it is quite bad.
since my op i have eaten pretty much what i want but have had reflux on occassion. prob meals too big more than anything.
i'm going to try and eat smaller portions and see what happens.
I went into hospital last november tipping the scales at 15 stone and came out 7 days later 13.5 stone.
when i came out after the big op i was 12.5 stone but have got to 13.5 again.
anyone got any good tips i'm all ears.
scar is sore and lumpy
moving in bed is an issue still but sex is not affected still good.
oh yes i'm 49 male

I had my GB removed last Thursday...my dr told me I could eat whatever I want now. I understood it to mean...trial and error...well, I guess last night I found my first error...OUTBACK! This was the first red meat i've eaten and I got a pain that was WORSE than the 3 attacks I had right before my surgery. Doubled over. Couldn't move. Sweating profusely. High Fever...
Am I never going to be able to eat meat again?
Not that I'll die, but I just don't want to keep trying if there's no point.
I lost over 40 lbs not eating meat...and I finally got myself to a great weight and have been getting into shape...I would hate to think this was all for nothing!
Please let me know!
OH - also...prior to the surgery, I hadn't been eating anything by clear broth and non-fat crackers...so, the attacks started on March 1st(out of the country), I was back in the country on March 4th and in for surgery on March 5th. I'm a 33 yr old female who had a PERFECT gallbladder until 2 months of IV Rocephin for Lyme...I still wonder if I really don't need my gallbladder!
