I had my gallbladder removed three weeks ago. Two days after gallbladder removal diarrhea started and it is yellow. Is this common after the procedure? Should I aspect other post op problems?
I had my gallbladder surgery 10 years ago and still have symptoms. I have seen several doctors and literary they were of no help. My retired doctor Dr. Andrew Lipton had some suggestions and the following is what seem to work for me.
1. Have your doctor prescribe cholestryramine. They come in 4 gram packets. Mix 4 grams in 6-8 ounces of juice in a shaker and drink this before bedtime. Unfortunately, you may need to wake up in the middle of the night and urinate but that is a small price to pay. Cholestryramine combines with the bile acids and neutralizes them. It is the bile acids in our intestine that causes the stomach pains.
2. Stay away from dairy products. Raw milk and ice cream I fine the worse. Usually more processed dairy foods such as cheese and dairy products in cakes is OK.
3. Don’t eat anything after dinner. A lot of people eat a nighttime snack. This is a NO, NO. It will force you to generate more bile and that is not what you want at bedtime.
4. When you know you will be away from a bathroom, such as when you are traveling, have you doctor prescribe you lomotil. This is will make you feel normal again for about 24 hours. This is a narcotic so you cannot continually take it. It will lose its affect if take too often. Taking it a few time a months is probably OK.
5. Another thing that seems to help is using a dietary supplement such as digestive enzyme’s you can purchase at a health food store. GNC, Whole Foods, etc. These enzymes will consist of Amylase, Lipase, Protease, Glucoamylase, Maltase, Lactase. Take 1-2 tablets during you meal.
6. Stress certainly does not help, but one cannot avoid it. However, stress is not the cause of the stomach pains after gall bladder surgery. It is the bile released in the intestine.
Hope this helps. ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** private e-mails not allowed*** Please read our Terms of Use
Just wondering if you can develope an infection almost a year to the date after the removal where the tissue and scars are? I cannot figure out if that is what is making me sick all the time. It hurts, and other blood tests are pointing to me to say there is nothing wrong with my liver or pancreas. I am worried.
Thank you for your information it was great!

i had my gallbladder removed 6 months ago, the pain is much better but i still have trouble eating almost everything. within 30 minutes after any meal the diarrhea starts. i don't have cramps or pain, but the urge is strong and i know i have to go. but i am always very bloated and have gained weight. i would think as much as i go to the bathroom, i would have lost weight.
I had my gallbladder removed nine months ago and I've found that after I eat any meats, or starches I have diarrea 5 to 30 minutes after I have eaten. I don't go out to eat because it is so embarrassing to have to go every time you eat. I have lost over 15lbs and bloated all the time. The weight lost is not good since I am a small person anyway any suggestions
Have your Doctor write a scrip for Cholestryamine powder by Sandoz oragne flavored powder in a 378 gram container. Take one scoop in orange juice every morning (NOT NIGHTt) The 378 gram container is half the price of the single dose packages...your problems will be over and you should be able to eat anything you want.

When do i have normal life???????
i had my gallbladder removed 2 weeks ago, it seems ok as of now!!!!
I had mine out 5 weeks ago. I had no symptoms prior to this until one morning I left my house on a business trip. While driving 30 minutes, I started feeling pain in my upper ribs. Being a male, I blew it off. I then started getting a pain in my gut on the upper right side about another 30 minutes later. Again, being a stubborn male, I blew it off thinking it would go away. Now about an hour later I'm getting bad pains in my gut and a horrific stabbing pain below my right shoulder blade and feeling really bad and unbelievable pain! Next I found myself in the back of an ambulance being pumped full of morphine on the way to the hospital where they determined my gallbladder was shot and I needed surgery. When the doc cut me open (not laparoscopic) and touched my gallbladder he said it ruptured and was one of the worst he's seen. I spent 4 days in the hospital and was released.
Since then, I feel like someone punched me in the right upper ribs, belching a lot, and have this constant bloating feeling. BM's are a c**p shoot ;-) where sometime I have to go almost immediately and other times not for 2 days. Doctor said it could take up to 6 months to get back to somewhat normal. I can deal with that for the most part but the soreness on my right side in a "real pain".
Hello, my cousin recently had he galbladder removed and 6 days after she died of liver failure and they dont know why. she had went into the hospital a couple days before she passed away complaining about how much pain she was in and they told her that it was just gas from the surge and sent her home. now my question is could this be conected in anyway
Gall bladder removal 5 weeks ago. I can attest to the foregoing. Cannot eat even the modest size meals previously consumed. I am back to the my regular exercise program. However, I know that I will be able to only eat small meals from here on out.
