I had my wisdom tooth out 1 week ago. Went ok for me untill about day 3. Day 4 I went back to surgeon and he prescribed me to rinse with steroids as I had gotten 2 mouth ulcers. day 9 and i've woken afetr 3 hours sleep with trobbing pain. worst pain so far, dont know if its the ulcer playing up or a dry socket. i had stopped taking the strong pain killer he gave me, oxynorm ,going back on them now. have to go back to see him again today. i must be one of the unlucky ones. I got all four of my wisdom teeth removed 5 days ago. They were all just slightly impacted and were easily removed. I started swelling up as soon as I got home despite following my Dr.'s directions on icing my cheeks. I haven't slept in 2 nights because of the pain. I'm taking perscription Demerol, but nothing seems to help. I've done the salt water rinses, brushed, iced, used warm cloths, and tried just plain tylenol. NOTHING HELPS. I feel an intense pressure in my jaw up into my ears, along with a burning sensation where the stitches are. Is this normal? No one I know has had this much trouble with wisdom teeth removal..

Hmm.. I haven't really had my wisdom tooth removed so i had no idea but I think, you can take lots and lots of sleep and rest. It take some painkillers to ease the pain. I'm sure you'll get over it. You'll have to be patient with it. And take some drugs to stop the bleeding.

I'm 31. I had all 4 wisdom teeth removed 6 days ago. All impacted. Bleeding was bad when I got home but I was able to stop it with Black Tea Bags - after 3-4hrs. 2nd and 3rd day were the worst. Lots of swelling and discomfort but not a lot of pain. Day 4 - no pain meds at all just salt water rinses and swelling started to come down. Day 5 and 6 back to work but still not 100% activities. I'm in the middle of Triathlon training so I exercise a lot. Everyday is an improvement and so far no BIG issues. Tomorrow is a checkup so I'll see what docs has to say. The big deal is the diet - mostly soft veggies and constant hygiene (rinsing with salt water, keeping the wounds clean, etc.). I think the hygiene makes the big difference in healing process. Heading to the gym now after a week on the couch.

I Just had all 4 impacted wisdom teeth removed. I was advised to have surgery and go under the anestetic however due to cost differences I had them all pulled out in the chair. I think if you have them removed in the chair your recovery is much better. They are doing the exact same procedure only your awake and paying less mind over matter is what i was told. Day 2 now and im in zero pain I havent even needed my pain killers and iv been eating anything I wanted. Keep your mouth clean with chlorhexidine mouth wash 7 times a day take non steroidal anti inflams max 8 a day and dont touch poke or prod the area with ur tongue. Drink lots of water and sleep with your head elevated

I had my wisdom teeth removed on Thursday, August 5th (2 days ago) and it still hurts to eat anything more than pudding and jello. I was just wondering when I should try to eat more solid foods. They have me on Norco for the pain (not exactly sure what that is but it's knocking me on my butt...all I want to do is sleep) and on penicillan for the prevention of infection. I don't remember much about the procedure. They put the IV in and the room began to look foggy. I could still see everyone in the room but I didn't really care...I was so loopy. I felt a lot of pressure with them taking out the bottom 2 but couldn't even tell you when they took the top ones out. I even asked afterwards if they even took the top ones. My bleeding wasn't really that bad either but I left my gauze in for an hour before I changed it out. I did skip brushing my teeth the first night after my surgery but brushed them last night without hardly any pain at all. I also rinsed with salt water and I'm not sure what that did but I was told to do so. Like I said it's my 2nd day after surgery and overall I guess I'm feeling pretty good...just wish I could eat more than pudding and jello...any suggestions on other things I can eat?

Hi,
I had ,my lower right wisdom tooth out Friday morning and it took 2 dr's1 hour to remove it. I didnt get given the option of being knocked out so was fully awake for the removal. I am still in absolute agony, despite taking painkillers. I was not prescribed anything by the hospital and was just told to stock up on painkillers. I have a really dirty taste in my mouth at all times and am paranoid that my breath is stinking as i keep getting puss coming out from some where. 1 of the stitches fell out this afternoon as well despite them not meant to disolve for around 14 days.
I cant open my mouth fully and am in so much pain. I have managed to get another appointment at the hospital tomorrow so hopefully they will be able to help me with the pain and the infection. Any suggestions on how to get a good nights sleep till then?
Thanks
Sarah

I had 3 wisdom teeth pulled 4 days ago. It is 2am for me right now and I am awake because of the pain. I was given Ibuprofen and Percocet for the pain. I need to contact my dentist and get more Percocet because the Ibuprofen does not take away the pain and I ran out. For some people it's different but I know for me right now the pain is about a 8 out of 10.

I just had both my bottom wisdom teeth removed yesterday (11/20/10) at around 11 AM. The right one came out with such agony. That tooth had been hurting 1 week prior before the extraction b/c i had an infection and the gum had swelled prety bad. They prescribed me antibiotics 3 days b4 the extraction and most of the pain subsided. But when started to take out that tooth it felt like HELL!, the oher one came out with no problem (i didnt even feel it). Its the after i got my teeth extracted and had no swelling, but its hard to talk and open my mouth all the way. Ive been eating oatmeal and this ground up wheat that is like soup. i havent brushed my teeth since yesterday, im afraid of doing anything to get dry socket.

If anyone knows how long after teeth extraction the chances of getting dry socket are over, Id like to know

I had all 4 teeth extracted 8 days ago. They were all slightly impacted but I had no pain from them. I was given Amoxocillin for infection, predisone for swelling and percocets for pain. I had no sweeling and little bruising but around the 5/6th day the pain started to increase and I had a horrible, metal-like taste in my mouth that wouldn't go away. I went back for my follow up visit on the 7th day and told my dentist that I was having more pain now than in the begginning and that it would wake me up in the middle of the night. They gave me a syringe like tool to clean out the holes and said that would fix the bad taste in my mouth but offered no help as to why I am in more pain now. I am considering going to a regular doctor because one side is starting to swell now and I am not able to sleep for very long without the pain waking me up again and ran out of pain killers 2 days ago. If I had to do it over again I would have just had the top teeth extracted because I've had no problems with them healing.

I had all four wisdom teeth removed this passed Tuesday. In the process the oral surgeon fractured my jaw bone. I'm 19 with a 2 1/2 year old little boy and I'm finding my self stuck in bed w excruciating pain, and nothing seems to work! The pain meds prescribed to me don't work and I cannot seem to find anything to compare this pain to. To give you maybe a small example of the pain, I have given natural birth to a child with no medications and the child had a 19 1/2 in head and this is worse than the pain I suffered then!
