I always suffered from shaving until I began to use an exfoliating wash glove before I shave. Then I use Skintimate shave lotion and a Venus Razor. But you must first let your legs heal first before using this method. Using the exfoliating glove has realy helped and I have yet to see any red bumps or itching.

I don't get bumps on my itchy legs. They just itch like crazy and all I want to do is scratch them. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night with my legs up in the air scratching them.

It is quite possible that your skin is sensitive and razor can be nasty thing, leaving all those scars and cuts making you more prone to bacterial infections, ingrown hairs and bumps.

I'm awaken by my itchy legs at 3 AM right now, and so I'm trying to find some good answers / a better solution than what I'm trying right now.

I've never had itchy legs in the past.
I've always used the nice expensive shavers like Venus all my life. Until recently I was cheap and decided to buy disposable 3 packs from the same brand.

When I was using the cheaper blade I felt the difference right away while I was shaving. It was not as smooth and seemed to scrape/exfoliate the skin.

I have always used shave cream only when I needed an ultra smooth shave.. and even when I used regular soap it wasn't a problem in the past with good razors.

Anyway, after using the cheap razor for more than 3 - 4 times... I started noticing the itchy legs that everyone here has experienced.
I'm pretty sure that the itching is coming from the hairs growing back.

0. The cheap razors scrape the skin differently than the expensive ones.
1. Eventually the skin's surface heals from the scraping/extreme exfoliation from the cheap razors
2. Hairs are unable to grow back out in their normal way through their original pores
3. Hairs are trying to grow out of small pores
4. In-grown hairs apear
5. Scratching begins.

So I'm just waiting to buy myself a new expensive razor now, and also I'm using a needle to carefully pick the stubborn in-grown hairs loose. (Some of the scrubbing products just don't go deep down enough to get hairs that are coiled into the skin)

I'm still awake from the itchiness tonight because the hairs grow out in different stages. Some are faster than others. So I just need to tough it out this week.

But since I've been holding off on the cheap blades and loosening the in-grown hairs... I feel that the bumps are less, and the itchiness has been less over the past 2 days.

Was just checking out other ppl's ideas to confirm my theories.

I think the legs are itchier when it gets hot - in shower, or in bed when they are all warm and toasty.... mainly because hairs grow when it's warm and also when you are sleeping there is a growth spout happening during sleep. So the hairs are actively growing during sleep and heat.

Ever notice that your hairs grow faster in the Summer months? it's from the extra heat... faster metabolism and growth.

Ok.. Hope everyone has better legs after reading everyone's experiences.
Good night.

I had the exact same problem, and a few years back my GP told me that it was just eczema, but i didnt believe her. I went online and tried to find some information that would help. I found out, that my red bumps, actually looked like this skin rash type thing called keratosis pilaris or something like that, which is hereditary and cant be cured. I went back to my GP and she refered me to the dermatologist who has helped with the bumps. They are still and will probably always be there, but i moisturize and exfoliate everyday, and thats helped quite a bit.
sorry if this doesnt help.

something to help reduce itching when/if any of the above suggestions don't work out, tea tree oil (or any tea tree based creams). works brilliantly for me when I get really itchy legs after shaving.

i've been having this problem on and off for years and its back on again. I was told by a dermatologist its becaue I am allergic to the nickle they use for the razors. They recommended cetaphil lotion which helped for a while. Then I was okay and now I am back to the problems again. I read in allergy book that when you itch to rub ice cubes on the area and I found it helps, otherwise I'd tear my legs up (and its from below the knee no where else). What I have been doing that helps a bit is when I go to shower, first I put on the cooling satin care shaving cream and let it sit for a minute. Then I get in the shower, the gel naturally runs off. Then I use expoliating body wash on the legs and then apply the sensative skin satin care shaving gel. I then proceed to shave (and I turn the shower off when doing this). After i shave i put on sensative skin body wash and let it sit for a minute. I then rinse off everything.
Then, and the doctor suggested this, instead of rubbing legs dry, I pat them leaving a little moist. I then use nivea lotion and gold bond powder on my legs (I use the extra strength powder). I use the powder 3 times a day and it helps the most.
Hopefully what I do can help someone else

after doing some research I read a lot of good things about sea salt baths so this past week I would soak in bathwater mixed with the sea salt. i do not itch now when I do that (I do it daily and shave while soaking). I dont have to put on aloe, lotion, powder, etc etc. Not saying it will work for all but it makes a huge difference! but it has to be sea salt and its best if its dead sea salt (if you have health store you can typically find it or order online) or if not dead sea then a pink/grayish color as its the most natural. Thought I would share it with youall. My lower legs are the affected area and they look horriable so hoping with a few more weeks of soaking the rashs, etc will clear up!

My legs do the same thing! It's so frustrating. I have found that if I apply Nair (or some similar hair removal cream) for a minute or so, rinse it off in the shower, and THEN shave, my legs are perfect.

I used to get bad bulbs whenever I shaved. It stopped when I started useing a scrub on my legs before I shave. Iv used many kinds of scrubs, sea salt scrub in the natural section in stores. Now I'm useing a acne face scrub cause I ran out of body scrub and it works great. I get no numbs anymore.

i think it may be because of your razor you might want to use a new one ever probably 1 and a half week or so if you are reusing a razor that some else has been using that might be part of the problem i dont know maybe you should go see a doctor
