I have a similar condition, and if yours is similar to mine, let me know. I'm going to try some different things and see if it just goes away.

Questions:
Do these pulses occur on one side of the body? Mine is pretty much just the left side.
Can you trigger these pulse by moving your head or back in a direction of about 45-90 degrees? I can trigger this effect usually if I turn my head and shoulders in one direction.
See if this effect goes away with around 400mg of ibuprofen. Could be swelling and pressure on a nerve.
Anyway, I put everything I know about my condition below.

My condition and exercise:
At 42 5'10 1/2, 176lbs, I'm having a similar issue that's persisted for about 3 weeks now. I'm experiencing sensation on the left side of my body and double tap sensations to the head every 20 seconds or so (the sensations in the side are not as much as the left side of my neck and face). I don't experience any pain. I lift weights 3 hours a week (around 4 x 45 mins a week), and do about 6-8 hours of cardio a week (I play b-ball). I sleep 8 hours a night and I have 121/71 blood pressure with a steady 58 BPM on pulse most days.

I notice that when I lift weights for a session or play b-ball, the symptoms become greater subsequently; however, if I take 400 mg of ibuprofen, the effects lessen to almost nil. About anxiety, I'm pretty relaxed and don't get rattled easily. I am pretty much satisfied with life and love exercising.

Diet:
I am heavy on the protein, but I don't leave out complex carbs...I stay away from sugar and have not had a beer/alcohol in over 8 months. I pump plenty of micros for muscle reactions and take plenty of B's and D's (usually take 2x multi vitamins on workout days because I sweat a lot). I use Animal Pack for joint/ligament support. I am staying a bit below my TDEE taking in 2300 kcal a day. I'm not currently, nor have been on any prescription drugs.

My thoughts on what caused it:
My likely is is related to some sort of spine/disk issue with pressure on the nerves. I do dead lifts and jump squats--135 lb. jump squats (I do this so I can still dunk a ball...), so I'm thinking that is a possibility since my disks probably hate that. The other possibility is that I've been building muscle in my middle back and that is causing pressure on the nerve pathways there (I've had some rear shoulder blade pain recently--gone now (had some deep tissue massages to try and work that out...temporary sensation results occurred...for about 20 minutes, but the shoulder pain is gone). I've also pinched a nerve in my lower back about a month ago, but I never stopped exercising...the next day I lifted weights (light weights) and played b-ball the next day. This could have caused more injury. Another possibility is something related to the inner ear...clocked myself in the left ear with earbuds in doing tricks...hurt a bit, but didn't think much of it, but unlikely because the problem with the sensations appeared over two weeks later.

What I'm going to try going forward:
I'm going to eat like a horse, lay off the excessive exercise, make sure I'm getting all my vitamins, get massages, cut out the jump squats (lol), tone down my b-ball playing (I used to play 10+ hours a week lol, damn my knees used to hurt a lot), take anti-inflammatory over the counter meds, and see what comes of it.

Just wondering if anyone here might be sensitive to either caffeine &/or erratic (varying) daily levels of caffeine? Just an uneducated layman' thought. God Bless You All, & I am sorry for what you're going thru! Also, *please* consider taking a trip to your nearest "teaching (university) hospital" or "tertiary hospital" E.R. or it's' directly-affiliated internist or general doctor if you live in a small town or area with poorer quality healthcare. You'll probably get more answers & better treatment.

Best advice yet! (Getting a scan of the arteries in your head!) May take a LOT of asking & convincing of your doctor, or maybe **completely changing** your doctor, to find one that agrees & will order the scan(s) for you!

I have "episodes" of pulsating, like a heartbeat rhythm in my head that I get daily for about 15 secs. I feel dizzy with some visual depth perception changes. Sometimes my hearing echoes the pulsating. After getting an MRI I was diagnosed with a brain tumor the size of a grape. My Nuerosurgeon doesn't believe my symptoms are from a tumor. ENT said my ears are fine and the fullness feeling is caused by the tumor. My Nureologist is sending me for an EEG to check for seizure activity in my brain. I'm also getting an MRI of my neck and spine. I have no headaches, just neck pain. My vision was checked and I have perfect vision.

I understand this post is old but... the waves of dizziness almost like a quick flush is a symptom of withdrawal from anti-depressants that you are describing. Lexapro and other anti-depressants\anxiety medications change brain chemistry levels and when you stop them and your body starts coming off them that is a main side effect. It is always better to halve the medication then only take half a tablet when you have the effects. Within 2 weeks you wont need it any more.

Missing more than one dose of Celexa/citalopram has always resulted in this symptom for me. I've been taking this med for several years, I'm currently gradually stepping down and switching to a different antidepressant and it's back, yay

I came off citalopram two weeks ago and now I get these pulsating dizzy spells. They come in pulses of 1 to 6 very rapidly with a high pitched tone, it's over in seconds. Movement of my head, eyes or a loud noise will trigger it. Went to the GP and he sent me for an X-Ray saying it could Arthritis, this came back showing 3 vertebrae are affected! He said this is causing pressure on the arteries and in turn causing the dizzy spells? I am not convinced though? Why would noise cause these spells? Or is it coming off the Citaloprom?

Hi, I am also facing this weird pain in centre back of my brain from past 2-3 years. I haven't done any scans/tests yet but once doctor told me it's happenning because of the cold weather. I usually feel the pain at night or sometimes when i wake up. It lasts for few hours and I'm unable to do anything. I've noticed one thing if I keep my head stationary and don't move it alot, it doesn't hurt alot. If I bend over, while drinking water it gets worse. Sometimes it starts causing pain to my eyes. So far the best solution I found for this problem is "sleep". Maybe my brain gets tired or soemthing like that. After few hours of sleep, it's gone. If anybody find any cure for this please please contact me

This dizziness happens to me recently. I was at my wits end.
I recovered a high fever a week ago, and the pulsating started after I recovered. I have no idea what's the cause of. I feel no pain, just PULSE, and constant vibration.
After 5 days of vibrating/throbbing/ pulsating head, I went to er because I feel numb on hands and my jaw hurts like I was about to have a heart attack.
I wasn't, doctors rule out maybe it was a panic attack. I was admitted and doc prescribe I cant remember the name, And the pulses decreased,.
Adter a Xanax good night sleep, the pulsing decrease and doctor said I have vertigo which I don't really sure because the world is not spinning. I JUST FEEL MY HEAD CONSTANTLY PULSING INTENSELY!which sometimes even make my head vibrate.
I was discharge with still a little tremor , but now all I can do perhaps maybe get a 2nd opinion and just try to rest a lot.
I just cant agree completely that anxiety is the whole culprit, I know I was a little depressed before this pulsing happens, but this thing is still happening and I just hope it will stop.
I just want to go back to feeling normal.

If you have been spending many hours everyday on the computer, you probably are having a tensed neck or back. Try acupuncture, neck stretching exercise, yoga or massage. Avoid computer as much as you possibly can.
