Thanks for your post. we all who quit around 6 years ago are no more coming and sharing our experience on this forum but we should for the new comers. I share my experience. I started smoking from 15-36 for 1 pack a day and Its been 6 years since I quit smoking at the age of 36 and same like you my journey was very rough for the first 2 years and now its been 6 years but I am still struggling with anxiety which I never had in my life when I was smoking, all other issues are fixed and I have better stamina and better body but anxiety is still there. I have never smoked in these 6 years but sometimes due to Anxiety I think of starting vaping. Quitting smoking has good impact on your health but sometimes it masks few of the health issues in my opinion

Can you let us know how did u go with anxiety when u started vaping? If nicotine is helping you why don't you take nicotine in gums or spray form which is safer then vaping?

Those are exact same symptoms I have been having! Exactly, and thinking I felt better smoking with my fourth year habit’! But NEVER would I ever start again! I’ll continue and I’m sure things will come together as far as feeling better! And it doesn't help by being diagnos d with emphysema! But still better to give it up so i can live longer by slowing the progression of the emphysema! Early stage emphysema, so now I will finally take an interest in my health and stay healthy! Or get as healthy as I can! Stopping Smoking was a big big challenge for me but I did it and so can you all!

Hii

Quit 3 years ago n people wanted to know how iv been doing. Not that great to be honest!

In the beginning og 2014 indecided to quit smoking. I was over loading myself, working too hard, smoking 20 bnh a and i used to inhale as deeply as i could as well as slowly exhale out the nose. It was my go to when times seemed rough. But slowly i started to feel presssure on my chest like my chest was full of air and exhaling would seem a chore. So i thought thats it il quit and just like that without any aid, payches or substitutes i let of of what was once my buddy. Id like to say it was an easy ride but for me the majority has been anything but.

When i first quit, like many on here, the first few weeks seemed to be the best. Lungs was full of clean air, smell had came back also taste and chest felt good and in general i didnt know why i quit sooner.

One day i was on goin to see someone and i felt a slight chill as well as a bit of dizzyness but. It started to get worse and intensified. Within half a day, in that same day, i had what appeared to be reallly bad chills. No matter how hot it was i felt cold, dizzy and my head what going round. Whats worts is that it all happened in a day. I think its what they call quitters flu !

As the days went on this feeling rendered me useless, mostly in bed and had the following :

Dizzyness, chest feeling full had re appeared with a vengence, felt unbalanced but was walking and talking fine, palpitations, rapid pulse, depersonalisation, derealisation, anxiety like never before (always thinkin what have ingot, bet its this, has to be that) and so much more. Everything felt like a dream.

I took nothin to aid me, no medicane, no vape i refused to take anything else for fear of another addiction and to this day u can count paracetamols on a singular unit.

I have to admit i am much better than before but the problem is everything ive felt since i quit is still there only on a much smaller scale but bug enough to impact day to day chores.

The palpitations are my biggest concern be ause when i was smoking itd take a huge amount of vigourous excersize for them to reappear and after breathing deeply would fade away. Since i quit they have been there on the simple bouts of excersize, just walkin is enough. My back right up to my neck hurts like anything. I cant tilt my head doen as if im reading a book for long or it will ache really bad. My chest specifically sternum hurts worst on wakin up and settles during the day, that and the hyperventilation which i think is my breathing stuck as if im still smoking. I would carry on but as usual sitting in this position is begenning to ache. Theres so much more i wanna say. I think im at a point where im starting to question lighting up again. If inhad assurance all the aches would go away. The only thing thats stopping me is the factthe i must have accumulated good health by not smoking for 3 years. I think its safe to say the only way not to suffer this is by not smoking in the first place !

The anxiety is a special thing to manage. I believe that most smokers are anxious people by nature. So when they smoke the anxiety seems diminished. But when the smoker stops then the control over anxiety is more complex. In my case I had to take some Clonazepam (.5 mg) for a few years after quitting because I could'nt control it. Clonazepam is not strong but if you can ovoid it then it's better.

As for the nicotine, I do not like the taste of menthol and the spray was not making it. The vap does obviously because it goes strait to the blood. It's not the best but I believe better than Tar.

Hope it helps!

I was a 10-15 cigarette a day habit for 11 years. Then decided to quit 9 months ago. Although I'm happy about choosing a healthier lifestyle it has been a tough transition. The first 3 months I had severe anxiety, palpitations, sweating, nausea and acne. Then by 6 months I started with pain in my abdomen and indigestion. The nausea continued with off and on anxiety. Go an endoscopy and was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia and Barrett's esophagus(which can be caused by smoking). Always exercised but have to take it easy due to fatigue. With all of this I started acupuncture which seems to help and turned to natural supplements. I take DGL licorice, slippery elm to help heal my esophagus and it helps with heartburn making diet changes as well. Also take L-Theanine 100 mg a day for anxiety and it curbs that feeling of dread and melatonin for sleep. It sounds like a lot but we have to admit there's no quick fix for the damage we've done but trying to stay positive and trying to relieve it. Meditation can help as well. This is our step for better health congrats to all of you and stay strong.

PS. I'm 31 and 9 months smoke free.

You were taking anxiety medicine with Vaping which means going back to nicotine did not help with your anxiety? Are you still taking Clonazepam while you do vaping as well?

Yes for a few years both at the same time. One pill before going to bed. Most of my anxiety were in the morning and evening. Now it's just the vap.

I felt just the same after two years of stopping smoking,i'll never smoke again because i just can't afford it but there is something negative stopping smoking..sorry but there is.

I am bit confused if I should start vaping if that will help with anxiety as I never had anxiety when I was smoking but looks like u were going through anxiety while you were vaping so there is not much role of nicotine or there is one post from someone just above and that person said it will take some time for the anxiety to get fixed once you start smoking again.

Wile smoking I didn't have much anxiety. It did raise after I quit. During the first 13-14 months (Without the VAP) I had many episodes of anxiety. when I started the Vap it diminished but I still have it but much less. So your question is good, I'm not sure if it is the nicotine of my Vap or my Clomazapan.

Any success stories from people who started on nicotine again and feel well again?

I am also interested in people who went back to smoking real cigarettes or vaping and if it helped anxiety or BRAIN FOG. I have tried the mini nicotine lozenge but seem to have side effects of the lozenge (very bad blurred vision).

I don't like the Nicotine lozenge. Forme the Vap help very much

Seems like the key is a very low dose daily nicotine(

Exactly! but since Nicotine is a drug it's possible that you be tempted to have more over time.
