Hi,
I have recently quit smoking so in the same position as most of you guys.

I have been feeling better in some cases like my cough has stopped.

Iv been having issues with my digestive system. Where I have been reading lots on this and I also have been diagnosed with IBS and don't buy it.

80%of British have parisits which also cause these systems, I'm currently having a pariste detox.

I quit smoking 3 years ago and still suffer chronic constipation. Before I quit I was very regular down to the time. Now it's days without any bowel movement and constant medications to help. I eat foods high in fiber and get regular exercise. Quitting smoking definitely affects your digestive system.

Try taking coconut oil. It worked for me when nothing else did.

I am thrilled to find other people with same symptoms as me. I am 59, quit 2 yrs. ago. When I go to the doc. and they put you through the back xray, the ultra sound, the MRI, the colonoscopy, than tell you to exercise more and eat more fiber, give you metamucil. I still walk arnd look 6 months pregnant, burping and farting all night. I wish someone had a little help.

I was the same after 3 months of quitting. On someone else's suggestion I gave up drinking milk in tea and coffee and after a week felt much better.

Buy some probiotice sauerkraut. Not the stuff in the aisles, but the stuff that's in the fridge in the health food store.

Smoked for 35 years 1 + pack per day. Am so glad I found this sight (got a LOT of helpful suggestions!) as I experienced horrible stomach problems about 72 hours after I quit - gas, constipation, nausea, bloating - unbearable! I am smoke free for 3 weeks (cold turkey) and my stomach is starting to work again - gas and bloating almost gone. Everyone is different, but this is what worked for me:
Was already a runner - but exercise is helpful - moving helps everything move
Sushi/pickled ginger (clears out the gas - is a MIRACLE for me)
Daily probiotic
Carrot ginger juice (fresh - not bottled)
Aloe Juice (not too much)
Sauerkraut (life saver!)
Had to cut out carbs and meat and chicken and any processed foods
Baked potatoes and cooked vegetables (butter was fine)
Fresh fruit
Scrambled eggs (no milk-just plain eggs)
Ginger tea
Lentils
NO GUM or Carbonated water (both made it waaay worse)
Believe me - I understand a restricted diet on TOP of quitting is VERY TOUGH, but my stomach was worse than the cravings so I just dealt with it. Am now putting things like meat and carbs slowly back into my diet - so far so good. I wish everyone success - the stomach stuff is the WORST! Utter nightmare!

Hey buddy, it’s not IBS. Your absolutely right, some doctors are lazy as f**k. Get your colon and stomach looked at, get some blood tests done. Don’t trust doctors, it’s hard to find a good one. I smoked cigs and weed for 6 years. I just quit a month ago and I’m having the same issues. From what I’ve read, it’s normal adjustment. Stay away from GMO foods, only buy organic, and try to limit wheat, dairy and beans. Do a cleanse as well. I’m doing a parasite cleanse to rebalance by gut flora. Good luck!

It does take time for the digestive system to get used to the fact you are no longer smoking tobacco. The length of time it takes varies from person to person and depends on how often or how many years you smoked for. It will get better eventually.

I have all the problems you list except that I exercise vigorously. Don't think that is the problem at all.

I just discovered this forum and your comments resonate with me. Did you find a solution to the bloating?

You're exactly right. Made that same mistake of thinking I could buy a pack and smoke just one or two.
I say you can quit and smoke all the cigarettes you want, just not the first one.

I quit 5 months ago and my entire digestive tract is unbearable. GI Dr. just put me on low FODMAP diet but not sure how confident I am in this changing things. By the end of the week I am intolerably blown up, backed up, back pain, gas that is so embarrassing I don't want to go to work. I just need this to go away and I'm hoping time will straighten things out.
