Hope somebody out there can help me. My Lab, over 100 lbs seems to have broken off his canine tooth, and supposedly there is a black spot in the centre of it, indicating the possibility of exposed nerve or pulp. We have been advised that we need to put him under an anaesthetic to do a cleaning and further investigation to see if the tooth is absessed, or not. Then, since our vet can't do the extraction, we would have to take the dog to another city to get the tooth pulled, which means many $$$$$ for ferries, hotels, hosp. care, etc, plus the surgery. Has anyone ever heard of this? Could the tooth just be capped? The dog is 9 years old, and otherwise in good health. The tooth is not bothering him. Please come back. and Thank you.
