anal sex is the cause

When I finished my previous post (the one on Page 4 that starts 'Not much helpful to add - just solidarity').' I finished by saying that I'd let you know if I got cured, since that might be helpful. Well, I did.

In my case, it turns out that the culprit was actually one of the most basic possible: haemorrhoids.

The potentially useful/interesting thing is how long it took to pick up on this. I'd had my normal doctor, a specialist consultant and even a gentleman with an endoscope all look, and *no one spotted this*. I was quite miserable about it, since it seemed mysterious and thus unfixable.

So, I went back to my doctor and explained where it was up to, and that I wasn't really happy about the situaiton, and he sympathised and said we should try a different type of specialist. This time, I saw someone who specialised in problems concerning the anal sphincter, haemorrhoids and so on. She spotted it instantly. There was in internal haemorrhoid right at the edge, which sometimes pushed out, becoming external. Because it was formed from internal tissue, it produced mucus - and there's the problem. A few tactically placed rubber bands later, I'm no longer leaking. And, should it happen again, I'll know who to ask first.

In terms of advice, this amounts to asking about this specific possibility and making sure you and your doctor explore the different potential causations, not giving up if a strand of enquiry turns out to be a dead end. Getting the right specialist turned 18 months of embarrassing inconvenience and anxiety (and, increasingly, a degree of hopelessness) into a simple, readily-fixable problem.

In early January 2013, just when I was trying to leave in the early morning for a trip to Vietnam. I was suddenly struck with irritable bowel syndrome and the inherent severe diarrhea. Since I did not know, what hit me, I was fortunate to travel to a country, where not much gluten rich food is consumed To make a long story short, after cutting out gluten the severe stomach cramps disappeared together with the diarrhea. Unfortunately discharge of mucus and plenty gas remained. Drs. Oz and Roizen recommended in their column Kegel exercises as a remedy to stop the outflow of mucus. That is, of course, in my case a non-starter.

The gas has to come out sooner or later and when it does, the mucus hitches a ride and soils your underwear, no matter how athletic you sphincter is.

Last Christmas I thought I had it licked, when the mucus discharge disappeared about two weeks after taking pro-biotics. That did not last very long. even doubling the dose of pro-biotics did not improve the condition. While I am still working on resolving the mucus problem, here is how I am able to contain most of the related embarrassments in the meantime:

I use a single sheet of toilet paper, fold it in third one way and then again in half. That gives me six layers, which I then pinch into the sphincter. When the gas passes, this “mini diaper” blots up the mucus and lets the gas pass. It also dampens any rude sounds, giving you a lot of freedom, unless you have also an odour problem. My wife knows to date nothing of my problem. I remove the paper quickly, when indicated and my underwear remains clean.

Hello All,

I also have had thus "leakage" for a few years and no one can tell me why there is so much of it.
It's supposed to be there for lubrication for BMs.

But not so much that it leaks out. For the last 12 days I started a new short tern diet of no carbs. Just herbal peppermint tea in the morning, some unprocessed deli meat for lunch and mostly no carbs fir dinner.
It worked for the mist part. Some days there was NO leakage but some days there was just a little. It was so bad I have to wear woman's light day pads.

My point is, this excess fluid is food related! I also have serious hemroids which doesn't help control that stuff from coming out but it great not having the constant bloating, gas and leakage which inflames the hemroids so they burn.

I hope this helps somebody. I have been eating eggs for breakfast on occasion but when I don't eat anything except the tea and list of water I have none of those symptoms.

By the way, don't you think it's odd that all of these people are suffering from the same symptoms on this HEALTH web site and NO ONE that runs this HEALTH site know what this is or can refer us somewhere ?!!

Hey everybody. I have been having this same mucus problem going on eight months now. I'm only 18 and still a senior in high school and I am really really hoping to get this fixed before college. It all started early of 2014, I started taking a gnc vitapak and started working out a lot. For the first month or so I was completely fine, gaining muscle and everything was going great. Then I started slacking a little and not taking the vitamins everyday. That is when it all started, at first it was only a little bit hardly noticeable. It has just gradually started getting worse and worse. I have stopped taking the supplements since. I went to a primary doctor and he referred me to a colon rectal surgeon. He did an examination and everything was completely normal. He then prescribed flaggyl to me for two weeks. That didn't help the leakage at all and caused horrible diarrhea. I went back to that doctor next he prescribed me a suppository to stick up my ass before bed the next ten nights which didn't help at all. I went back to the same guy again and he just told me to increase my fiber intake like a complete as****e basically saying he doesn't know and told me to go to a dietician. Fed up with him I made another appointment to a colon rectal surgeon and he has me taking florastor probiotics twice daily for thirty days. It has been a week and no change. I have also tried countless other solution attempts to no avail. Here are a fee things I've tried Epsom salt baths Deodorant on my ass Toilet paper up there ( it worked for a while but now i just leak through the toilet paper and into my underwear. Increasing fiber Metamucil Even a salt water enema I guess from reading this my next step is to start cutting out different parts of my diet. It's pretty depressing seeing all these people suffering from this with no solition. I know for a fact I can't live my life like this. Before this I had big sights set for myself and was a good athlete. Now I am house ridden afraid to go out because I smell like complete sh*t and posting on an anal leakage forum on a Saturday night. After doing countless research I realize I probably won't find a solution but if you guys have found anything that works for someone with no hemoroids fissured or anything like that I would greatly appreciate to know so I can start to live like a normal 18 year again.

Mine was caused by a rectal fissure years ago.  I don't need surgery because there is no pain.  I do have a temporary solution that has worked for me.  I use a good quailty pantiliner, cut it in half, then fold it together making a wedge.  I stick that in my crack and trust me, it works.  No more irritation or odor.  You will get used to it quickly and forget you even have it in.

This is exactly what I'm experiencing with the addition of extreme pain and more so when I wipe. Could it be any kind of VD?

Topical application of iodine and antibiotic ointment in the anal area might help.

I am so glad I read everyone's postings on the internet. I am 51 years of age, female. Had chronic constipation all my life and also had hemorrhoids cosmetic surgery in 2005 after my 2nd childbirth. My problems with hemorrhoids had been only cosmetic but childbirth had exacerbated the condition. After the surgery it felt wonderful to feel normal and I had no problems from 2005 until 2-3 years ago. But since then the FI problem has been worsening and I have been so depressed and also defeated. I have discussed my problem with no one- not even my spouse. I am too deeply embarrassed. I must confess I contemplate suicide every time I am embarrassed with this problem at work. I have not yet been embarrassed at social gatherings but I know its only a matter of time- its like a ticking bomb! The most devastating part is not being aware when it happens and also not having any warning before it does. I have tried everything - from deodorants to increasing fiber to staying away from dairy to bowel training. It would work for a while and just when I don't seem to be looking it happens. It happens sometimes when I am routinely talking and there is this quiet undeniable sound and I am not even pausing. -it just bubbles out of me. It is absolutely horrifying when this happens because I am helpless to stop it. It is quite often smelly no matter how I try to control the odor- I have taken countless simethecone tabs- they dont work. I have tried giving up foods which I think makes me gassy but the list would include 85% of edible foods. My gastroenterologist advised me to take OTC gas aids which dont work. And my abdomen gurgles very loudly (borborygmi) sometimes. I was mortified one day when at a quiet meeting when my stomach grumbled so loudly it sounded like a horn blasting! This would be funny except that it wasn't when it happened. Dont worry I wont do the cowardly act- I am too Godfaring and my kids 15 and 21 still think I am tops, and most importantly, they need me and I will never do anything to cause them grief. After reading everyone's postings from the internet I plan to go put all embarrassment aside and ask my doctor for an anal US,MRI,manometry or anal electromyography for diagnosis and maybe even consider surgery. I hope this helps someone else out there.
