It's so good to hear others having similar problems.  I started drinking when I was 17 or so and never had a problem.  Around when I was 24, I noticed when I would drink red wine, my face would get very hot and turn bright red.  This would happen about once a week and I though it was related to anxiety and excited emotions, as at the time I was planning on moving away and starting school again.  It seemed to disappear for awhile, and now it happens VERY infrequently.  It did happen again tonight though and it was embarrassing and uncomfortable, because my face feels so hot! The biggest challenge is that it is so infrequent that I don't think taking benadryl before is a good idea.

I get the blotches, heart racing and also a taste of iron in the mouth. Happens usually if I drink while eating so I don't anymore. Dehydration is a no no. I can manage it well now as I know the signs coming on and I just go for a walk for 20 mins and return to drinking albeit at a slower pace. Guinness is not good for it and coke seems to be bad too. I'm Irish and it started at 21.

I get this exact same thing and was wondering if you found an effective treatment. Do you also get it when you drink coffee?

It literally put of the blue started at 21 foe me too. Being a super heavy drinker as a teenager. Just one night. Not drinking half as much as usual it just came out, and about once every 3 weeks since then it happens randomly

Alrighty for everyone out there who still reads this and for future people who might read this. Here we go.

First off the symptoms: red rash predominately around the face (usually follows the same pattern each time, very distinguishable), hot feeling around areas that rash is occurring, eventually scars, pimples, etc. will turn shades of red to redish purple as well, shortness of breath might happen but never enough to be noticeable.

Time of origin: it started about 2.5 years ago, I was around 19/20

Okay so my theory and a doctors theory - After having this extremely embarrassing problem happen I have spent countless amounts of time trying to deduce the causes/reasoning why, and I've narrowed it down to this: Alcohol is the trigger. I have literally bought almost ever different variety of beer, vodka, whiskey, rum, and liqueurs (both top shelf and bottom shelf types) and they all produce the same effect (NOTE: onset of symptoms varies though e.g. vodka triggers almost instantly where as whiskey takes longer). So alcohol is definitely one of the type contenders for the trigger. Reasoning Why: So between myself and consultations with a doctor we believe that the alcohol mixed with DEHYDRATION are the culprits. It's happened so often and under controlled experiments that I am 89% positive (i'm no statistician). Whenever I drink (binge drink or just one drink) i will break out if i am dehydrated. This is especially noticeable at weekend to week long events with excessive drinking, or drinking after working outside, etc. I also notice it happens extremely quickly if I adderall in my system (adhd). The doctor believes that is a result of consuming quantities of a alcohol at a younger age somehow affected the liver/body/mast cells/etc. and resulted in your body treating alcohol as more harmful than what it really is (I started drinking around 16, and didnt experience a reaction for 3 to 4 years so there is a time delay). That's the docs theory, as for myself i really don't know.

Cures: None (as of now, sorry people of the internet). But I have found ways to relieve it. My method if i know i will go drinking sometime in the night or day i will start consuming large amounts of water to hydrate myself (taking strong antiacids help as well). I will take a benadryll also if it gets bad even though they make for a loopy night. If you are feeling a reaction go ahead and chug water as much as possible and you will almost instantly start to notice a relief (timed trials with friends). Even through all this i still usually will drink water inbetween/with every drink i have, which yes sucks but hey do what ya gotta do.

Sorry for the long post, just trying to inform the people
