I removed mine on my own just 20minutes ago. Simple and felt nothing. Took so few tries to find the string, but when I did I just pulled gently and it was out in a second. I had developed bad acne, hair loss, extreme weight gain no matter how much I worked out or how health I ate, I was sad, Moody and never felt like myself since having it put in a year ago. I can say now that it is out and trashed... I am excited and ready to get myself back. Good luck to you. :-)

I just took mine out!!! It definitely didn't take me 5 minutes!! Lol for me it was hard getting a grip on the strings but I felt the strings already in my vagina it was just hard getting a grip onto it, after about 20 minutes my thumb n index finger got ahold of it long enough to tug a lil. Its easy as pulling out a tampon when you finally got a good grip on it... I feel so light n relieved. I had a really bad monthly this time around and after i kept having cramps n realized I could feel almost all the length of my string so I researched n researched about 3 days worth. I called my nurse but living in NM on the reservation n trying to book an appointment was impossible!! So my aunty who is a nurse told me if I feel confident enough go ahead n have good grip on the strings, to pull! I cramped a lil while pulling it out, but now I feel better!! I'm so glad to get off it, now my body can get back to its normal self! I hope to lose all this weight (15 pounds) that I gained from it! Hopefully be waaaay less most and have my acne subside! To top it all off, no more heavy periods!! This is my story of removing my mirena iud by myself! I suggest laying on ur back also, it helped me more then sitting on the toilet

It is March 2015 I made the choice after having the iud for 4 half years to get rid of it I had my fiance try to take it out but the string was to short he got some long needle nose pliers reached in and removed it in seconds I didn't even feel it or know it was done until he was shaking it in front of me saying look....

After reading this entire thread I decided to remove mine. Very smooth and easy plus I was having a period. Pull firm yet gentle and if you find resistance please contact a physician to have it removed. Feel much better already. Feel "empty", less bloat. Wasn't aware how much I could "feel" the Mirena. I decided to remove because I bled everyday for 2 years since getting it.

Hi Ladies,

I'm a 50 year old mother to 4 kids 19 to 24 years in age.  I recently had the IUD put in to help with mood swings.  Since Feb. I have gained almost 13 lbs.  I am an avid exerciser and eat healthy, which had not changed.  The weight no matter what I do keeps coming on and with a vengenance!!

I went in just two days ago to have the IUD removed, but then decided there was nothing to loose in keeping it just another month to see if everything levels out, convincing myself the weight gain is in my head, maybe it's all my doing.

But then last night, I woke during the night with pretty heavy cramps, which has been happening more often in the last few weeks I've started getting less severe cramps during the day.  Add to this I went to having 4, 110 calorie protein shakes for two days straight with a healthy dinner and exercise and still put on 3 lbs!!!

The only reason I got the IUD was to help with mood swings, but really, I don't think it made any difference.  The thing that helped here was having my husband learn not to take his abundance of work related stress out on me and for me not to allow stress to effect my mood.

Tonight I was SO frustrated to see the scale go up yet again when it should have gone down, add to that cramping.

I'm visiting my sick family, yes everyone has something much more serious than this, but I know this is likely as important to you ladies as it was to me.  I gave myself an orgasim, which I read helps loosen you up, went to wash my hands, sat on the commode and managed to pull the little plastic 'T' out without any pain, though I did have slight cramping a few minutes later which is now subsiding.

I saved a trip to the doctor and hopefully adding another pound to the scale....and even more HOPEFUL this 13 blinkin' pounds will come off quickly!!

By the way the best diet I've ever tried is the one in which you eat protein and gluten free carbs for two days, all protein for 2 days and a mix of protein, gluten free carbs and healthy fat for 3 days.  You can eat lots of veggies and some fruit on days that are not eating protein only.

Good luck!

Just removed mine today, 3 mins ago. My strings were quite long so not hard to find or get a decent grip on. I straightened the string out using my middle finger then pinched with my thumb and pulled gently... came right out with no discomfort! I had mine inserted last November. Since then I've gotten bacterial vaginosis, 2 yeast infections and 4 uti's. Before that I had no history of any of these things. I've also gained 12 pounds, was so over it!

I asked my fiancé to do that but he's too nervous lol. Did you notice any "mirena crash" afterwards? I've heard a lot of ppl talk about it which scares the hell out of me!

Hahaha. . No, haven't read anything about a "crash" feel just fine. Minor cramps here and there. Was really surprised how easy it was.. I did watch several mirena doctoral videos on insertion and removal before hand.. continplated waiting the 2 weeks to get an appt. But decided to just go for it

I was having a lot of pain. Went o planned parenthood and they said the only way to tell if it was embedded was to tug it out. If it came out easily it was fun. If not they would have to try something else. They Dont know if it will hurt you anymore than you do

I don't know what ER you go to, but the three I've talked to and two I've worked with will NOT remove them.

I just removed mine. Virtually painless. I don't have insurance and wasn't going to pay 200 dollars to have it removed. I've gained so much weight and my mood swings are killing my relationship. If you are not comfortable doing it yourself... don't do it. You don't want to start and not finish. (Takes about 10 seconds after you have a firm grip on the string) but I know how it is trying to get it removed. I tried after a year and they refused to take it out. So.. I did it myself . Good luck. And like I said... do not do it if you are not absolutely comfortable with completely taking it .

4 months after getting the Mirena, I gained 20 lbs, couldn't control my emotions, and suffered severe cramping constantly along with spotting/bleeding every few days.
After a few weeks of wanting it removed, I did it myself.
Sitting down, located the string with my thumb and forefinger. I pulled and with ZERO resistance or pain it came right out.
Took all of 45 seconds.
And I honestly already feel less crampy.
Easier than Id thought it would be.
Good luck.
